This is actually pretty fascinating. How many times have we seen the antagonist do that "join me" bullshit with zero intent of actually ever joining forces? Only using that line to get in a free shot? But here, he actually looks really excited to have someone join his side. Immediately lets HIS guard down, only to be betrayed for a free shot. I'd love to see something like that happen in Star Wars. It somehow has a really humanizing effect on the antagonist.

The difference is, the world he created for Japan was not founded on anarchy. Armstrong's end goal seemed to be that the weak will die and the strong will take what they want. So homeless people that can't fight would probably die to people who could. He didn't take enough into consideration when making his plan. And a lot more people would suffer if he succeeded.

If you look closely, when Armstrong smiles at Raiden (1:10), Raiden smiles back at him, only for the camera to pan behind Armstrong to later reveal it was a fake smile. Also, notice Raidens mouth tense up like a smile, but his eyes don't. A perfect fake smile. This game is a masterpiece.
I love how the direction is aimed at seducing you, the audience, into buying in with him, but then at the last second, take that agency away from you, because it's a story about Raiden and his choices, not your own

D4RKHOUND kinda late to this party but he wanted to start the war because war helps the economy believe it or not. WW2 got us out of the Great Depression after all. And after the guns of the patriots incident, America was left in a state of uncoordinated chaos. While it was recovering it wasn’t recovering fast. So Armstrong wanted to start a war to help bring America back on top.
The fact that Armstrong was genuine in his reaction to Jack goes to show that he really believed in his cause and actually wanted to strive for change. I can respect him for that.
The more I watch this, the more I feel bad for Armstrong. He had high hopes when he thought Raiden was actually gonna join him. Armstrong is such a good boss battle, I need boss battle where you feel bad for them when their hopes get high. I rate Armstrong boss fight an 10/10

I would have loved that as well. It's also part of the reason why I love the infamous games. 1 and 2 at least Second Son was kind of meh, good gameplay but subpar story. But anyway I really liked how you got to decide how major points in the story went as well as the ending.
Kinda felt sad for Armstrong on this one. When you see him in joy for a short second to see Raiden actually agree with his ideals. Being he wants someone as an equal to him or at least take part and agree with his master plan being Armstrong really doesn't have anyone other than henchmens while Raiden actually has people who are friends/allies that help him.
