What the video didn't emphasise enough, here are my experiences with my mudi:
    - If you have mice and rats around your house forget about cats and get a mudi. Problem will be solved in no time. (Once she even caught a mouse in the city while I was walking her. I just felt a sudden jerk on the leash, I looked down and there she was proudly holding a rodent in her mouth... side note: rabbits and poultry might also be on her menu 😬)
    - Their fur is amazing. Even if she's covered in mud from head to toe by the time we get home her fur is clean. As the mud dries it simply falls off.
    - They learn fast. Teaching mine 'stay' took maybe 10 minutes. I'm not kidding. And while certain tasks take longer for her to learn, she learns everything extremely fast. My second dog felt really really dumb after my mudi (although probably just has average learning skills).
    - Their herding instinct is remarkable. Mine was 3.5 months old when she was circling around us restlessly until she put as all in a "flock" at a picnic with friends. Same with a class of preschoolers later. (Oh, mine is super friendly with kids.)
    - Once you get them physically and mentally tired, they are super calm. I was afraid of my neighbors for bringing home a stereotypically very barky breed. My next door neighbor didn't even notice that I had a dog for 2 months... until we met in the street.
    - I know this is an individual case and I was super lucky but mine was housetrained from the minute I took her home. She simply didn't want to pee or poop indoors. Also she didn't damage anything at all (okay, one slipper, a cable and an underwear that she chewed on in 11 years. If you have dogs you know that's nothing.)
She's eleven, getting noticeably older, less vigorous but she's still healthy in a good condition. If I ever adopt a dog again it will surely be another mudi (no offence to my other one. :D).

Mine even jumped into a tree to get a cat, it's there where I found out how high they can jump, so even cats are not safe, if you look at the video, you can see how big their teeth are. I hope your dog will be alive for many years to come, because they are very special. I get clamped all the time, from people asking what bread he is, and that he looks funny, I think they refer to the hairs on the tip ears :)

Since 2021 I have a male Mudi, here are other facts about Mudi, they have actual feet (the bone structure is kinda strange), so if you have shortened their nails, they can pop up right next to you without even noticing. They can jump amazingly well. In the past I had GSDs, they couldn't do the same as the Mudi. And if you live in the Western part of the world, you have always attention, because people don't know the breed. So he is a good ambassador for the breed, and he loves the attention. Of course.

I just got a male Mudi puppy back in December and as of now he’s jumping up on my bed and clearing it unlike my blue heeler/Pyrenees that sometimes has trouble and she’s fully grown about the size of a blue heeler lol the Mudi’s are impressive and so loyal. Can’t wait to start training him for competitions.

@@treytilley333 you are blessed with your puppy, they are also very smart, if I train something new, out of the blue, 2 times giving directions, and they get it. And believe it or not, but mine can actually smile, which in some cases can be very fun. Leach training, we did it in 3 or 4 days together with other exercises. Nowadays, he doesn't wear a leach, only on spots where he can. I can talk for hours about Jack, because that is his name.

Gunther my name is Daemon. I am interested in possibly getting a Mudi. The only thing I am concerned about is their reported tendency to bark a lot and very shrill. How do you find with your Mudi? I don’t want my neighbour to hate me.

@@daemonrowanchilde7221 my mudi and many other mudis I know are really good dogs inside where they don't bark. But outside or when they do some fun activity they bark a lot 😀. You also have to prepare your dog not to have a separation anxiety. And mudis can easily have it because they wanna be with their human as much as possible.

We got our Mudi 4 weeks ago from Hungary and brought her to Berlin she is amazing: We are struggling a bit with her biting (she is 14 weeks old). She was only allowed out a few days ago, and we are searching for a playmate. She is so clever and beautiful.

lovely video! I have a breed very similar in character and looks to mudi, which is a Croatian sheepdog. only thing is, the accepted color is only black with oe without a small white spot on the chest. the seems to originate from the same region, as Croatia is part of a Pannonian lowlands. My dog is very sensitive to movement, rather nippy, stays close to me all the time and loves obedience (it calms her energy down ). I really love mudis and the way you described them

I think I adopted one, she's exactly like the ones in this video but I have no papers or breed information, what I can say is that is pretty intelligent, but fearless? Nope she doesn't like to take walks, prefers to be in home, took her to a walk and it just takes a little time when she starts to take me back home, even one day she got scared by a larger dog and ran away, tried to catch her but she is pretty fast, when I returned home, she was waiting right in the door

  • @krishnajuliaellis7586

Anyone able to compare their drive to a Malinois for me? lower drive or higher drive?

    • @kamcatkat1849
      @kamcatkat1849 Před rokem +3

I would say both of the breeds have similar drive but I think mudis are more sensitive. So you must be aware of your own emotions because they can feel them easily and start being nervous or some of them even scared. But their extraordinary empathy is one of the things I love about them so much 😊
