Okay Okay...I have things to say. By the end of The War of Two Queens I had completely fallen out of love with this story and these characters. Then I read A Shadow in the Ember and became thoroughly obsessed with Sera and Nyktos so I was excited to get back into FBAA with the hopes that Sera/Nyktos would make an appearance.
But then I read A Soul of Blood and Ash and I fell in love with Cas and Poppy all over again! I think a recap of everything was much needed (thank God I didn't reread book 1-4) because obviously there was a lot of the same scenes, we all know and love (the Red Pearl and the willow tree *heart eyes*) but also there was everything he was doing behind the scenes. Obviously, the progression of the present timeline was essentially nonexistent until the last scene, but I feel overall very satisfied with what we got. And now we know The Primal of Blood and Bone is going to be absolutely insane.

Oh this is so sad!!! I keep hearing bad things about this book
I pre-ordered this and already have it, 100% I will read it but probably not soon. All the bad reviews put me off. I think it is time to slowly wrap up this series.

I have to agree that the chapters with Cas’s POV were disappointing. I was so excited to read his perspective from the first book but it was dull and mostly uneventful. The present tense chapters were my favourite and the last chapter bombshell was so unexpected, i loved it.
I love this series and will definitely read the rest to see what happens to the characters. In all honestly Poppy/Cas were my favourite couple but Sera/Niktos story is currently my no.1. I cannot wait for the last book to see what happens to them

Absolutely, it became quite tedious to revisit the same dialogues and scenes. The scenes I enjoyed the most were the ones in the present line.

To me, this one just felt like a nice little intermission of sorts. The next bit of the story is sure to be insane.

Definitely not. And I totally agree with you...Sera and Nyktos...oh I love those two! I was actually a bit reluctant to start that story but absolutely loved it! Much more so than Poppy and Cas. I can't wait for the third book but also a bit nervous now after reading A soul of ash and blood 😬

I feel the same way. I was so disappointed with this book. Like utterly disappointed. After I basically binged the first 4 books in the series, I was so eager to get my hands on A Soul of Ash and Blood.
From the get go, looking at the chapter titles, I instantly became so weary going into it
but I was hopeful because I love Cas.
But mannnnnnnn!! can I tell you how frustrated I got, I’m like why am I reading a freaking copy and paste of the series. I literally got vexed everything I heard a scenes from previous series being repeated
with very little variation. There were many times that I wanted to just throw the book away. But again I stayed hopeful because of my love for the characters. The new scenes lacked substance, they didn’t evoke any emotion. Also, hearing Cas POV of Kieron was irritating, I’d prefer to have heard both their perspectives.
The only good parts of this book, in my opinion, were the first and last present tense scenes.

For me Jennifer is just extending a story that is becoming very boring to follow. I rather to read A Shadow In the Ember series than this.
