You can support the US constitution, or you can support Donald Trump. You can't do both.
Luttig is also not a Johnny-come-lately Never Trumper who is distancing themselves over the possibility he'll lose in November. He's been against Trump for years. I highly doubt he voted for Trump in 2020, so the "Never voted for a Democrat" may not be entirely true. He may just not have said who he voted for in 2020. Maybe he didn't vote or he wrote someone in.
Luttig and I probably disagree on much, but we can agree that the USA is worth preserving for future generations. With Trump as a dictator, the USA will be more like Russia.

Yet, have been fighting labor unions that have been fighting for a living wage, for decades that just want a living wage for the average citizen. He'll be dismissed by MAGAts, but this endorsement will be the influencing factor for a good number of true conservative Republicans.

Luttig is voting against his minor values (small government, oppression of workers or whatever) to support his larger values (Democracy, Constitution, Law). Luttig's stand against Trump will cost him more friends than my stand against Trump. I'd call him a hero. Most of my friends support my work against Trump. Therefore, although Luttig and I both work against Trump, Luttig is more of a hero than I.

After allowing decades of oppression of the working class, unions, the poor, minorities, and LBGTQ+, a line has finally been crossed. While the rich became wealthy, the middle class stagnated. While people are homeless, and kids are starving in the richest country in the world. Why is that? When is the last time conservatism has actually accomplished a thing for the betterment of our society as a whole? If you want to call Luddig a hero, that is your right. But, you might as well call every republican that decides to just do the right thing a hero, too. The term "hero" is so overused anymore that its meaning has been diminished. Very proud of Judge Luttig. He is a Rule of Law and Constitution judge. And he's from my hometown of Tyler, Texas. You may not agree with his other political views, but he has consistently denounced Trump, the MAGA movement, January 6, and far right policies.

I believe that many real Republicans will vote for Harris/Walz. Unfortunately, too many aren't publicly speaking out.
Can't blame them. Many cannot afford security and probably do not want their family to become a target.

This is huge. And this is what we need to help convince our friends and family who are on the fence or who feel resistant to voting for a Democratic ticket. Judge Luttig is a solid and esteemed legal scholar, and his letter is excellent. It needs to go into our persuasion toolkit along with Adam Kinzinger's excellent speech.
