Few things. Martian Manhunter is 6’7” in the books, so any figure you display him with that’s a little shorter than he is, all the better. JUST before McFarlane took over (and yeah, I’m not a fan either) Mattel has switched over the line from DCUC into DC Multiverse. Yes, McFarlane just straight up jacked the name😅. But they were reworking the articulation and it was clear that it was a work in progress, but they were definitely on to something. DC took the license away before Mattel could release all the figures they previewed for the Multiverse line. I would KILL for a return to a proper DC six inch DC line again, but it looks like we’re a ways away from that.

When I compare an action figure "line", individual figure quality is only one aspect. I also look for the depth of character selection, the total number of figures, the value, completed teams, etc. In that sense? DCUC is absolutely the best DC line ever, it isn't even close IMO. This is a line where you could get Superman, Batman Beyond, Etrigan, and Kilowog! What other DC line can you say that about??? DCUC played it safe for its first few waves, but then the line QUICKLY dived into the more obscure parts of the DC Universe and it was amazing! Unlike McFarlane, we didn't get a Batman and a Superman every wave!
If we're JUST going off of individual figure quality? DC Icons was the best IMO (good paint, naturalistic sculpts, a lot of accessories, etc.). But like I said, I think you need to consider more than just figure quality when comparing entire "lines"

The articulation could’ve been much better when compared to other lines like marvel legends. I could pose them around, but it didn’t feel satisfying. By the time I actually started to like the line (around the clayface wave when they started using all new bodies and articulation) it ended. I was never attached to the line, so I was happy when McFarlane got the license.

Growing up in the early 2000's in the UK I didn't really pay attention to different figure lines, toys were toys to me, I didn't know what Marvel Legends were or anything like that. Once I got into my early teens and started properly reading comics I began collecting DC figures, but for me it was the DC Collectables/DC Direct releases that were 7" scale and were nice looking but fairly limited and brittle figures, then DC Icons came along later. Marvel Legends I feel like I didn't really see all that often, until around 2017 and I've been down that rabbit hole ever since.
I'd never heard of these at the time, and if I'm honest I appreciate them for what they were but they do nothing for me. Mattel in general I became aware of during their later years with DC figures and those DC Multiverse releases always looked so cheap and ugly to me, and in general I've just never collected Mattel stuff. That said I'm glad to know there was a DC figure line that went as deep as this one did.

7” scale is superior imo. With that scale you can get so much more sculpted and painted detail than you get with 6” figures. I was a weird kid, so the lack of a good articulation scheme on these really bothered me. Even when I got older and started doing action figure photography, it still bothered me. You can pose them around, but you can’t get too many cool or epic poses out of them.

4:17...I disagree. I think the articulation stands up to been today. I customize ALOT of DC characters that never got plastic recognizltion and I prefer to use Mattels DCU figures for customizing other DC characters...juss sayin'

Yeah if they could have tweaked the articulation design and hung on a little longer they could be killing it or would be a little dark wash would bring out the highlights, I have the DC Direct version that one highlights the alien look of it’s head, the other one I have is the translucent one as one of his powers is invisibility & intangibility which was Justice league. I’m preying Mattel would take a shot at getting the line back cause I’m with you I hate the way McFarlane dose things I have his Clayface and it’s terrible, I have his Lobo and it looks like a 6 year old did the face sculpt in it’s first sculpting class on day one and they have no talent it’s bad, that’s a beautiful shot of the Justice league I need a Hawkgirl I tried to get the Mezco green arrow someone stole mines when they delivery thankfully I was reimbursed my JL is mostly Mezco Figures

I think this line is the reason why I get disappointed with Marvel every year. I have an idea of how much ground a line cqn cover and it doesn't ever feel like Marvel ever gets it together or pads it out for too long.

Are you kidding me? These things were horrible. I have Superman and Batman figures from this line that are in my "reject" bin.

I always hated the sculpt of these figures especially since EVERY character is on the same one

It's a nice sculpt, but the articulation really makes this outdated and ugly.

Haha dang. I don’t think it’s ugly at all but yeah the articulation isn’t very good.

Man, I remember the story about Shark! You got Martin Freeman's character, Ross, and instead got him. I'd keep Shark if I were you too lol
I also wanted the Martian from McFarlane but then checked him twice and... nah. Something happened at the last minute with the audio, just so you know, around 23:28, nothing serious.

Mattel’s DCUC hit its peak with Blue Beetle Jaime Reyes, then when they transitioned to Multiverse, it was hit or miss, and mostly miss. I don’t like McFarlane’s Multiverse because of the scale and awkward articulation in weird spots, and that they can’t get Superman and capes right in terms of sculpt. McFarlane is great with the monster type characters but awful on humanoid aesthetics. DCUC had them beat. The only downside to DCUC is the square crotch look. That Martian Manhunter is one of my all time favorites.
