Because opening the refrigerator turns on the light bulb. You cannot turn on your crockpot or hot plate on shabbat

    • @randallhank
      @randallhank Před 3 měsíci

yes, but using those other appliances, specifically a crockpot looks like cooking every bit as much as an oven. There’s an inconsistency here as well in that you are taking a very stringent about what “looks like cooking” at the same time ignoring that opening and shutting a refrigerator is a clear violation because it works the same way oven does in terms of reacting to temperature when you open the door. I find it pretty funny that you are concerned about the lightbulb, but not about the refrigerator turning on and off every time you open the door the reason for this is that many of your chumrot regarding heating food developed over time and yet no one wants to give up refrigeration.

I think we should allow the Holy Spirit to guide us. If you examine Exodus 35, you'll notice it's all about the Tabernacle. The preparation for the construction of the tabernacle began with a reminder that the Sabbath rest must be observed while building the Tabernacle. The context was simply not to light fires in relation to the upcoming work on the Tabernacle. The Israelites were excited and those who were melting gold, brass etc. were being told not to kindle fires on the Sabbath, but rather to rest.
This law seems to be a temporary one because it was never said to be throughout their generations as elsewhere, where the Sabbath law is given or repeated; it was limited to the construction of the Tabernacle.
Constructing the tabernacle was going to be an enormous project. It would require a tremendous amount of work. There would be sewing, embroidery, carpentry and especially metal work, or blacksmithing. When you read the instructions given to Israel, you'll notice that a lot of gold, silver and bronze was going to have to be melted down and fashioned into various utensils and structures. The rest of chapter 35 is an account of the people who contributed precious metals, gems, hides, cloth, oil, incense and all the other necessary materials for the project (Exodus 35:22).
The statement about lighting fires on the Sabbath did not add to the basic principles of Sabbath observance. It was a reminder of the command to rest from our work on the seventh day in a context specifically related to doing the hard work of building the stuff for the tabernacle.
The kindling of fire in early times involved considerable labour. It was ordinarily affected by rubbing two sticks together.
I don’t think the verse add a regulation stating that people in cold countries are not allowed to heat their homes in the winter or cook and warm up food to eat or light a lamp in the dark on the Sabbath? Are people without electricity going to sit in the dark on the Sabbath, or will they light a lamp or candle? This sounds very extreme, especially if kids are in the house.
I would not kindle a fire on the Sabbath to burn garbage because this is considered work. The focus is not the fire itself, the focus is on work.
If I prepare food from Friday 4:00 pm and keep it until 1:00 pm Saturday for lunch, bacteria will start to form in that food, making it unpalatable to eat, so it must be warmed to kill all that bacteria. Not everyone can afford to use electric stove. Gas stoves are used by 95% of the people in my country. The electricity bills would bankrupt us.
I understand the principle to prepare the food from Friday evening because it would be too much work on the Sabbath. However, warming the food, having cooked it 20 hours before, is a necessity, not work. Just like taking a shower or giving the child a bath on the Sabbath is a necessity. It is not work.
If it was a general command not to kindle fire on the Sabbath, I think it should be viewed as a mere temporary institution, to continue only during the time when the people were miraculously provided for in the wilderness.
It can hardly be thought that this is to be taken in the strictest sense, as an entire prohibition of kindling a fire and the use of it on that day, which is so absolutely useful, and needful in various cases, and where acts of mercy and necessity require it; and on the account of infants and aged persons, who could not manage without it; and in cases of sickness, and various disorders which necessarily require it; and even for the preparation of food, which must be had on that day as on others. God does not provide manna today. The manna was a temporary thing.
Warming the food does not require much effort. You are not collecting sticks to make a fire. You're simply lighting a match or using a lighter. It takes more effort to dish out food for 20 people, but does this take time away from God? When reading the context of Exodus 35, Jesus was thinking about the work involved, not the flame itself.

My oven does not however the light doesn’t turn on when I open the door. I’ve tried putting it on a high heat and putting food in just before shabbos then turning it off but by the time I get home from shul and start the meal (often 2 hours after shkia) the oven is no longer warm. My hot plate doesn’t always have room for all of the food so I was wondering if I could keep the oven at 180 and just not turn it off.

Turning on a light bulb is a physical process.
So how does turning on a light equals to kindle a fire?

what about the Decalogue God gave to Moses on Moriah Mountain? What about its 2nd commandment? "Do not make yourself other Gods and do not worship them" . Anything you put before God is equal to worshipping other gods. So you put traditions and man-made laws before the only living God and you worship them? Yes, this is what you do guys! Did you think about the electricity provider that work on the Sabbath? And di you eventually think that your household is still working electrically by being connected to electrical network even on Sabbath. Then you brake the Moses law because the 4th commandment order NOT to work on Sabbath neither you or anyone belonging to your household. Then don't you know that God made Sabbath for Man and the man for Sabbath! Were is worshiping God in all this? I can only see a tumults of man made traditions that you guys worship which is a sin according to Moses law because you have made your "gods" (traditions) and you are much more concerned about your own-made "gods" (traditions) than really serving God, really being with God and really resting in God on Sabbath.
Anyway, God still wants you to reunion with Him and to rejoice for you - only if you would drop off your own made gods and turn to the real and only living God! May God bless you guys!

I find it interesting that so many experts leave their comments about what is and is not. GOD made the sabbath for man and not Man for the sabbath. So many read and yet do not understand. Others read with understanding, and do not take everything at face value. Not everyone will understand the word of GOD, because they are self absorbed and closeminded. So many strict rules out of fear without true understanding. See when you have such a dogmatic narrowminded view and understanding, you fail to see the larger picture and grasp the full understanding of what is being conveyed. With all the strict ceremony and dog and pony show, you fail to grasp the true meaning. GOD made the sabbath for man. The sabbath is supposed to be a day of fun and spending time with GOD while taking a rest from all the stresses from the other six days, not create stress in preparation or on the day of. Remember the sabbath day and keep it holly. How can you keep it holly if you are walking on egg shells worrying about what to do and not to do? Instead you are not resting in your mind or keeping the sabbath holy. You have taken what the Lord said as keeping the sabbath holly, and made it about yourself, and you most certainly are not resting. Also if some are so set on adhering to strict rules of the old testament, then you must obey all the laws from the old testament especially the book of Leviticus. You can not pick and choose what laws you want to fallow. If you do not then you are a hypocrite.

For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders. [4] And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables. [5] Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands? [6] He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. [7] Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. [8] For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. [9] And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
📯 Does anyone see just how they are taking these traditions so far out of context? No fire, meant no burning of wood for cooking, you would have been stoned, for gathering fire wood,. Not picking up a stick, lol. This video is for educational reasons, ya I get it, teaching you to observe traditions of men, instead of keeping the Torah. Shallom Shallom, is in Yeshua Hamashiac.
