How about making sure these planes have all their bolts properly installed
As long as the pilots are qualified and plane was put together correctly..
That’s Boeing’s job. Not Southwest
@@RetiredVet2020No it’s the airlines that make the airplanes!
Sarcasm
Southwest does not fly the 737-900 MAX . The-800 MAX does not have that extra exit door
How about having pre installed emergency parachutes for all passengers, including the pilots.
I've never understood the headrest.... it makes you have a forward head position that totally isn't normal
I flew from LAX to Hong Kong. Long @$$ flight. I got stuck in the way back with a seat like you describe. The seat wouldn’t go back. My neck was messed up for weeks! It was so miserable. I don’t understand this headrest…
I’ve never understood the position of the headrest. I agree that it puts your head forward, which is not comfortable.
I think they are supposed to be a good substitute for a "pillow" lol.
It probably is ergonomic.
Same in cars
I fly about 7-8 times a year and I hate it. It's not even the leg room which is what everyone focuses on, it's the seat width. I'm not even overweight and even when sitting next to another similar sized person you're squeezed in elbow to elbow with them.
Yes, my shoulders are wider than the space that I'm allowed, I can get the seat belt clipped with plenty to spare, but my shoulders protrude over the arm rests no matter what I do. Shy of breaking my clavicles, I'm not sure what I'd be able to do to fit.
You should be wedged into that seat only 2 weeks after having your leg rebuilt… I swear to god, I’d refuse to sit in anything but 1st class after surgery ever again. (I had a very rare type of bone tumor and had to fly 830 miles away to get my femur rebuilt by people who’d seen these bone tumors before. My leg was double its normal size with over 130 staples in it when I flew home. I’m told I sobbed in pain the entire flight.)
Planes back in the 70s and 80s were much better!
@@P1995. but travelling those days was a luxury. today anyone get get a budget ticket and visit family or take a vacation when they want. a cross atlantic ticket in those days would cost over 5,000 bucks in todays money. today I can get round trip from Europe to NYC for under 500 dollars
@@evilcomesfromwakanda-mp9vlyeah, as much as flying sucks, just glad I can afford to go on trips.
I remember in the 80s where the seats had as much padding as a sofa.
Oh my Goodness yeah those were the days. If you look back at the old movies.. airplane scenes you see how thick they were.
TBF, back in the 80's, with inflation adjusted. A flight from NY to London is $550 or equivalent to 5k today. So its like first class.
Also got a nice meal .
It was also significantly more expensive to fly back then...
People smoking cigs drinking lol
I miss the days when flying was fun. I don't like flying anymore...
Flying was fun before the airlines learned that they can make more money by providing poor service and generally treating their customers like garbage.
that's because everyone can afford it now. Try flying business class, you pay a bit more but you avoid being crowded
@@evilcomesfromwakanda-mp9vl Oh yes only if you pay more.
It hasn’t been fun since 9/11. The terrorist ruined it. People used to be able to take you to the gate and visit with you until you boarded, then watch you take off. Now you are already exhausted and grouchy before you even get on the plane. I’m flying business class next flight. Young people aim to be able to afford it when you are 40+. Your joints will thank you.
The "golden age of airlines" was a time when, adjusted for inflation, _all_ seats started at what we pay for business class now. That's why it seemed so glamorous back then.
Those seats look narrower, harder, & the trays look smaller. Those headrests look uncomfortable too.
Especially if you happen to be shorter or taller than average.
Why would the seats be narrower? Unless the airline can fit an extra seat in by shrinking existing seats, they have no reason to do so. The new seats have a layout of 6-across, just like the old layout.
@@holycrapchris I think by narrower they mean thinner.
@@TheUtuber999narrow doesn't Mean thinner😂😂😂...
@@holycrapchris Weight savings = fuel savings = $$
Yo Southwest. All those "extras?" What travelers REALLY want is leg and seat room. Southwest thinks they're reassuring people when they say seat width and legroom are the same. As far as I'm concerned, that means you haven't made any improvements.
You could put me in a coffin or an overhead bin as long as I'm promised clean, fresh air. So sick of bo, bad breath, and gas on flights. People are disgusting 🤮
But SW is a discount airline. Taking out one row of seats adds a few inches to all the other rows but will certainly increase your ticket price. If one wants more legroom, then there are airlines and ticket classes which cost a lot more you can go to. It's not the target audience they're going after.
Bingo
@MrCho14 Most people would pay a bit more for more room.
If they removed 6 seats (3 on each side of the aisle) and divide the "lost fare" on each trip by the number of remaining seats, the added cost per ticket isn't much.
For example: take out 6 seats and lose $300 on each on one flight. ($300 x 6 = $1,800
Let's say, there are 100 other seats remaining (each with a little more leg room), the $1,800 loss of the 6 removed seats divided by 100 remaining seats would be an additional $18 per seat.
And most SW planes have more than 100 seats so it'd be even less.
@@bipolarcollie People are very price sensitive at the low end of any customer base which is what SW targets. An extra $15 or $20 could mean they jump to another airline without question.
Most important, you gain pretty much no legroom by removing one row of seats when you spread that across the entire plane. I've sat there and done the math. It's around an inch.
For someone like me with really long legs, every inch counts so that my knees are pushing against the seat in front of me, but for most it would barely be noticed and they'd be wanting another row removed.
Of course, I've only taken SW once in the past 20+ years since I started getting a real income due to many factors (picking seat, longer distances with no layovers) and now always pay for an exit row. SW is doing just fine without customers like me which proves my point that they don't need to make a change.
I flew Frontier this past weekend. The seats were almost bare metal. I had lower back pain the entire time.
You get what you pay for🤷♂️
I had to take a last minute flight from IAD to DTW. Ended up on Frontier... it might as well have been a plastic patio chair. Fortunately, it was a short flight. Definitely not budget.
Stop getting rid of the seat comfort because it honestly is getting better to drive now
Depends - DC to Phoenix is how many days drive?
Hell no
They didn't. The videos showed 2d renderings to illustrate cabin design.
You can't really drive from usa to Europe unless you want to be on boat many days.
I’ve driven from the Carolinas to California four times over the last two years in my car (I’m a trucker by profession). The airlines want to treat customers like garbage? I’ll pass. I’ve got friends along the route…gives me a good reason to stop.
At this point, just stay home with your loved ones and travel around your home state because you never realize hidden gems exist.
I agree. Stop paying these price gougers and drive to your destination if possible. They know they have by the you know what, so they just don't care about the cattle anymore. I haven't flown in 3 years, i cant remember the last time before that that i didn't fly at least 3 times in a year. I drive and stop to see sights i never knew i was missing, i enjoy having a nice meal in a town or city i would usually have flown over. My travel stress has greatly diminished also, i can plan around city rush hours by stopping to eat or to visit a nice tourist spot. And with so many ways to get discounts at hotels and motels i don't mind spending my baggage fee money on a room and a very nice dinner. The last time I flew was over 35 years ago when I was just out of college. I'm a big and tall woman and I had an aisle seat. I tried desperately to shift as much of myself as possible away from the man next to me in the center seat to the point of practically leaning into the aisle. And although I apologized profusely to him, he continued to loudly make known to everyone his disgust and anger at having to sit next to me, as though I was purposely trying to take up his space. Finally, he got up and went to speak to one of the flight attendants. I was mortified and in tears at the thought that they might ask me to leave the plane; I just didn't know what to expect. But the attendant very kindly asked me to follow her and she led me to a full row of empty seats on the other side of the plane. I got the entire row to myself for the whole flight. I was very grateful to her for her sensitivity and kindness, but I knew I would never ever fly again.
I hate that some jerk made you feel like you shouldn’t fly. You have just as much right to be there and occupy space as he does. Frankly they should have led him away

I flew Southwest yesterday. The seats are hard, narrow and do not lean back at all. I am a thin built female and was not comfortable, anyone with any bulk will have a difficult time in these seat and would be in contact with their neighbor. Not good!

And there isn’t a big ole hole in the side so not just a Birds Eye view, but a bird could actually hop right on mid air!!
That’s the problem you don’t care. So be prepared to stand on a seat that’s similar to a roller coaster because you did say you didn’t care what you sit on.🤷♂️ get ready for the crotch to start hurting
I flew once on Spirit. I swore I would never fly with them ever again. The seats were if I remember correctly a hard plastic shell with little back adjustment. The 3 most uncomfortable hours on a plane. These cattle movers are making driving great again.
Cars now have adaptive cruise control with distance and lane departure sensors. Basically has empty highways taken care of
The seats look like they should have "Little Tikes" embossed on them.

For short flights the seats should be fine. Maybe use another airline for long flights.
No! No! No! No! No! The last guy on the right has it wrong. He should have said "Be the airline that gives me ADEQUATE legroom......" We've been trained to think adequate is "extra" when it's not.
If an airline want's to stand-out, they should space the rows further apart (more legroom) and more padding in the seats. I know this will cost more per seat, but im willing to pay that. I don't want go all the way for first class, but there should be an option in-between rock-bottom-pricing and those $5000 first-class seats in some airlines.
Too bad there’s no CEO out there that would understand this and too delusional to see it.🤡🙄
have you tried flying on a more expensive airline?
That is called first class.
That option is called business class/premium economy. If you're willing to pay more, great! I, myself, am willing to sacrifice some comfort for cheaper prices. This is why there are different types of seats and of airlines for customers to choose from.
That was one of JetBlue's claims to fame in the early days ("the most legroom in coach" slogan). It did make them stand out, but not enough. Problem is, almost everyone sorts their flight searches by price, and the cost per seat depends on the number of seats on the plane. People will choose saving an extra $15 in exchange for losing an inch of legroom. So JetBlue changed from 34 inches to the industry standard 32 inches (still more than Spirit or American though).
We all want more legroom, it’s that easy
American, United and Delta all offer seats with more legroom. They cost more…you choose.
Actually, I'd settle for an electrical/USB outlet.

They should pay less attention to seat style and more attention to be sure nuts and bolts are in place and fastened as they should be. Oh, and extra strong seat belts for the next window or door blowout.
Seats are no different than Frontier's torture devices.
Why did all of that laughing at the end sound like a SNL laugh track??? 😂😂😂😂
People are sick of being treated like sardines, its sad how greedy airlines have gotten and how low the standards have fallen from the golden age of flying.
The so-called "golden age of flying" was only available to a small number of people. Flights today are significantly cheaper and accessible to a much bigger population. If you want to have more legroom, then pay for a premium economy seat. You get what you pay for.
Fork up another $200-300 and go first class, then do the return flight and you’ve got $700-$800 tied up in airfare to avoid the rear cabin crappy seats. But wait …. My family of 4 wants to fly first class also $$$$$$$$..chingedy ching ching$$$$
The key is if the 737-800s/Max8s will still have 175 seats with the new design, or more than 145 seats with the 737-700s/Max7s (what they currently hold now). If the number stays the same, then legroom isn't changing one bit (which is good because the legroom on their 738s is impressive). But if they add more seats, then I'll be concerned.
For what it's worth, American's 737-800s/Max8s hold 172 passengers (3 fewer than Southwest), but their planes also have first class and extra legroom seats. So they squeeze their economy seats way more to offer more "premium" seats.
Seat pitch and capacity stays the same. They've confirmed this.
If you can't afford to spring for at least premium seats then you can't afford the flight...
What about the Max 9? I flew Alaska Airlines twice this week with the exact same interior shown here, and I swear they shaved off inches on the seat width. The legroom felt the same though.
I've not experienced the seats myself, but it looks like the material on the seats would be something easier to clean and maintain compared to the fabric cushions in place on most planes now. This might make it easier to clean and maintain with a quick wipe down of some disinfectant solution... especially if someone gets sick or has an accident at their seat so the plane can be cleaned and rid of any odors a mess might leave behind... I have a gaming chair with the fake leather material and it's super durable and easy to maintain and still comfortable... maybe it's like the new gaming chairs available now...
An easier cabing to clean and maintain makes for less time waiting at the gate for a crew to finish their chores and get the plane ready and back up in the air.
The lack of leg space or packing more rows is a different issue and jamming more people into a plane sucks... I'm sure if the airlines could get away with it they would have people standing during the whole flight so they can fit more people in at once...
Fitting more people in a plane is not necessarily a bad thing if it means better prices. If you don't want to sacrifice your comfort, you can pay for a first-class or business-class seat.
Don't worry!! They will soon sell inflight extra cushion with their peanuts....
The last I flew SW I had a backache for several days, and I'm only five feet tall and weigh 108. Planes today are like sardine cans. Cram as many people as you can in there and don't worry about it seems to be the motto. PS - those headrests would probably be too high on the backrest for me and would just skim the top of my head, so they wouldn't be great for children either.
Well pay more for comfort seats on another airline. There are always other options.
@kammyr4082 your paying enough for the ticket, should not hold the comfy seats hostage to increase your profit. It's not like your on a different plane
No options for small women or children. @@kammyr4082

Who cares? People complaining probably don't even fly. They look easier to clean, and they look okay for a quick flight. When flying overseas, I can see why people would like more comfortable seats. P.S, Southwest dont fly overseas, they operate 737 only
Slight correction. The people complaining aren't ones that "don't even fly." A lot of them are people who refuse to fly because of the way airlines treat their passengers.
@russs7574 I've personally never been mistreated at the airport or by airline employees. The only rude ones are Customs and Boder protection, and they are government employees. TSA just wants to get people through and look miserable at their job.

Whoever said "Ozempic seats" deserved a credit for that one 🤣
I'm confused about what is a 2D picture and what is a 3D picture. Isn't a picture always 2D (it's flat)? 3D is just how your mind perceives what's in a picture. Anyway, I don't see why people are complaining. How can one complain without ever sitting in these seats? The last time I flew, they tried to not let anyone go to the bathroom for 5 hours. I was next to two large men and had to sit basically turned to the side the whole time. I had back pain for weeks after. It's becoming literal torture to fly imo
I have had my heyday... days of flying are over, for me. There is nothing I want to see that badly, in the world. I have my memories of nice flights and feeling free and adventurous.
So they did or didn't add a row of seats???
The number of passenger is limited by the emergency exit. Adding a new row won't change that.
That IS NOT correct. The number of exits can and will determine the MAX number of seat that can go on a plane….it doesn’t mean that Southwest or any other carrier ( flying any particular model of 737 ) was at that particular limit for SEATS.
The A380 airbus is certified for I believe 880 seats ….although nobody flies it that way.
Maximum seating capacity is how many people can evacuate ONE side of an airplane ( that side unbeknownst to the volunteer “passengers”) in a DARK hangar in, I believe, 90 seconds.
This applies to all certified airliners

Funny seeing People foolishly judging a product before its even introduced on the planes yet. Just shows you the direction this country is headed.
The improper spine alignment of the seat is OBVIOUS. I don't need to sit in one to know that's not healthy. I had the same problem when I bought my car. But I was able to pull out my car headrest and turn it backwards so my head didn't lean forward. The bad posture thing in vehicles has become a thing. Its obvious from the pictures though! Yes, I'm seeing it. So I CAN say something.
Oh how dare we stand up against corporations. How ridiculous of us to not just be subservient bootlickers. Before a product is even introduced is the best time to complain, dimwit. After it's introduced, you're stuck with it. I think you and the other 18 bootlickers who liked your comment are why the direction this country is headed is toward greedy corps continuing to lower our quality of life more and more so they can profit.
It's not necessary to " judge" those who are commenting about " judging" a product they haven't been introduced to as of yet. Nothing foolish about it.
When you review comments, you will see all the various concerns people have with seating. We all have a right to express concerns of comfort and safety. Kinda like when you are looking to purchase , you can read the SPECS, measurements, size of seat, legroom, type of materials used, and make some reasonable deductions as to comfort, ergonomics.

I don’t get the beef with southwest. 2 free checked bags is incredible. I’ve flown 30min flights and 3 hour flights, changed planes, not changed planes, and never had a single issue with southwest. I’ve never had a bag lost or damaged. I prefer the window seat and my wife takes the middle. Im comfy and have plenty of room, I don’t see why someone needs 13” of additional leg room to be comfy for 1 hour. And then everyone gets mad about the boarding process and how people get on before you even when you’re in the front of the boarding line.
Southwest is the best bang for your buck. If you don’t like it, spend 2x-3x the money and fly delta first class.
Not the best bang for the buck
@@povertyspec9651 lol your username is literally poverty. What’s the best, spirit? Frontier?
This is half of the reason I have no desire to get married. No way in hell I'm being stuck in the middle seat every time I fly
@@jennifermarie3158 lol she is by no means stuck in the middle seat 😂
She hates the window, and we have only had someone sit next to her twice. And those two flights were less than an hour.
If that’s “half the reason,” I can only imagine what the other half is.
The next generation of proposed seats has passengers virtually in a standing position (think a seat like a bicycle where your weight is on the seat with your feet touching the floor). I've also seen a rendering of a double-decker seat configuration where you can choose an upper-level or lower-level seat, but if you're on the lower level, the upper level passenger in front of your seat has their butt essentially in your face. (Hopefully they didn't eat any of the airport food before getting on board.)
Those look like the same seats that Allegiant uses, the difference is that Allegiant's prices are significantly cheaper.
The key question is how soft is the bottom cushion? I am royally fed up of airline seats causing tailbone pain.
After hundreds of flights during my life my tailbone now makes me avoid flying whenever there is an option.
I hate they bought out Midwest Express because they were 10x's better and they did not skimp on anything.
Thank you for the warning The curve in the seat would kill my back.
These seats, the legroom and angle of recline is regulated. You need to have enough space for passengers to get up and get out of the plane in an emergency. So you can't pack people in to the point they're stuck in the seat, in an emergency.
Regulators set the lowest possible legroom allowed, it can't get smaller. Airlines today are right on that line.
The airline with more leg room... Thank you Delta and Alaska.
