PREMISE
X-Men '97 continues the story of X-Men: The Animated Series (1992-1997). In both series, mutants are people born with superhuman abilities that generally manifest during puberty. The X-Men are a team of mutant superheroes founded by Professor Charles Xavier to protect mutants and humans alike. At the end of The Animated Series, Xavier nearly dies in an assassination attempt and is taken to space to be healed by the alien Shi'ar Empire. X-Men '97 begins a year later and sees the X-Men facing new challenges without Xavier, under the leadership of their former adversary Magneto. As with the original series, X-Men '97 combines action, soap opera-style drama, and exploration of serious topics.[

Loved every single episode, my ranking would go:
10. Motendo/Lifedeath Part 1 - 8.5/10, great episode far as I go, Jubilee centered, awesome 8-bit style mixed in there, some good moments with Storm, may feel like filler but still great
9. Lifedeath Part 2 - 8.5/10, Charles is back, and he’s reintroduced to us in great fashion, and the Storm moments were really cool in this one.
8. To Me My X-Men - 9/10, works to re familiarize us with the team, and it feels like a classic episode of your favorite Saturday morning cartoon. No better way to say, we’re back! Also, loved the Evangelion reference thrown in here with Cyclops’ landing.
7. Fire Made Flesh - 9/10, this was when I realized they were gonna go all out with the show. Love the horror tone in here, Sinister was done to perfection, and the animation was gorgeous. The Jean and Madeleine conflict was great here too.
6. Mutan Liberation Begins - 9/10, Magneto’s intro was so freaking good, the whole episode was.
5. Bright Eyes - 9.5/10, a grieving and angry Rogue was so freaking cool and there’s some great writing with her and the team members. The ending was sensational too. Also, loved the Evangelion Unit 02 homage here with Rogue, I instantly recognized it lol.
4. Tolerance is Extinction Part 1 - 9.5/10, it all starts coming together and tying in neatly. Wolverine and Nightcrawler team up actually had me jump outta my seat cheering.
3. Tolerance is Extinction Part 2 - 9.5/10, that Wolverine and Magneto panel had been etched into my mind ever since reading it as a kid, and to see it come to life here gave me a tremendous whiplash. Phenomenal episode.
2. Tolerance is Extinction Part 3 - 9.5/10, great finale, closed most everything out nicely, but did leave me wanting more. Phoenix was my favorite part of the episode.
1. Remember It - 10/10, this is peak writing. Worldbuilding, character dynamics, complex arcs, it all hits. The episode feels like Attack on Titan much later on too, but this was where the writing hit most with all the characters and it’s easily the most emotional and wild episode in the show. The title is fitting, there’s no forgetting this episode.
Undeniably one of the bestest things Marvel has ever released, this show went so hard.

Spot on. I put Motendo above L&D2 and the pilot because I find Jubilee in a 90s retro game more fun than prof X lecturing us. The pilot’s not bad, but it’s mostly just setting up where everyone is now. When the worst episode is still a fun ride, that’s a great season of TV.

Motendo was a very necessary episode as it was the end of the nostalgia part of the show and it grew up from there.

@@DynamicGuy123 just to clarify, I love all of these episodes so much. Not a single episode is anything short of spectacular. It’s just that I don’t episode 2 as much as the others. It’s still amazing though.
Episode 2 is awesome because of Magneto. The part where he drags the assassin and the UN up into space is so badass and shows that he’s willing to try Charles side to avenge his death friend. I really enjoy episode 3 with Madelyn Pryor as it goes full horror and the finale was just peak, so cool to see characters like Cloak and Dagger and Crimson Dynamo get small cameos and it makes the world feel lived in.
Those final 3 episodes were amazing.
But Remember It was far and away the best episode for me.

1. To Me, My X-Men - This is it. The revival of a series I enjoyed with my Dad. Seeing the action sequences of the warehouse, the X-Men doing combo sequences on the Sentinels, and giving Cyclops the attention he deserved was truly remarkable, and I don't think I'll ever forget beginning to watch '97.
2. Remember It - This legitimately was my second to favorite episode without a doubt, the action sequences with Gambit and the Sentinels were truly beautiful, and it showed how far Gambit's abilities can go.
3. Tolerance is Extinction Part 3 - This entire episode was one rollercoaster and I'm here for it. The ending with Askani and young Cable in the future, and En Sabah Nur in the past is really interesting to see how they're going to pull off S2.
4. Tolerance is Extinction Part 2 - Wolverine dons the brown suit, Cyclops wears the first class suit, Jean's in her Marvel Girl outfit, and seein Magneto do the thing to Wolvie was AWESOME!
5. Tolerance is Extinction Part 1 - This episode truly introduces Bastion, and I was SO stoked to see him on the small screen, since he's one of my favorite X-Men characters. Not to mention that the Wolverine in the sky displays his Berserker Rage if anyone didn't see that.
6. Bright Eyes - Man, this episode was one I wasn't ready for, due to what happens in the previous episode, and seeing Rogue going through things, Captain America, was very eye-glued to the screen.
7. Lifedeath Part 2 - I really enjoyed this episode duly to the fact it focused on Storm being able to reobtain her abilities and overcome the Adversary.
8. Mutant Liberation - Magneto drops a massive hit on a monologue, seeing Storm lose her abilities was saddening to see, and the ending stinger of Jean Grey coming to the X-Men for their help really had me going.
9. Fire Made Flesh - Goblin Queen story was cool, loved seeing Mister Sinister back, just wished we got a little more Sinister.
10. Motendo/Lifedeath Part 1 - Cool that we got to see more of Jubilee and the return of Mojo, but the others are way more enjoyable.
This series left me so emotionally drained and traumatized like nothing since Infinity War and Endgame

This show… just blew me away. And I’ve been a bit indifferent towards marvel lately. This really reminds you how great the X-Men can be (at their best, dare I say, they’re the best superhero team). 2 things that stand out to me the most. 1. The danger felt real. Primarily due to the events of episode 5, I was scared for peoples lives for the rest of the show. 2. The character dynamics HIT. They absolutely nailed this. I always felt what they wanted me to feel.

My favorites were the whole 3 part finale, episode 1, 5, and 2. Those are all top tier for me.
This is what we want out of Marvel. Live action creators, take notes. Marvel will never fall out of favor if they’re making content like this.
When you got to 3 i was thinking "5 is definitely number 1 but I'm wondering which order you'll put 8 and 10" so imagine my shock you put episode 5 at 3 lol

Honestly, great ranking the only thing that I personally would have changed was having Remember It be 4th and Tolerance is Extinction part 2 be 3rd.
I wish is that marvel looks at this show and sees how amazing marvel can be even with so many characters. I am beyond excited for season 2 more than anything else in marvels future right now. Even beyond the spider verse

My fav is the first where cyclops shined the fight scene was awesome cyclops jumping out the jet sticking the landing was awesome gambit wolverine morph team up was awesome

Honestly for once I’d say my ranking is spot-on with yours Sean. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this season despite not initially being much of an X-Men fan, and now I’ve made it my mission to binge the original show.
This show was fantastic
Outside of the jubilee episode, ( which was still good) i LOVED all the episodes
This might sound crazy but think about the ending.. some of the x-men land in Egypt, were displaced through time travel, and Rama tut has close ties to Apocalypse. We could actually be seeing Kang's presence even in this show as it all starts to culminate in secret wars
If I'm going on pure emotion felt through out the episode. It's definitely Remember It
I think it's almost universally agreed that the Motendo episode ranks last. But even that wasn't "bad", just seemed a little out of place is all. It comes last because the bar was set so damn high. The show was amazing.

The scene of storm flying after getting her powers back literally gave me chills
Totally agree!!! Made me want to see a Storm solo movie. Surprised Lifedeath Part 2 is so low on most people’s lists. It was one of my favorites. Loved both Storm and Xavier’s stories.

10. Motendo/life death part 2: it was too separated from the rest of the show
9. Fire made flesh: it focused too much on horror
8. Life death part 2: like part one it felt too detached from the main story, but the storm scene is incredible so that brings it up for me
7. Tolerance is extinction part 2: The first part of the episode Was dealing with what happened last episode and the second part was just set up for the next Episode. Magneto is great though.
6. To me my x men: amazing start to the entire series but feels mostly setup
5. Bright eyes: Rouge carries. the rest is still good.
4. Tolerance is extinction part 3: incredible episode ruined by the highly set up ending. Bastion is the best part of this episode.

2. Remember it: this episode is so damn good, the writing is top tier, gambit is amazing. R.I.P The only problem is that it’s a little lacking on action
1. Tolerance Is extinction part one: this is a perfect episode, The action is top-tier, The horror is top tier, the cameos are top tier. bastion is one of the greatest ones of all time. But what makes this number one is how magnetos saying ENOUGH gives me chills every single time. You can just feel the passion that was poured into this episode.
Overall, this was an incredible show. Hats off to the incredible writing team. I’m SO HYPED for season two.

Episode 6 was the calm down Sean before The Big Stuff Happened
Episode 9 was probably my favorite. I enjoyed the all-out X-Men action. Episode 5 is very close though. That episode is where I was like “damn this show is actually insane”
Lifedeath part 1 and 2 were average compared to rest of the episodes.... however the events were necessary for it's continuation. However Marvel was smart, They placed a genosha episode in between
I definitely agree about the bottom two. Some parts were just too goofy for me. But other than those two episodes, this was definitely my favorite Marvel show. Heres to hoping that Ice Man and Colossus appear in season 2!

10. Motendo/ Lifedeath pt 1: 8/10 fun and enjoyable episode that felt the most like an episode from the og show, and made episode 5 even better
9. Fire made flesh: 8/10, very good, loved the horror aspects of it and loved mister sinister, but it felt very rushed
8. To me my X Men: 9/10, So good, so enjoyable, and forshadows so much
7. Tolerance is extinction pt 2: 9/10 very solid episode that has little flaws
6. Tolerance is extinction pt 3: 9/10 perfect ending to this perfect show
5. Lifedeath pt 2: 9/10, loved this episode due to the shi'ar setting with professor x
4. Mutant liberation begins: 9.5/10, such an exceptional episode that truely semented how great this show would be, especially with magneto's speech towards the end
3. Tolerance is extinction pt 1: 9.5/10, such a great way to begin the ending of the season, loved everything about the episode, especially the one-shot with with wolverine and nightcrawler
2. Bright eyes: 10/10, everything about the episode is perfect, and has my favorite moment in the show, that being nightcrawler's talk with rogue in mexico

Remember it: 10/10, everything, and I mean it, EVERYTHING about this episode is peak perfection, the shocking turn half way through was so unexpectedly brutal and show that no one, even if named, important characters, are truly safe here. Also had so many gut puches here, magneto's "last" words, gambit's sacrifice, and the last sentence of the episode, this whole episode it peak perfection
I don't know my full ranking. All I know is that Remember It is number one and Motendo/Lifedeath Part 1 is number ten.

Show was fantastic
10. Motendo/Lifedeath Part 1- It was fun to see Mojo in an episode but everything else just wasn't that interesting to me.
9. Lifedeath Part 2- Although I loved the horror elements in this episode the skipping around to the Space Empire and Professor X just didn't intrest me. Storms classic suit in the end was cool once she got her powers back.
8. To Me my X-Men- A good introduction episode to get familiar with our characters and to set up the plot of the season.
7. Mutant Liberation Begins- Some funny moments in here especially getting Madeline to the hospital and Magneto telling the UN leaders to not make him go to lengths and break his promise to Xavier.
All episodes past this could be switched around because I think they were all great.
6. Bright Eyes- A good episode to get back to our X-Men post Genosha attack and seeing how everyone responded to it and Rogue going crazy.
5. Tolerance is Extinction Part 1- The start of Bastions attack and the assault on the Mansion was an awesome action sequence especially the Wolverine/ Nightcrawler slice and dice. The ending with Magneto doing what he told the UN he wanted to avoid after some nobody hurt Storm in episode 2.
4. Tolerance is Extinction Part 2- The lead up to the finale showing the conflict all the characters are facing post Genosha and the different views they have to beat Bastion. Also some classic comic panels put in here to maybe tease Season two plots.
3. Fire made Flesh- This may be unpopular opinion but this being a straight up horror episode was what made it so awesome and rewatchable early on. Some of the things for the nightmare sequences could only be done in animation. Goblin Queen and Sinister give off a serious creepy vibe along with setting up Cable.
2. Remember It- Celebration I'm the first half and sheer horror in the back half. All the death, destruction and loss here sets up the back half of the season.
1. Tolerance is Extinction Part 3- Finally a marvel show where the finale is the best episode with everything set up throughout the season gets paid off. Setting up the Age of Apocalypse for Season 2 and it's a storyline I can't wait to watch.

despite being the least liked episode, i loved the first half of episode 4 and it is one of my personal favorites
I think every person who’s favourite character is Gambit will say episode 5 is the best.
(It was the most emotional… made me cry and like you I grew up with the original series’s)
Personally The storm stuf missed the mark with me. And the space stuff
I would have liked it if Xavier had used his powers to make everyone think he was dead.
I belive ep 3 was too rushed but that’s the problem with having only 10 episodes they could have cut the storm stuf or shrunk it to make that a 2 parter and it would have been better… but that’s just not picking.

I cant lie i didnt enjoy the first episode much the action sequence felt abit clunky and there it moved way to quickly in my opinion. It put some people i know off watching but im glad i continued the second episode is a massive improvement and the show kept getting better im so excited for s2 now

Amazing ending to Gambit. Celebration in the first half and dread/action in the second half. This is how you write an episode!
Fyi: I did not watch the original show and do not have the nostalgia, but still the greatest Marvel show to me; and one of the greatest projects in the MCU
