Glacier Bay National Park - 2 Days of Whales, Glacier Calving, Hikes & More

- Glacier Bay is a fantastic national park in southern Alaska that is combined with Wrangell-St. Elias and Kulane National Park in Canada to make a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park is difficult to visit and most people only see it via cruise ship. However, we wanted to actually spend some time there so we flew in from Juneau to Glacier Bay National Park and stayed at the lodge. We spent two days hiking around the park and taking a stunning full day boat cruise. From playful sea otters to majestic bald eagles, the park's diverse ecosystem left us in awe of nature's remarkable power and beauty. It was a fantastic trip and let us know what you think in the comments.

Great video! We have to agree, our rangers are the best! 😄Glad you were able to make it to Glacier Bay on land and experience the park at your leisure.
Experiencing those moments of peace and solitude in a national park is always a highlight for me. Just getting to take in the sights, smells, and sounds around you.
I agree, it was so fun to be in these Alaska parks with so few people
Hey Pops can paint! That watercolour was actually very nice
He is a really good painter
Josh and Pops, you just have the most awesome videos. Your manner of presentation, information, images, places * you take us, are all so terrific.
Plus, I love the downtime, and seeing the foods you decide on, some representing the area, you're visiting. Noone does it better, IMO.
👏🏻🎉👏🏻
Thanks so much for the comment. We try to really share the whole experience, food, hikes, hotels, all of it haha
I love the father and son factor.....forever memories ❤❤❤
Heck yes, we love exploring together!
What a great experience! These views were amazing. The whale breaching and the bear were definitely highlights. Pops watercolor was great 👍
It was so crazy to see a whale and bear in the same day haha
Never clicked on a video so fast. This is bucket list! I love seeing the whales and other wildlife on top of the amazing views. Seeing a calving is something that's better experienced in person I would imagine!
Thanks so much for watching it so quickly! I agree, I was blown away by how much wildlife there is to see in these Alaska parks
Glacier Bay looks awesome! You should definitely do a ranking video of your favorites after all the videos of the Alaska Parks come out 😊
It would be so hard to rank but I will try my best! I am going to have a comprehensive video on the parks when it is all said and done haha. Still have 6 more park videos to go
Thank you Pops and Josh. Fun Adventure 😏
No problem!
Just when I thought the awesome video had ended, you gave us the extra hike. That was a cool surprise. I’m glad you got to mark off one thing off your bucket list. And also, Pops technique to carry his bag, is the best technique 😅🙌🏽
haha he needs to invest in a good bag with all the trips we do haha!
@@ThroughMyLens oh Pops 🤣🤣🤣
Amazing place and wonderful views everywhere. Thanks for taking us along. Pops might need a new suitcase.
haha yea I think I will get him one for Christmas haha
Wow! Absolutely incredible. Thank you for this video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I really appreciate the relationship/bond that you have with your dad. I so terribly wish I had that type of relationship with either of my parents, however, my life did not unfold in that direction. May you continue to have a prosperous and peaceful life.
Thank You Love the channel with you and Pops. Very informative!
I wasn't expecting for your dad to be such a good artist!
Yea, he is a great painter
Wonderful video. You really told a comprehensive story!
Wow crazy vibes man str8 up breath taking!👏👏
It was so stunning!
Amazing. Sea otters are adorable. And yes, I would love to kayak there! Wow, that collapse man, what a sight
Thank you for your videos. Your time with Pops is so precious! I appreciate the explanation and information, as I most likely will not visit these places. I could not help but feel sad with the glacier broke, as it is a sign of climate change upon us…
I totally know what you mean with both feelings. Thanks so much for the comment
This brings back wonderful memories. My daughter and I were fortunate enough to be on one of the few small cruises allowed to go in 2021. It was absolutely amazing even with all the Covid restrictions. And we got to see a Glacier Bay porcupine, too! Thanks for sharing. Love all your videos.
My parents took a trip to Glacier Bay a few years ago. They were amazed by the beauty of national park as well as watching the Glacier Calving.. In fact, they decided to go there again with the rest of the family.
Oh wow, that is awesome! So cool they got to see calving too
Spectacular! ❤
It really is!
Glacier Bay is gorgeous thanks for sharing!
Thanks, Josh, for taking us along on another great adventure.
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for always pointing out wheelchair accessibility in your journeys. I'm in a wheelchair and appreciate hearing first-hand if a trail would work or not. I'm impressed with how at least a portion of trails is accessible in nearly all parks in the US (better than in Canada where I am)!
No problem, we try to note that whenever we can
What a beautiful park! Those glacier shots were unreal!
my wife use to say often when i am watching your video that the day would have come someday U and your son would travel in america like them because your POPS looks like me 'thats what she said 😊
although i am not old like him since im 42 years old and my son is teenager ,moreover we are not in america ,but my wish would come true someday i believe .
alot of love for your bond of love father and son .
I hope you can travel with your son as well, it is such a special experience to have
I wish I could travel with my pops like this, unfortunately he was born with only one leg so alot of bonding stuff like this is hard to accomplish. Stay blessed 🙌🏻
you did sound excited. amazing glacier!
It was one of the coolest things I have ever seen!
Thank you so much !! You show us the world through your lens
My pleasure!
Awesome...brings back memories from this summer. Hopefully i can visit it for more than 1 night next time . I agree that it was a good relaxing spot with no TV, Internet, not much to do but soak in the beauty of this NP.
Awesome to see the glacier fall! Great job Josh!
So nice to see this video- I get so motion sick on boats…beautiful! Thank you! 🥰🐾🐾🥾🥾😎
I know what you mean, glad you liked the video!
Another great one!
Thanks!
That was an amazing moment in time you captured with the ice falling into the ocean!
It was one of my life highlights for sure!
This brought back memories of my cruise to glacier bay a couple of years ago. It is absolutely breathtaking. Pictures do not even begin do it justice. I can’t believe you caught the calving in person and it was a big one. I am very jealous but so happy you got it on video. I did not know star fish and were up that far north in cold water. You saw so many different types of wildlife. Once again jealous 😊. Enjoyed this video so much. Thanks for being there and videoing this amazing part of your trip.
I am SO glad you got to experience this special place as well! I agree, the calving was something I never thought I would see
Such a beautiful place. I wish I didn't have such a phobia of bears. Josh - you are brave to go on these trails through the forests in Alaska by yourself. Thank you for sharing its beauty with us.
Wowa! Pop's painting! Natural talent. Love to see more! :)
Thank you so much 😀 I will let him know
@@ThroughMyLens tyvm :)
I was on a Alaska cruise at the end of August. We went into Glacier Bay also. I also saw ice falling at the same glacier. It was great.
So glad you got to see all of this as well!
Thank U....looks great...
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing your footage with us, it was unique and amazing. You're a gifted content creator. xx
Wow, thank you! Appreciate the kind words!
Amazing. We've done 2 cruises but this is now on my bucket list. 😊
It would be pretty epic from a cruise ship I am sure
Enjoy your adventures!
Thanks!
Beautiful. Always enjoy watching your vlogs. Another amazing adventure!
Thanks for watching!
We saw the glacier from our holland cruise, but this looks so cool. I’d love to come back and do a smaller boat like you did.
Yes, a really stunning trip with loads of Adventures - thanks for taking us along - just amazing scenery & wildlife - something I had dreamed of doing one day, but that never materialised - ended up in the Far South instead. Did you have another food option on the cruise? That was very meagre! Really enjoying this trip, cheers you guys.
So timely as I’m researching Alaska land touring. Was inspired by your Utah videos and went this summer. Thumbs up love the videos.
Alaska is something else, it is unlike anywhere I have been. I love it so much haha
Really nice video. Say hello to pops!
Thanks! Will do!
Awesome. Please rank your top 3 Alaskan National Parks
Great detailed video of this National Park Josh, what time of year did you visit this Park?
Nice video
Wahoo a new video!
Thanks for watching!
Hey Josh and Pops! How awesome it is to spend a couple of days in the park. I loved watching your visit here. We saw the park by cruise ship. I feel so bad about what happened to the whale Snow 😢
Yea, it was really sad to read about Snow. I am glad you got to see the park as well.
Wonderful sights. When did you film the video?
Is the tribe that does the show possibly the Tlingit?
Re. Pops painting, I'm such a poor artist, I can't even draw my breath.😀
I just learned, yesterday, that the dragonfly is AKs national insect! I can't believe the campsite was empty! All your videos are making April seem far, far off! Pop, do you paint on all your trips? Your watercolor is gorgeous...
@waanderlust62 typically no but I do do oil painting. Hoping to do some paintings of places we have visited.
I didn't know that either! Yea, we did this in July and it was perfect
Hi Josh, love your videos. What month did you go that you got such great weather?!
We went at the very end of July
Why didn't the boat stop for the whales? Was that a separate tour offering? Even from afar, that is a dream to see whales breaching like that!
Did you bring your bear spray on the flights or pick some up at the lodge?
Beautiful! Pops, I’d pay $10 for your painting. ❤
So glad you liked his painting!
When were you there? Such fantastic weather!
It was the end of July
Great video but can you turn off the cinematic/bokeh effect when talking to the cAmera so we can see the amazing surrounds?
This is an amazing experience! What was the date of this visit?
It was the end of July
@@ThroughMyLens you have some of the best videos. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Nice video and first to commet
Thanks for the comment!
What time of year did you go?
It was the end of July
@@ThroughMyLens thank you my friend and I are planning Alaska in July or August. What a wonderful video, you and your dad are such great inspiration
Just about everyone I've talked to has a pretty low opinion of bear spray so the goal is to give bears plenty of warning and FORGET selfies.
Disagree, Pops painting was very good👀d!
Can you include the date of your visit? Or put it in the comments.
Yea, will do, it was in late July
The glacier has been retreating for 250 years...long before large scale industrialization and burning of fossil fuels.
