- Tony Hawk 3 is one of the best games in the series, and one of my favorite games of all time! Here I review the Xbox version, as well as the previous gen PS1 version, which is surprisingly good. I hope you enjoy.

I remember being 7 and my cousins would tell me the blood was ketchup packets
LMAO
completely unrelated but in destiny 2 there's a sniper called "Eye of Sol"
just a random thought
Tony hawk 3 is my favorite, hands down
Not only there was a exclusive level in this version, there's also a
new character you can play as. His name is X-ray the skeleton.
This was my first tony hawk game. I got it for the ps1 and playing the foundry level after all these years still feels as fresh as it did in '02
Playing a tony hawk game with anything other than a PlayStation controller is weird to me
preach
trust me fam you are not alone
darkinertia2 same
darkinertia2 I’m on both sides of this cause I first play the Tony hawk pro skater 1 and 2 in the Dreamcast then play the rest on PlayStation, until my ps2 broke and I had to play on a original Xbox, tbh it felt the same just with that big ass controller.
Playing it with anything other than a keyboard is weird to me.
The PS1 version was the one I owned first because my parents couldn’t afford a PS2 at the time. I remember enjoying it a lot, but became bitter toward it once my cousin came over and brought his copy of THPS3 on PS2.
Eventually got a PS2 and THPS3 (and Jak & Daxter) were the first games I got for it. I never looked back at the PS1 version, but this video kind of made me want to pull it out and play it again, I admire that it wasn’t just a downscaled version of the 6th gen game more than it was simply a different version.
THPS2 is still the definitive Tony Hawk game for me, but 3 is definitely a close second. I have more nostalgia for the first game, but can admit that it’s incredibly janky in comparison to the later games without the manual.
Where you even skating when this came out?
*I wasn't even born*
We had the PS1 version because we didn't have much money growing up, but that game was probably the most fun I've had on the system. Playing split screen and making new levels kept us playing for a long time.
Whoa I had no idea the ps1 version was so different. It's almost like THPS2 Part 2. Another great review
before you review the
pro skater 4, the ps2 version has a demo of Shaun Murrays wakeboarding
Never picked up Wakeboarding Unleashed, but always meant to after the hours and hours and hours I sunk into the Demo on THPS4
Wakeboarding Unleashed was such a sick game, one of my favorites of all time
Great review! Thank you for going through the extra effort of reviewing it for PS1 as well. Really interesting to see the differences.
Yo man i love your vids please don't stop making them
I like how one of the missions in Pro Skater 3 PSX is just "commit murder".
Another great video as always.
I don't think the Xbox exclusive level was unfinished when the game was released. The PS2 version had online play and the Oil Rig level was given to Xbox players instead. Even though the Online features are no longer available on the PS2 version, I would still play the game on a Playstation controller over an Xbox one.
It's a pleasant surprise to see obscure Tony Hawk Levels return in the later games such as Amjam from Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2x(Xbox exclusive) in Underground in tampa. Oil Rig from Proskater 3 brought into Wasteland, as well as Rio de Janeiro ps1 into Project 8 ps2 version
i remember playing this game around the time it out and couldn't believe how amazing it was. i honestly haven't felt that way about any video game since then.
Heck yeah! Drain that Lip stat. I always put it in Switch so I didn’t have to worry with the skater’s stance. Best game in the series, hands down. I’m doing a slow burn towards 100% and I always love picking this game back up.
We had proskater 3 on pc. Really like it. The level in Canada with the dude with his tongue stuck to the pole is nostalgic.
THPS3 is probably my favorite one in the series. I love all the levels, and seeing how much the game evolved from THPS2 to 3 blew my mind when I was a kid. Even to this day it still holds up more so than games like THPS4 or THUG. While THPS2 technically might be better in a lot of ways, I think THPS3 is just the most well rounded Tony Hawk game and is the one I find myself coming back to all the time.
One thing that was weird to me when I was younger though was the addition of Bam Margera replacing Bob Burnquist. I can't remember why Burnquist wasn't in this game, if he appeared in some other game at the same time or what, but Bam Margera being the replacement confused me. At the time I only knew him from Jackass, and didn't even know he was a pro skater. And when I finally saw some of his skate stuff, none of it was that impressive to me, so it kinda rubbed me the wrong way that he got put in the game. I'm over that now that I've seen plenty more of his skate stuff and can acknowledge he deserves the pro status, but as a kid that threw me for a loop lol.
@Paul Bell Honestly I haven't had the chance to play it yet but from what I've seen it looks like it could be up there in the top 3.
When you select your skater the PS1 version of THPS 4, they’re divided into categories of “Pro Skaters”, “Custom Skaters”, and “More Skaters”. At the beginning of the game before you’ve unlocked anyone, Bam is the only one listed under “More Skaters”. I found that interesting, but it seems like it kind of fits with what you’re saying.
@@AlexRetroOfficial I actually found that out a few days ago myself lol. That is pretty bizzarre, there's really no rhyme or reason for it considering it took more effort to create a separate menu category. I guess the developers thought Bam Margera was some fictional character because of the name or something.
Bob Burnquist was in X-Games Skateboarding instead of THPS3
A way to get around the PS1 Pro Skater 3 revert thing is to ollie into your manuals after your revert. Not perfect, but it's a workaround I used when I played it as a kid
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 is my childhood and my first Tony Hawk's game, I was 7 when Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 came out in 2001.. I had never played the original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games until the current recent remake.. and now it's got me hyped to hopefully get a Pro Skater 3 Remaster...
for now I want to get my hands on an Xbox version so I can play it on my Xbox 360 that I still have floating around and relive my childhood memories
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 was the only game I played the most on my PS2 lol
Brings me back. Those were the golden years
I never knew there were so many different versions of the THPS games. Learning is fun.
The n64 version is pretty much just the ps1 version with all fmv removed but with a better framerate.
The reverts are essential to the gameplay, it allows you to combo off of vert tricks, making the game more balanced
im playing thps3 xbox version on my 360 but i cant play more than 2player on split?
I never realized how the different goals were determined and I bought this game brand new lol. So thank you.
I know it's not actually the same type of game but I'd love to hear your thoughts on the jet set radio games
In suburbia have you ever tried to jump in the front door of the haunted house?!
please discuss the ps1 version of pro skater 4 - it's a strange oddity. it includes reverts/levelling out your board AND a (really wonky) 3D camera when using analog sticks
Oh my gosh the nostalgia. Good times.
Omg how much I love pro skater 3 the gameplay Is phenomenal I haven't decided the best one yet but the 3 gameplay usually looks just on another level Its balanced out so well with the Improvements also the revert balanced out the game so well from the first 2 tony hawk games I love 3 the death even has hundreds of tricks and combos literally
oh yes the Rio level. i totally forgot that i had thps3 on psx and not on xbox. for so many years i wondered on in which game the rio level was :D
The oil rig level is in American Wasteland though
The best one out of the 4 to me.
How did you get this game in 480p on original xbox? I get a distorted screen. Or did you play this on 360? Thanks!
06:55 - I've got to say, there might have been a problem with your controller or something regarding the reverts. I played the PS1 version religiously a couple of years ago, easily clocked in about 100 hours and I found the revert-to-manual very consistent. I did notice that it feels different to the other versions but if you play it for a while you will get it to near 100% success rate.
i know it on xbox but any ideals how i can get my ps2 version looking this smooth and clear on a hd tv
Oil Rig was going to be in the ps2 version but it was removed at the last minute.
Why? I wish it wasn't.
Loved it, THPS 2 is my favorite.
#4 for ps1 IS a pretty great game too! I love throwing it on from time to time.
Since youre doing them in order, does this mean that after thps4, youre gonna do thps5? Since that is the latest one.
I was so jelly for my friend having PS2 at the time, while i got that PS1 version.
Tony hawk's 2 and 3 are my favourites from been a kid 👌 underground was very good aswell
can you look at the gba games
I will! I'm going to figure out a good way to capture that stuff
Rad Rat Video game cube gameboy player!
Nice Spiff painting.
First thps 3 I've ever played was on ps1, the moment I started I was like, nah, I'd rather thps 2. However when I got my ps2, I got a chance of playing thps 3 again, and it blew my mind, it was a completely different game, huge changes, great features, def one of the best Tony hawks games ever.
You forgot to mention the Big Drop mechanic is in the PS1 version of Pro Skater 3.
Underground is the best, because, not only the skating mechanics in the game are good, especially the walking...it was because it actually featured a story for the first time, starring your own created skater....don't get me wrong, Pro Skater 3 is a masterpiece, but I had so much fun playing Underground and I miss playing it....plus, the soundtrack is so damn nostalgic and superb
same, the soundtrack, getting off your board, the maps, the story, but the customization in thp4 was also good
I basically don't have a favorite between all of them through 1 and Underground. Perfect games. While the story of THUG was at times cheesy (and I think they somewhat acknowledge that), it felt like we were that skater everything was happening too, and we all wanted to knock Eric out hard. The other day I was randomly thinking about when Geoff Rowley says, "You gotta ride for Flip, mate." Bam and the tank was a classic as well.
do a video about proving ground and project 8!
he is getting there....
I have both of those
I can't belive I beat it for every character.... mostly.
It’s such a good game. This was my first game on the GameCube.
this was the first game I beat multiple times cause I saw you had to beat it with every person to unlock all characters.
Best THPS for me. Hit that sweet spot between nostalgia and good modern additions
In THPS3, Bam Margera was introduced in the cast.
My first PS2 game in 2002 and it's still an awesome game.
Guys this game is just absolutely phenomenal I play on expert mode and 0 stats and at the airport in the bottom stairs I pulled of a bs crooked going up a bs crooked going down and impossible out I had been trying for an hour this game with these settings is no joke if you are not perfect with your timing you will fall on your ass so many times I absolutely love the trial and error in doing tricks guys please try it expert mode no stats you will be amazed BTW Great videos rad rat I love your channel you are awesome XD
this is my favorite tony hawk game the music was really good too
I grew up with thps 3 on gamecube and i still cant play well without a gamecube controller
Me encanta proskater 3. Este es mi primer juego que me senté y ha pasado de un trago en un 100% desde la primera vez.
Tony Hawk 3 was such a good upgrade from Tony Hawk 2. I went from n64 to ps2, so it was so awesome. I didn't even know there was an n64 version until I had the ps2 version for a while. So glad I never had the n64 version. Haha. I also didn't really like the THPS2 engine.
THPS3 on Gamecube was my favorite.
You missed the Xbox exclusive character, the skeleton
When you do Pro Skater 4, are you also gonna talk about the PSX version?
He is stupid. It is also on gamecube.
It's crazy man, almost like a Mandela effect, I didnt even know the ps1 version came out. I was so disappointed with the ps1 version of 3 that I just didn't care enough and I was a kid so I couldnt just go to the store whenever. I just never saw it and its insane.
@Game Boy You're stupid ;) He never said it's not on Gamecube.. Rad Rat just mentions the versions he reviewed.. It's also on PS2, GBA, GBC and N64.. but he didn't review those versions either in this video.. so that's why they're not mentioned..
Game Boy hahahahahahhaaha what a well thought out response. Damn, you're even stupider than I assumed
Game Boy lol says the guy who sounds like he just learned what a swear word was. You get real fiesty when someone tells you you're wrong huh?
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 on the Xbox was my first Tony Hawk game ever and I still have fond memories of that game. I guess they really nailed it. For me, the best are THPS3 and THPS4, but I really like all the games released until American Wasteland. After that, they changed it too much and it was a pain in the ass to play.
I like 1-3 equally, they are good in their own ways. 1 really tests your skills without using manuals, two they added manualls but it's a little clunky, and 3 perfected it but maybe a little too easy.
Tony Hawk 3 was great, 4 started getting ridiculous to me. I played it on the GameCube
What about the gamecube version?
Am I the only one who really loves the walking aspects of the newer games?
nice that u did a review on this, i loved it and i only bought it for the xbox and loved it :*
chilly review ;) ~_~
and i think that neversoft did it so well that u can buy that game 3 timez and alwayz have it a lil bit different :D but itz tha same game, that was actually that thing that got me, but itz a shame that Activision destroyed neversoft >(
I wish they would take THPS3, remake it with modern graphics, add real skate brands with their products like decks, trucks, bearings, wheels, etc while making that system a sort of upgrade system you need to earn. Take that and make a whole bunch of real skateparks from around the world. Do the most popular as well as those hidden gems that pro skaters grew up on. I would love to see Woodward. Not the west one. But just add a real mega ramp alongside the mini mega. For characters, give us the good ol classics along with legends like Tony, Caballero, Gonz, etc. But also add modern skaters like Nyjah, Joslin, Cole, Kelvin, Ishod, Zion Wright, etc. Would be sick.
I'm pretty sure THPS3 was my first Tony Hawk game, and I probably got it around its release date. I got my first skateboard shortly after. I blame Rodney Mullen's video clip!
please review tony hawks project 8 Xbox 360/ps3
I only ever played the psx version, theres also alot of pre made "created parks" and alot of them were really good!
i always went to my best friends house (he's my neighbor) and we played thps 3 on PS1 for like 5 hours
Isn't the Oil Rig a level on American Wasteland
is that spaceman spiff flying around the earth in the top right corner?
Yeah, but it's not earth - it's an unknown planet full of gross aliens
touche.
Does he ever play the GameCube versions of these games?
Funny story is my mother almost bought me the PlayStation 1 version of Tony Hawk 3 but she bought me the PlayStation 2 version knowing that the only thing was blood which she didn't care too much about although there were a few curse words in the lyrics but I think she cared too much on that either it was one of the first two games I had for the system when I got it in Christmas only bummer was is I didn't get a memory card day one with my system so I always had to restart or risk my console burning up and keeping it on all the time just so I didn't lose my save because she thought the PlayStation 1 memory card would work for PlayStation 2 games parents and my right
I had 3 on the PSX and it was really great. 2 still holds up as the best game in the series though.
Good review man!
My childhood game was Tony Hawk's underground 2, it was (is) awesome
KreedFilms break on trough to the other side!
I've never been a big video game guy, but I remember getting this game on N64 back in the day. It really sucked. Laggy, glitchy, and slow. Cool to see that it was actually a good game on other systems.
The Ps1 version is more fun. It has that retro charm that the ps2 and xbox don’t have
I'm playing this on PS1 for the first time in years! I used to play it on PC a couple of years ago and I had totally forgotten that that was an upgraded version from the PS1 game, which was kinda disappointing. I still think that on the PS1, THPS2 was better, but the Xbox version of the game is really cool.
Yay! My favorate
I put a million hours into Tony Hawk 3. *Especially* the level editor! Such nostalgia! In your impressions video, I said I was done with it but now.... its time to dust off the PS2. And find a copy of the PS1 version as well.
Now TH4 on the other hand is probably the game I remember the least. That one had driving? And the ability to get off the board? Hm, that might have been THUG.
THUG was the one where you could drive and get off your board.
PerfectTube12 Ah okay. Man, the TH games started to take some weird turns after 3. The ability to get off the board, walk up stairs, and climb stuff was brilliant though.
The games got extra bizarre when they started adding bestiality jokes.
I know you aren't a fan, but please do thps 4 review.
THPS 1, 2 & 3 GOATs, everyone of them.
A translate error at 6:28. I think they want to write "downhill party" in portuguese, but they used the word that means "political party" like the republicans and democrats in portuguese. Maybe Bob Burnquist could have help them, but he was with the Konami guys heheh
nice
I really feel like playing underground 2
THPS3 always a classic
I Have the Best Memories Playing THPS3 on The PS2👍
The oil rig level looks like the level from American wasteland
That's because it is. 😂😂😂
I swear I had this on n64? thats what I remember getting
Yeah, it was on the N64. Last TH game on the 64 IIRC.
7:22 - Check it out!
In thps2 the subway tokens open up the subway wtf
it's the best imo
I had the n64 version it was very good
This has got to be the best one
