because almost all HK press are not really free but controlled by local tycoons, many of whom are actually against China. They distort what are really happening so to tilt public opinion against the Police. The HK protest is not really about the extradition bill but , as evident in reality a subversive riot trying to topple the HK SAR Administration. Indeed the HK Police is very professional and I'd say the best in the World by any comparative standards.

ADVICE TO POLICE CHIEF: 1. Surround rioters in campus 24/7, nothing goes in nothing/no one comes out. Turn campus into rioters prison, unable to leave so unable to riot. 2. Turn off all electricity/ water/ gas. After one day all phone laptop batteries die, and can not recharge (no internet). No refrigeration cold food spoil can not eat it get sick. 3. No water no hygiene, thirst after all bottle water empty 4. No gas no cooking. After a week-10 days rioters get bored (can not leave go fun rioting or can not go home or internet social network, no food or water thirsty and hungry, tired, dirty body smell. Rioters start arguing and infighting, many want to leave offer them to surrender and arrest them as they come out single designated exit. Shave heads of all those arrested (girls too) so when released HK people will know they were rioters that destroyed their city. University should annul all diplomas from arrested rioters Police need hire skip loader escorted by armed police to shoot any rioter throwing any objects at them Skip loader can just plow through the streets pushing all debris in big pile blocking off all exits from campus. If the contents of the tear gas is your most immediate concern, well should the police consider more lethal or intruding options like rubber bullets, or even live ammunition? Question not the reaction, but the actions that cause these police reaction in the first place.
Seal off the campus allowing only exit for students to go home after proper identification and registration, no more supplies getting in. Stop electricity and water too. See how long they could fight.
