  • Let your mouth rejoice with this unique fusion of classic Filipino dessert favorites - Halo-halo and Turon, served with ice cream on the side!
Halo-halo which literally means "mixed together" consists of shaved ice, milk, fruits, sweet beans, and ube halaya*. Turon, on the other hand, is basically sweet plantain and jackfruit drizzled with sugar, wrapped in spring roll wrapper, then fried to a crisp.
This recipe calls for just 7 ingredients - sweet plantain, ube halaya, sweet beans, nata de coco**, brown sugar, spring roll wrapper, and ice cream. The ube halaya and the bits of sweet plantain melt in your mouth! Then you get bursts of sweet and chewy from assorted beans and nata de coco! All these lovely flavors wrapped in a warm, crunchy, spring roll wrapper balanced with a serving of ice cream... a perfect way to end any meal!
    *purple yam jam
    **coconut jelly
    INGREDIENTS:
12 pcs lumpia wrapper (spring roll wrapper)
1/2 cup ube halaya (purple yam jam)
1 cup chopped saba (sweet plantain)
1 cup Mixture of sweet red beans, sweet white beans, and nata de coco (coconut jelly)
    Brown sugar (for frying)
Vanilla Ice cream to serve (optional)
    PROCEDURE:
1 Place spring roll wrapper in a flat surface. Spread ube halaya two inches from the bottom center, place chopped plantains, and bean mixture. Lift the bottom side towards the center, wrapping the filling, then take the left and right corners and fold them towards the center. Finish rolling the turon upwards until about an inch remains. Brush the top part with water to seal. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
2 In a wide pan, heat with oil about an inch depth. Once oil is hot enough, put in some brown sugar and wait until the sugar floats. Fry the turon until it turns golden brown and the sugar sticks to the wrapper. Drain with paper towels.
3 Serve while hot with ice cream
