Today I look at my childhood collection of Garbage Pail Kids and weird GPK ephemera. Plus I dig into the controversy behind the cards, the Mexico ban on the cards, the TV series, the movie and some of the many knock-offs.
These cards are the one childhood "toy" that I've held onto all these years. They were so much fun to collect, and completely harmless. I covered my school folder in some of the stickers that I had duplicates of, and I never got in any trouble for having it in class.
So much fun! Glad you kept yours as well!
I collected GPK cards as a kid, but sold or traded off all of 'em. One day my brother surprised me with a lot of 300-400 cards he scored off ebay, most of which are series 1,2 and 3.
That’s a good brother! Very nice!!
Garbage Pail Kids were banned at our school back in the day. Then they only became cooler.
Yeah that would do it!
Me and my siblings had the Topps Garbage Pail kids from 1985-86'. We had collected so many we kept them in a binder. Some packs had stickers and that stale piece of gum that you'd nearly break your teeth on. Thank you for sharing these. We loved these cards so much!! 🥰
Decades later I discovered there was a company reproducing the GPK cards along with Whacky Pack cards in 2010 or so. I bought up as many as I could and kept them in a binder. They look nearly the same as they had when originally produced back in the 80's. By any chance would you do a review of those 80's Mad Balls? They were these foam baseball sized toys with grotesque faces, yet they were quite popular. I had sewer face and lock lips. The downside to owning these unfortunately, is that they disintegrate rapidly! However, we loved these growing up! 😊
I loved Mad Balls! They even had a Saturday morning cartoon!!
I am still a dork. I collected them when they came out back in the day. I still collect them now. Keep in mind that I am almost 51 years old.
Yeah, they are fun to collect! Thanks for watching the video!
We used to trade these on the school bus after school in da late 80s, heck they were more popular than hustler magazine, well somewhat, but Man I wish I still had some of the original cards in my grasp, they go for an arm and a leg now. I do remember however they made a quick comeback in the early 2000s I think.
Yes! I totally remember that era. I’m glad I saved these. Fun to look through every now and then!
Omg these gave me nightmares as a kid! But I still collected them lol
They are so much fun! I got some new ones at the last galaxycon!
Born in 1985.
I found these among the older kids things.
LOVE THEM
They are so cool! Thanks for watching
They were the shiznit. great documentary, player. It kicks ass, ninja.
Thanks so much for watching!
GPKs are too young for me, but we LOVED "Wacky Packies" as we called them. My mother even made me a little "leisure suit" out of Wacky Package printed fabric!😂😂😂
Oh wow! That is amazing! Must be adorable!
Even as a kid, I hated these cards.
They were certainly off putting!
Happy Fourth of July!🇺🇸
Garbage Pail Kids are in a class all their own along with Troma Films. Probably how they funded so many bad movies.
The GPK movie feels like the ultimate Troma movie on some level
When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
Good for you! We need people like that in the world too.
So what GPK series did you start collecting?
I'm part of the Wacky Packages sticker era. The fact that I stuck them everywhere instead of saving them is a great regret in my life.
Oof those were a big no thanks for me...found them gross then still find them gross today ^^;
I... just don't understand. Maybe I'm autistic.
They certainly are gross! I totally understand.
15. Seris didn't know that 🔵🔵⚪️⚪️⚪️🚜🚜🚜
Yeah, they really rushed through them!
Great stuff
Thanks for watching!
