- Alex Morgan is a USWNT player and the face of Women's soccer around the world. Before her brilliant professional career began, she was a player in a small youth club called Cypress Elite. After a number of interations and name changes, the club stands today as FC PREMIER. Dave Sabet who was Morgan's coach for 6 years in the club is featured in this video and he still coaches in the club and is the Director of Coaching.

I was 8 years old the first time I joined a team. I was 13 when I played club indoor and club outdoor for the first time. If I knew I was a late bloomer then my experiences would have made more sense back then. i.e. playing in the silver league and being passed on for ODP state. In a word -- politics. You literally need your parents to make connections to get your foot in the door. Soccer gave me a lot of things. When you are kept from advancing is when you start the real journey. Not when you play and win. If it was as easy as winning then all those players on teams who beat us would be great. What is great is learning. In the end that is all that matters -- not if you "outshined" all the competition.
I agree with you, Alex Morgan's situation didn't apply to most people who started club soccer at 13. I'm a boy and I started playing for Jeonbuk Hyundai Motor's youth team since I was five years old. However almost no one on the team at 5 years old made it to the u18. Sports are competitive, my several coaches at Jeonbuk told me only best players at u9 team will make it to u15, only best players at u15 will be able to join the u18 team. Every time those coaches tell me the best players is about 2-3 people. You need to be the best of the best in every single team in youth level if you need to success. I didn't made u18 team because the coach at u15 team reported to the coach of u18 team that I often get yellow cards from referee. Now, I'm not playing at any team, but I still play soccer at school just for a hobby instead of going professional.
I joined a real team ( my schools soccer team) when I was 10.. I love Alex Morgan!!
