FAILED FUEL INJECTED FIRST START? - I Don't Technology Well.... 1955 Chevy Nomad Gasser

- Why is everything so hard?
Today we attempt to start our 1955 Chevy Nomad. It's a pretty run of the mill small block Chevy that I've had in the car for a while. What's new is the sheet metal tunnel ram and dual Holley Snipers! We go through the entire install and wiring plus a little fuel system re-do......
Guess what? I go to turn the key and have problems..... a real shocker I know. Don't worry, in the end we will prevail! Should be a pretty slick little hotrod when it's all done.

DD Speed Shop, "We do it nice, cause we do it twice" lol
😂😂😂
You mean; We do it nice bc We do it thrice! 😁👍
"We do it right... cus we do it twice.." twas on my business card. Lol. (Beaver up Builders)
Fab Rats uses this one a lot. 😂
Words cannot describe how much I love this Nomad. Keep it forever.
Good call on hearing protection Dan. Ive worked in shops all my life, drag racing, Harleys, and heavy metal music. Yeah, ive lost 90% of my hearing in my right ear and 40% in my left. On a positive note, I cant hear my wife bitching when we drive in the car. That's a win for me.
I think the water temp has to get over 160 for the Snipers to get into closed loop mode. So no thermostat may be an issue.
Yeah you are correct
Real world mistakes and frustrations. Love it. Work ethic and problem solving ability cures all.
It's amazing the attention to detail some viewers pay...like that fuel pump issue. I'm just here for interior fires and rods hanging out the side of the block 😂
It's Sunday!! Worked on truck til 1am. Stumbled in. Cleaned up. Fell out. Dog wakes me up at dawn. Sitting in the garage bout to motivate. Then you drop a video.... Now I get another 35 minutes to sit on my butt and drink coffee. Thanks. 😂😂✌️🇺🇸
Haha don't work to hard!
All cars worth starting are worth starting at 1AM!! Never fails
Dan, You are my favorite CZcamsr…I watch a few others (cars) and I want to tell you that You are my Fav. I am 63 and I don’t have your energy anymore…So I like to catch each new episode and I have watched for about 2 years. You are real, you are self deprecating (big word there) and you are fearless. I hope you make VGG kind of money someday. Keep up the great content. I have recommended you to many of my car friends. Thanks for your show.
Anyone roasting you must have never made a mistake. You could easily have fixed it quietly and we would have never known. I for one appreciate the realness. Keep doing you. I enjoy all the content.
I look forward to your videos, you are a natural on camera. Perfect blend of humour and self deprecation. Wish nothing but the best for you and Dani.
Hey thanks Bobby!
Dan, that car sounds AWESOME!! I can’t wait for you to put it on the road because I think it is going to be killer. Great job and perseverance with eliminating problems. You inspire me to do better. Keep’em coming!
Sweet! No pain no gain. She’s alive!
Hey Dan, I love 💕 watching you casually stand there looking like your putting gas ⛽ in the radiator, so funny 🤣. I laugh every time because of the attitude behind it, I laugh so hard with your laid back style. Keep it fun and you'll never be disappointed!!!
Thanks dude can't take it to serious haha
Been down the TBI road. With time and therapy I hope to recover. Carbs and OEM EFI rule.
I agree 100%!! Bought a classic with sniper and it worked great till it didn't. If you're on the highway and it quits, good luck with the holley techs. About 20 gazzillion LS engines on the road. Gm did the homework. Carbs are simple, and fuel pumps easy to find. All the best Dan and Dani.
T4 and lucas!? Man giving that thing all the dinosaurs to survive!
Feel your struggle late at night, we’ve all been there at some point. Been working away hard all day, wanting to see some tangible results and knowing its the smart thing to stop and start afresh next day. But you keep going, things keep goin wrong as frankly you’re too tired. But hell you will see it run. Great job for seeing this one through!
Thanks!
Cool, can't wait to see the Nomad in Atlanta on the Power Tour!
keep calm and carry on ..... good job!
So, what your saying is, they need to be better with their info. Good job Dan, I've enjoyed the series. I have seen this one and many others all the way thru. You've come a long ways on CZcams, since I started watching. Thanks for your time and the laughs. Jack.
Got my ‘55 Pontiac fired up and running yesterday after it sitting for over a year.
Was out in the garage until 12:300 just fiddling with it, put a new tach in thought I’d do it right with proper connectors , heat shrink etc. then it didn’t work. Rip it all apart twist some wires together and it works🤦♂️ I’m doomed to do things the wrong way lol
I completely understand your hesitation to have all the wiring buttoned up and tucked away neatly.
Good episode , love the Nomad thanks for sharing with the rest of us.
Good thing Uncle Tony has a carburetor ready for you!
Glad you read the comments to find out the fuel lines were wrong before you tried to run it.
Obviously one of the best channels on CZcams
As Mr. Scott once said when referencing elaborate technology, "The more they overtake the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain!" Good luck buddy!! 😎
Personally I blame squirrels..... and Dan again
Great how-to!
How to learn from Dan’s mistakes😂
All jokes aside, im impressed with all the work you have done on the Nomad from day one. Lets hope it holds up so you can enjoy the fruits of your labour.
Couldnt have done it without MUR!
This is the PERFECT video to start my week. The only thing missing was setting something on fire. I was laughing for the first 10 minutes. "every light is out for a block. It is clearly the right time to crank this". Nice work overcoming all the obstacles and getting her brought to life. Sounds good!
Dan,
You should display IAC counts on your screen. For setting idle, you need to turn your screws to where you have anywhere from 6-9 IAC counts. You also need to show throttle position as well. When you make an idle adjustment, it will change the throttle position percentage by 1 or 2%. You will then need to shut the engine off, then restart to reset the TPS back to 0%. Then watch to keep your IAC counts between 6-9.
Also, you need to set timing. On my sniper you have to enter a screen that allows you to select your timing to 15 degrees for idle. Then you go under the hood and adjust your distributor until you read 15 degrees with your timing light. It will be in your Sniper instructions. This will sync your distributor with your Sniper so that your engine will see the amount of timing that the Sniper is sending to the distributor.
Dude, even with the struggles i say good job man! This is turning into a pretty badass machine.
Wiring on these Sniper's is very sensitive as well, so when you tidy it up route the wires away from anything that will produce any EMF. They're easy peasy when you figure them out. Sounds good man!
You standing there with that jerry can in the radiator is my absolute favorite image! You just have a this is totally normal vibe about you and its awesome! 😂
Just remember Dan, constant pounding will flatten anything! Peace my brother
Dan drill a hole in the handle to your can you can put a screw in it when not in use.
Hey Danny I enjoy your content is always appreciated, right of slightly incorrect. Doesn’t matter cause I really enjoy all the vehicles you have and work on. Thanks for sharing everything you do! Appreciate you!
Tha ks for watchin my friend
I know you lost some hair trying to figure this one out 😀 it sounds really awesome and hopefully it learns as you drive it. I'm looking forward to see the rear end back in it and you on the road. Keep up the great work dude 👍✌️🇺🇲
Hey Dan
Nice job figuring all of that out.
Take care 🙂
Good to see you Dan, Sweet Ride. Likely my favorite out of the Fleet. From South Central Pennsylvania, I’ll catch you on the next one. Keep it Safe Out There Sir
I remember the first efi cars and I got hosed not 6 psi .like expected circa 1986, thanks for sharing I so want that setup on my T bucket, you gave me an Idea ,, ! ,Awesome!!!!
I want you to do a grumpy Jenkins-style Camaro with his secret hood scoop, I love Hood scoops like you !
I'm sure it'll be fine..I hope..if not..whatever...lol...love it. Dan's world.
Been watching you since a couple thou, subs,, still here✌️
Look out hot rod power tour , DD speed shop is coming in hot !!! . Cheers 🇨🇦
Enjoy watching you Dan with my family. I try to mute it when you use the coarse language. Our children are the next generation mechanics and fabricators !! If we don't keep them interested in something good they will find something else! You all take care of yourself and God bless you and yours !!!!! Eddy
Diesel oil for flat tappets works great
I like when he said it takes out the ( Dan) Factor
It's Alive!! Makes me want to put a Holley EFI system on my hot rod. Maybe even go with a wilder cam since the EFI seems to tame the beast down a little. Good job! Can't wait to see it on the road.
I hope you use submersible fuel line in the gas tank. If not, those lines will deteriorate over time. I enjoy your vids. Keep doin what u do. It's great entertainment.
Nice work Dan. I know that has to feel pretty good after all of the hard work and the long road you've already been down with that car. Have fun on Power Tour!
Sounds awesome.. can’t wait to see it self learning by you driving it. I have a 383 with a Tunnelram and 2 Holley 600’s on my 57 Chevy Gasser. I’ve made it work on the street but have always wanted to go to fuel injection. Watching to see how you like the drive-ability. Let the rich guys (lol), do the testing before I blow up the credit card!!! Keep up the great work …I really enjoy your videos.
Man I was waiting on the rich guys too.... visa had to step up on this one haha
Damn that thing sounds incredible
Holley sniper: what I did for the using a battery charger deal was put a connector about six inches off the battery on the ground and positive that way I could quick disconnect when needing to use a charger rather than taking the leads completely off the battery
Things got so much chop it shuts off. Bad ass! 😂
sounds like a nice old "newish" hotrod, sounds sweet
Well, it could'a been worse Dan. You could have installed the rear end and finished the drivetrain and then found your mistake. See, don't you feel better now? Thanks for your videos that make me feel that I'm not the only one who makes mistakes. We'll see you next time.
Hell yes,nice work Dan!
I have had Tinnitus since my rock band days. Yep, everyday ringing.
I love how every time you start a project a wrench hits the floor reminds me of home lol
Dan it sounds Awesome, I love it.
Lucas is no joke I have a van G20 with tired barring hard starting after work up put Lucas in it never had a slow crack since amazing stuff
Oh she sounds real good. Be rippin on it in no time
Dan, I've installed several of these things for folks and it's been my experience that getting them installed and started is the easy part. Keeping them from sitting on the side of the road is the challenge. The Sniper is very susceptible to RFI and you need to make sure you use only the highest quality ignition wires. Do your very best to isolate all the wires too and from the throttle bodies. Make sure your O2 sensor bungs are absolutely air-tight. And even plan on wrapping the critical system wires with Faraday tape. Keeping the IAC happy and in range is critical. Great job so far.
I have learned as well as you these same things but I have found ferrite clips work better than the tape. Hope it helps
@@jeremyderby7051 Thank you for that tip. I did not know they would work in this application. Certainly cleaner than bulky Faraday tape and Amazon has 'em cheap
It's the struggle that makes things more valuable, the money spent is a small part of the overall achievement but it's the problems you correct and overcome that stick in the mind when people ask what you have into it.
It’s great to have someone like Dan get all of your mistakes out of the way before you do it to your own car. 🤣🤣🤣 keep up the good workDan, she looks great.
Way to go. Hard work paid off. Sounds awesome.
I got to say Dan good job your doing your best and not half asking it . I'm sure as you drive the car and put a few miles on it she will be fine I think it tunes itself as you drive and once you get on and off the gas a few times you will see a difference way to go buddy. Your friend from Louisiana Rick 427
Well ..... I'm old school, soooo carbs for me.
A carburetor will get you home...
@@glennnickerson8438 Yep ... like to have stuff I can FIX on the road.
The points output wire is probably so the ignition gets a full 12 bolts when starting. Points only use about 9.3 volts to run but needs a full 12 volts to the coil while starting.
Sounds great! I had the same problem with the first sniper efi I installed on a friend’s 72 nova. Turned out to be the switched voltage wasn’t good
Nice success in the figuring!
Hey Dan I have installed several of the snipers and I would like to make a couple suggestions pull all the wires out of the plugs that you are not using because the will act like antennas and pick up emf and rfi signals and buy some ferrite clips and put them on all your wires on the sniper. Enjoy your videos just passing on through my struggles
Sounds good 😅can’t wait to see how it runs down the road
Have to admit I was laughing when one thing after another kept going wrong. I was happy you figured it out. Looking forward to seeing you behind the wheel, and your locks of hair blowing in the wind (lol) and a big smile on your face!
Love the tinkle of tools and bolts making their way to the concrete on startup!
Hey, you are doing great Dan. I have learned so much from you and never miss an episode. Be cool and keep at it !
Glad you found it. Same as fitech issue I had
I'm not madd at all. I love the fact you saved another one. When you sell it, you will do well.
Dan, gas in the eyes hurt!!! I got M.E.K. in my eyes at work once, I thought I'd never see again. (Methyl ethyl ketone. Once used as an industrial degreaser).
Sorry Dan, but I'm glad somebody caught your mis-connection of the fuel pump connections. That would have been a pain to figure out??
Dan, this sounds GRRRREAT!!!!!!
on the bright side since the axle hasnt arrived yet you didnt need to drop that to get at the fuel tank again
sounds great, cant wait for the videos of you tearing up the asphalt up all around town
Glass half full
@@DDSpeedShop only half spilled 👉👉
The "So Mad, Nomad" really sounds awesome!! Can't wait for a trip around the block!! Cheers!! 🤓
Good job Dan
Love the sound of that bad boy! Pretty sure once you've got the kinks worked out, you're gonna love this thing!
Wicked Nomad!
I like the statement you hope it's trouble free, it's like a good woman, never trouble free. I like the late night scrambles trying to make headway and bam, issues, been there myself, you forged ahead and can see some light at the end of the tunnel. The reward will be in how she drives, exciting times, hope the rear end comes together soon.
Sounds really nice!
I like my edelbrock carb even more now !! LOL!!
Looks like you are getting figured out. Lean out the idle fueling, you can run around 14-15 to 1 at idle.
I love Nomads, and yours is a great one, what I like most is all the metal is new, great foundation!
Hey Dan glad you got it figured out n runs one step closer to a driver you’ve got a goal power tour keep hammering away n keep hot rodding
Sounds like it's heading in the right direction, and at least you didn't have to worry about it dropping into gear and blasting out of the garage.
It sounds great. Love it
that sounds amazing! thanks for the info
Good work.Thank you
I watched all of the ads, as I always do, I figured you need all the support you can get for this project! 😅
It sounds great, you're almost there! Thanks for sharing! 😁👍
Haha thanks! Every penny counts
Keep up the great work. Nice job on getting the system hook up and running.
Good catch!
Wow not so madd now
It screams
Love all the hard work
Glad to see the new progress. Hang in there .
Great job on getting her fired up Dan, sounds great and looks badass.
Awesome Dan, that thing sounds freaking awesome. Well done 👍😎✌️
I thought the same thing about the fuel lines but figured nah this guy knows what he's doing, I mean he's a big star on CZcams right? Lol. Just messing with you. But love the "no I didn't do that, watched the video and yep I did that". This is why I watch you. The honesty and humbleness is what I love. We all make mistakes.
The trick is to not over think it haha
And just like that , we lost the radiator cap AGAIN !!! LOL
