I do have two Pudelpointers, one long and one short hair. I do train them and I run both on National Shooting To Retrieve (NSTRA) Trails. The long hair just needs 1 point, 1 third place to be a Champion, and she did finish in 2nd place on the Canada regional elimination in 2015. I am very happy with this breed and I just run them on trails and hunt partridges in Ontario and Saskatchewan - Canada. You can see the dogs here on youtube, just searching my name.
i have one. his name is buddy and hes a tireless hunter/worker. but hes also very affectionate and a good companion. barely ever barks too. he barks more if he trees a squirrel than when someone rings a doorbell. i think he has a good sense of whos good and whos suspicious. hes also very gentle when playing with smaller dogs. i love this breed. i picked the puppy that was different. buddy has a white spot on his chest and a very prominent stripe of longer fur running from the top of his snout all the way to his tail. the only thing i dont like is his shedding because i like to allow my dogs in my bed but he is just too messy for that. he is impervious to cold water as well. i also want to add that he has never went to the bathroom in the house, even as a pup. so well behaved. i crate trained him and now he goes in there by himself i dont even have to close the door. hes very spoiled. gets raw meat every day and is worked multiple times a day so that hes nice a tired by the time it gets dark. i highly recommend this dog to owners who are willing to put in the time. if youre looking for a straight companion dog, look elsewhere because this dog needs high intensity activity every day to be content.
Reminds me of my dog Sugar who passed in May 2018. Did a Doggie DNA test ( she was a rescue ) and learned that she was a German Wirehair/ Lab Mix. She was a wonderful family pet. However, on our many long walks she set a point on many young rabbits in the grass along the roadside , nose to nose.
