I named her Hodary after the little gecko from the Lion Guard, because she was such a small baby squirrel when I first saw her, but she had a strong and feisty personality. I think Lilly is her mom because they look very similar and have very similar personalities, also Lilly was always around Hodary when Hodary was a baby.
Squirrels are so intelligent. I have a large extended family where I live and a couple of years ago we had a big freeze, i was so worried for them and bought some mixed nuts in shells and put them.under their tree which is next to a path I walk under to get to the bus stop I use to get to work. The next time I walked past they shook the branches and what was left of the fall leaves gently began to fall on me and all around, at first I didn't realise what was happening as it wasn't windy. When I realized it was the squirrels showing gratitude I nearly started crying. It was a magical moment for me and one I'll never forget. I knew before that squirrels were intelligent but that they could show empathy and gratitude was enlightening.
I know they naturally stand up on two legs sometimes, maybe in anticipation or just for a better view, but I used to have several visitors who would often stand up when they saw me approaching the window/door & would also eat whatever I gave them upright. One even used to wait until I’d opened the door, then stand up & shuffle towards me on his back legs. I honestly got the impression they were trying to mimic me & how I moved in some kind of tribute, as if to try & win favour with the food giant by trying to flatter it with imitation. Every time I see a squirrel merrily going about it’s squirrelly business, I just feel happy 😊 They’re just beautiful creatures & yours are particularly fine specimens (I suspect it’s got a lot to do with their 3 Michelin Star diet…) Thanks for sharing 🤗❤️🐿
That's cool! I've seen squirrels stand up like that many times, especially when the look like they are frozen, but actually they are checking to see if the surroundings are safe. But I haven't seen many squirrels eat in that position, like Cutie did in this video. 😊

They clearly don’t have any fear they’ll ever need to flee from you, so I guess they’re happy to feed without feeling they need to adopt a stance that allows them to jump or run at a split second’s notice. That they don’t just grab & go, but would rather stay & eat with you, watching you, shows such a wonderful, close & trusting bond. They clearly enjoy your company & are probably just as curious about you as you (& we) are about them. They’re such intelligent little creatures & yours seem to be a great judge of character 👍🏻 Love the gentle hand/paw contact too ❤️

I love all your videos. I had a squirrels named picky . He would go through my bag of peanuts until he found the perfect one and then sit at the picnic table and eat there with us. I miss him. Stay strong. You are a good person ❤

I love when they stand up straight. It’s so cute. I got the timing down to almost see my momma daily. Which is great. I collected a bag of hickory and walnuts on my last walk she seems to be enjoying the new nuts I collected.
Cutie and friends are adorable! I have found that my girl squirrels are the bravest and will come the closest to me. I usually feed my squirrels raw peanuts and walnuts. 😊
I like that Cutie (boy? girl?) hangs around to eat the nuts rather than running off like most of the other squirrels. Cutie may have preferred the peanuts over the pecan at that moment, but he/she paused for a moment to think it over: "Hmm, a pecan? Nah, I'm cool with the peanuts." 😁
A friend of mine hand raised two baby squirrels they're still with her and they're adults they won't leave her so she just continue to take care of them and they are so sweet they have this massive cage but she leaves it unlocked for them so that when they're tired they can just get back in and fix their nest and go to sleep they are absolutely adorable and love her like she is their mom..
I showed Wednesday’s smack down video to my 3 year old granddaughter. She loved it! It was such a hit, we watched a few more clips. Thank you for doing this.
I am so glad there are people who love squirrels, because many others kill them for different "human" reasons. They claim they are pests, but they have to eat and live, too, like every animal. And they created woods and human destroyed them. People live now in squirrels home and want to chase them, like always.
I feed the squirrels that visit unsalted roasted peanuts because I read raw peanuts may likely contain a fungus which causes loss of appetite, vomiting, liver damage, and death in squirrels and other animals.
I have a couple of ground feeding stations that allow them to stand upright to eat from the dishes. Always makes me think they are eating at the lunch counter at Woolworths. 😅

I bought the mixed nuts in the shell from Amazon. My squirrels seem to only want the unsalted roasted peanuts in the shell though. I'll keep trying. There are a bunch of babies this year. ❤
They probably need a little bit of time to realize what they are. I had a few squirrels who were afraid of those nuts in shells the first time I offered them, but as soon as they realized what they were, they went nuts. 😊
My main squirrel, Conner (he has a mustache like Sean Connery), asks me for nuts. I gave him a walnut which he picked up, threw down and then looked back at me. This happened with the almond, hazelnut, pecan and brazil nut. He wanted that peanut. Hahaha.
