Agreed. Imagine Emily & Phil together cycling across North America, Phil on route marking his territory (KOMs), while live streaming on Twitch combined with posts on YT.
I never comment on videos but man Emily you are my hero. Its so awesome to hear real thoughts and language on a video, not all the watered down, sponsor pleasing stuff. You keep it real, I'll keep watching Phil and wondering if I could drop him on my ebike! And for your information, have you ever seen a runner smiling? Enough said!
It's the old highway. They closed it to traffic when they built the new highway many years ago. Recently they re-paved it and closed it to all motorized vehicles.
380W for 20 minutes while at over 9000ft!? That's puts you right there with the pros, pretty impressive for a retired athlete. These days I'm happy to do that for about 2 minutes.
Amen Emily, on staring at Aspens and on running. Truer words have never been spoken. Great video Phil. I am definitely taking my bike the next time we take a family trip north.
When Emily asked what it is we should listen to I was 99% certain she was going to put in some pop crap. Then to my surprise, "Fuck Yeah!!!!" Finally some descent traveling music.
Being past the point of any KOM pursuits, even I was 20 years younger when living there, it was still fun to see that indy ride, at a pretty glorious time of the year…the scenery and lots of memories doing my slow climbs up to the pass, and fast glides back to town. Doing that ride with snow on the ground is always a gamble. Storms move in unexpectedly and a frozen handed descent in winds and snowfall is always a possible. Thanks for the sights!
Phil, this KOM attempt/bike path looks incredible - if you need more thrash/death metal to listen to when you climb, I'd love to send you my bands albums.
NEver riden Teton pass--but we used to ski/snowboard it a lot. Super cool--drive to top hike up another 2k' vert, go north or south, drop East or West and end up on the road below and hitch back up. Glory bowl at the top. Unreal views. Unreal terrain.
Song is: I despise by the Swedish band No Sons of Mine Exquisite choice, by the way. And I beg to differ, runners can talk and laugh.. I used to sing upto tempo speeds, but HR goes crazy
Thanks for the song title. I listen to a lot of Swedish metal like Soilwork, At the Gates, Amon Amarth but I haven't heard of No Sons of Mine until now. Its good stuff!
Awesome job! Watching this made me glad that my climbing is restricted to the small "mountains" in the east. No altitude effects to worry about and shorter efforts! The musical discussion was hilarious! Although having her lip sync to "quien tu eres" would have been epic! :)
Great KOM! You're still killing it, but obviously not at the same level as your pro days. Can you please tell us a comparison (percentage-wise) of your power / fitness now compared to then? Cheers.
My hunch is that his FTP is probably at 95% or so of his all-time best, while his VO2max might have dropped off a bit more... but Phil is still training like a pro and there are are plenty of pros at his age or older who are still in fantastic form
A better climb Maybe Deerpark Rd. in Port Angeles, WA from the bottom all the way to the campground at the top. You could do it on a road bike with 28 mm tires but a gravel bike works better.
Phil ... I hope you understand what a great partner you have in Emily. Worst retirement ever ... but the best companion for the rest of your life, ever.
So Phill you always rock the speed Suit but don't run A Areo road Helmet why? Im not talking about a TT helmet, like the Evade 2 or others. Congratulations on the KOM. What is your Hematocrit these days?
If you look at Joe's route on Strava you'll notice he does it after about 90+ miles of riding through the park!
That just means he had a better warm-up than Phil. :P
👆
lol. hey look man segments are segments. no one cares about your long ass ride that you were fast as hell on for hours!!
i hear he does so fast he has to paint numbers on the ground in order to tell time
Love Emily's peaceful musings on nature while Phil is somewhere suffering on that climb 😆
We definitely need more Emily in these vids; she adds a nice element of non-wattage-obsessed balance, plus some fine cursing skills.
Agreed. Maybe even completely removing Phil from the picture wouldn’t be a bad idea. :)
I love that idea
@@worstretirementever - Noooo! But Emily & Phil together could be the next Lucy & Ricky, or Hepburn and Tracy, or Forrest and Jenny!

Emily: “I just ran 10 feet!”
Phil: “That’s rough.”
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I definitely appreciate Emily speaking her truth.
I had no idea paths like that existed. Stunning
It's the old highway. They closed it to traffic when they built the new highway many years ago. Recently they re-paved it and closed it to all motorized vehicles.
"Running. Who enjoys this shit?" Emily is all of us
another great video and KOM by PG, but honestly the cursing by Emily may be the most entertaining/real part of this video for me :)

I was dying when Emily described her love for running. lol.
Great ride, totally loved Emily’s commentary, especially at the end. More please.

FWIW, that is essentially the music I listen to for my hill climb repeats. 🤘
Jack London quote provided = Greatness!
Vancouver B.C. (the city you already took all the KOMs in) has a beautiful bike path up between the mountains. The Demonstration forest!
Phil, this KOM attempt/bike path looks incredible - if you need more thrash/death metal to listen to when you climb, I'd love to send you my bands albums.
Love your sense of humor man and the inspiration to keep pushing even in our middle age love your channel
Brutal effort there at the top... and you did pretty good too, Phil!
Just listened to your book Draft Animals, on a looong car ride. Thanks Phil, Highly recommend reading or listening.
Thank you!
I’ve been to the top of that pass but only realised when I saw it in this video. Great views.
What a stunningly beautiful place for a bike path! Nice work, Emily 😊
My wife says Emily’s commentary should be a regular on the channel!
That lady you got is a keeper, we need some more of her on the channel.

Had to watch Emily running on repeat a few times as I could not stop laughing at her commentary while running!
That is an incredible bike path. I did the climb a month prior. Wish I had the same fall colors and temps. Cool to see this.
You’re right - that has to be the best bike path anywhere! Awesome effort …
Congrats 🎉
tough day for both of you, and my speakers :))) kudos!!!
Shame, so many people feel the need to swear.
Stunning place .. that must have hurt !

Wow! Would’ve never guessed SCREAM-O is on the play list! 🤘🤘🤘. Maybe I need to listen to that on my rides to improve my times! Nice Job Phil!
Got married in Jackson last year and rode Teton Pass. It’s so brutal. Glad to hear it gave you some trouble too lol
Awesome job! Watching this made me glad that my climbing is restricted to the small "mountains" in the east. No altitude effects to worry about and shorter efforts! The musical discussion was hilarious! Although having her lip sync to "quien tu eres" would have been epic! :)
perfect song
Love Emily’s thoughts on running! Great video Phil! 🤘💪
Love this lady! make her a regular please!!
Emily seems so different from Phil. 06:55 Oh, nope, there it is. Match made in heaven.
Lol - true words!!
I thought the music was Slayer?? Very soothing for biking.
Well done Phil, keep the pros on their toes!
Brilliant, both of you just brilliant.
Well done Phil, would love to come over to USA from the UK and do some of the fantastic rides one day
Greatest video of them all. Loved it
I've ridden that thing countless times back when I lived in JH. The pavement was shit. Nice to see some proper asphalt on there now.
Great effort. That wattage is so far out of my capacity.. hats off.
OMG!!! You should put a headphones warning @4:50. My ears nearly blew up and I jumped out my seat. LOL
Great KOM! You're still killing it, but obviously not at the same level as your pro days. Can you please tell us a comparison (percentage-wise) of your power / fitness now compared to then? Cheers.

Excellent power on altitude!
I wouldn't even be surprised if it turns out Emily actually listens to death metal. Great performance Phil...and Emily for running hahaha.
Best bike path on the planet is the Shimanami Kaido in Japan! Would love to see you go there!
That was the only highway for a long time. Lived in Wilson and rode the pass often.
Great effort Phil.
Who is the metal group! They rock!
Emily, you killed it! Please, please, please, replace Phil. Oh, and you should have ridden the E-bike with a GoPro mounted backwards to film Phil.
Perfect, now that you're at the top, grab a MTB out of the back of the car and drop into Lithium to go back down, best MTB trail in Wyoming :)
Love the vids, but please don't use a hand held camera while driving. Distracted driving kills.
Good job, Phil! Potty mouth Emily. 😂
Left turn at 3:56 looks like a nice trail. 4:01 too.
Emily loved the ending 😆
Check out the Olympic Discovery Trail in Washington some time. I did it last November and it was magical!
Fall is the best season for cycling, no contest.
Mt Glory!
Love you man! Really inspire me to be a climber as well!
Back atcha! Find some hills this weekend
@@worstretirementever Yeah man, that is all I do when I have intervals. Keep it up!
What's the name of the artist and song?
Just wondering where the drone was for this one? Too many trees? Would of been great viewing. Solid effort!!!
Drones are not allowed in National Parks
Emily's coming for your job!
Finally, back to KOM normalcy!
hey I know that one!
(took me a bit longer to climb it but I was on an mtb so)
The running scene mucho funny
Seems like Emily and I share pretty much the exact same feelings on running :-D
beast man phil
Phil....can you talk some about saddle choice? I know you used to rock the ISM stuff....I don't see those on your bike anymore.
MORE EMILY! 🤣🤣🤣
Surely it's time to hit the gravel ! Trails ! Nature ! 😀
soundtrack is choice!
Good tunes.
More Emily in the middle; she's much more entertaining that just watching you ride along. This was a perfect video!
21 minutes to the top? Cheeses! I make it DOWN in 21!
I love running up hill. Cycling up hill is a close second.
Helps to have used the small chainring and not waste watts by cross-chaining.
Phil, you make a 6’3” 190lbs man wanna become a climber 😂
Do it!
You're lucky - I'm a 6'3" 210lbs man and still trying to do climbs :-D
Well I thought DEEP PURPLE was Big Ring Musak...that didn't sound like "Jackson" by Johnny Cashhhhh haha
Was that a "No Ebike" sign on the path?
Yes
In about two years that path will be so cracked from frost heaves it'll be unrideable
A better climb Maybe Deerpark Rd. in Port Angeles, WA from the bottom all the way to the campground at the top. You could do it on a road bike with 28 mm tires but a gravel bike works better.
Descending one-handed with rim brakes in an area where moose might be in your way. Didn't realize you were doing your own stunts now
Phil ... I hope you understand what a great partner you have in Emily. Worst retirement ever ... but the best companion for the rest of your life, ever.
cant find Badd bunny song, not the rapperish
So Phill you always rock the speed Suit but don't run A Areo road Helmet why?
Im not talking about a TT helmet, like the Evade 2 or others.
Congratulations on the KOM.
What is your Hematocrit these days?
No weight disadvantage for the speedsuit! I do have the aero lazer helmet for a couple less steep ones. Boise I used it
@@worstretirementever Thanks for the feed back. Looking at your Blood work video now. Nice testosterone levels. Mine suck and I have never taken peds.
Was Emily a sailor at one point in her life?
Love The Hat “Latina AF”
More metal in these videos please 😂 that’s my go-to on a ride. Emily’s commentary made me lol.
I hate running, who enjoys this shit. Loved it.
Bear spray in back pocket??
Oh, hello... Well, this is nice for everyone, isn't it.
B E A S T
Plain fab 😂
