    It takes real talent to redesign a difficult architectural space. You have fabulous design ideas and your videos are relaxing to watch. I moved from a larger house after separation, to a smaller house. It was a challenge to scale down but I like a smaller house.

      @behuman5725 - Oh Honey, I hear ya!!!! We moved to a Ranch Home, which is what I want when we first looked at homes over thirty five years ago, but that's another story. We scaled back after thirty-five years, well, mainly because neither one of us are in our Thirties anymore, and we wanted to be closer to the Grandboys.

    One thing I rarely see in any modern design is a decent-sized desk. Not just a tiny put-your-laptop-on table. A desk on which you could put a newspaper, a canvas, a 1000-piece puzzle, or just do your homework.
    I would love to see a tiny/small house redesign that incorporates some really nice desk-space^^

    • @janepage3608
      @janepage3608 Před 6 měsíci +9

      Me too, and ideally a desk/table you could walk all round. But that takes up so much space that it’s almost impossible to fit in a tiny house. Unless you slept underneath it, maybe…

      Exactly. I sew and do crafty stuff. Where to store my tools, etc? I have clothes. I have holiday decor. I have tire chains I prefer not to carry in the summer. Where do people put that kind of stuff in a house like this?
      The bedrooms were big enough to not have to stand on the bed to make it. I didn't get a claustrophobic vibe at all. All the white walls and natural light do a good job of making it seem open and airy.
      The redesign of this was beautifully done. Not a detail overlooked. A comfortable, livable home. And unique!

    It's really annoying with 'listing' as they would rather see a building fall down than have someone restore it in a way that they don't agree with, makes no sense. I KNOW that there are many horrific restorations out there but honestly it is worth the risk to save them.

    • @pdq5465
      @pdq5465 Před 5 měsíci +15

    • @kkerr1953
      @kkerr1953 Před 4 měsíci +6

      It sounds like most of them just want someone to “save” and “restore” the original building without any thought to actually being able to use it. Almost like a museum piece. Who has the money for that?

      Im in bradford listed buildings here vary, I've see Victoria shop fronts ripped of and red plastic front replacement .a local shop in an old coach house had the side ripped out and a supermarket type glass entrance hall fitted . I'd use the door near the living room as my "formal" or guest entrance. I think it's very welcoming with a built-in bench and wonderful window. I'd use the door near the kitchen/dining as my personal utility door for toting groceries and taking out garbage. Of course, that assumes I'd have a room for parking near said door. In any event, always enjoy your clever, creative and realistic designs. Cheers, from California.

    That's a beautiful idea and use of space. Given the layout though, this seems it would work best as either a 1 bed property or a luxury Air b n b / holiday let - in which case you could get rid of the downstairs bedroom and maybe have a dual aspect fire and more free flowling living space downstairs - but in any case, listed building status shouldn't mean that buildings are left to rot - there should be enough judgement and skill to enable sympathetic upgrading to ensure no loss of use -

    Brilliant match to the main house, the matching roofline is perfect! I agree about not having a wall in the upstairs bath but I prefer showers so I'd go for the largest open shower possible with a skylight - opportunity for plants. This would also leave room for a private reading nook Love the idea of shifting the entrance and adding a door to the potential parking/garden area. Also, keeping the main fireplace downstairs like you proposed is key to giving the downstairs a great focal point.

    Love this project, I would leave it as a one bedroom upstairs, keep the whole ground floor of the original house the living room with the fireplace interfacing to both rooms , then doors beside the fireplace to create a multipurpose option for the room you now have as the first bedroom eg a work from home space, or a guest bedroom, or even a small child’s room. Love that you thought of adding a luxe spa like bathroom to an otherwise very pragmatic design. I would add a veggie garden and bifold doors from the dining space of the new extension to make it an indoor outdoor type of option. 🥂

    I really like this and I agree, I wouldn’t bother with the wall in the upstairs bath especially since I’d be living there alone. 😀 The modern updates make it comfortable, but still retains it’s quirkiness. I’d live there in a heartbeat.

    Beautiful. I just wish that the entrance wasn't into the kitchen - a hostess's nightmare when entertaining guests! LOL

    Your designs are amazing! You think of ideas I never would have thought of and the best use of every space. I really like the shape of this building and exterior finish. Nicely done!

    Lovely! I’m concerned about water runoff between the new and old rooflines and possible water damage, especially during freeze thaw cycles. You’re still doing better than anything I could think up.

    IF I could, I would ALWAYS build my kitchen a bit separately from the main and really.. the rest of the house. Lots of windows and a breezeway between the cook space and the rest of the living spaces is just.. perfect. So I love this beautiful enhancement to make the add on flow and improve the floor plan.
