Yes De La Hoya was criticized at the time for fighting someone so small but that fight was at catchweight of 144 which is why Oscar was so weak. No way Canelo would agree to a catchweight where he is the fighter coming down in weight.

The only challenges at 168 for Canelo I believe would be Benavidez, Morrel, and Crawford stands a chance at outpointing him. A fight against Berlanga would be pathetic; but we still have to see if Crawford and Benavidez make it through their upcoming fights to negate that possibility.

In the last 2 years Inoue has fought 5 times, in these fights he unified Bantamweight (Donaire and Butler), then he stepped up to Super Bantamweight and unfied that too (Fulton and Tapales) and now just defended it a 1st time.
P4P shouldn't be about who we think is the better fighter at his peak, else why not keeping into consideration also past boxers, it defines who is the P4P at the moment and as of right now (Before the Madrymov fight) you have to give it to Inoue.
Crawford is a middleweight, he himself said he walks around 180, he fought featherweights 25 out of his 40 fights, he's never been in a fight where he was at disadvantage physically, with his long arms he can choose to fight at a distance and nobody could reach him, it's not that special to me until he can deal with someone truly bigger than him. Inoue Usyk and Canelo on the other hand have gone up against bigger champs where they are at disadvantage physically and relied purely on skills to beat them, to me they are the top p4p.
So people complaining about Crawford v Canelo size difference, which are literally the same height. Canelo had to go up in weight classes to feel challenged. If you compare Benavides to Canelo, that’s an obvious size difference. Benavides is 6 inches taller and probably comes in at 190lbs on fight night. Crawford V Canelo is a much more fair fight.
