  • In this video, I’ll walk you through how to quickly and easily remove the nuts on the bottom two studs of your HVAC assembly; and yes, it can be done without breaking or removing anything.
Many of the videos you’ll see about replacing your S-10’s heater core will encourage you to break the two bottom studs in your HVAC assembly, simply because they never bothered to look further than the CZcams video that THEY watched, when they were trying to figure out how to do it.
Don’t break things in the name of laziness , or simply because some yahoo on CZcams says it’s the only way.

Great video! I have a 98 Sonoma and need to make this repair. I saw the video of people breaking tabs off, like you said, and it seemed counter-intuitive to making repairs. I appreciate you posting a video of how to do it the correct way.

That all made real good sense about those 2 nuts on the lower engine side but we didn't have any success. The passenger side nut made the stud spin in the plastic. We couldn't get the deep socket over the passenger side stud from above or below. We had no other choice but to break the bottom ones. There is still that middle screw on the interior side that holds the bottom so that's that. Maybe this old thing has just seen too many miles.
Thanks for your great help though.

That bolt at 2:47. I saw a view where guy drilled a hole opposite it in the plastic box under the hood that I think resistor pack was on and used a socket on an extension to get at it.
