I LOVE this movie and was just watching it this morning as I lesson planned. It always puts me in great spirits. I am planning a trip to Vermont to see family and want to visit the locations where it was filmed. Thank you so much for posting this video to help guide those of us who love the movie.
dingoheaven That’s so awesome and couldn’t agree more about this movie!
I will gladly provide all info on how to visit the house and where other spots are located. You are welcome! Thanks for enjoying! Makes it all that much more special.
@@NickP I'd love that info. I live 40 minutes away and was trying to find it
This is a classic 80s comedy and I love watching it wherever I get the chance. Thanks for sharing.
I couldn't agree more. My pleasure, glad to hear you appreciate this 80s treasure!
The Downers bridge scenes were filmed both at that actual bridge and at a "model bridge" setup in a nearby field. The Downers bridge was restored and altered in 2007-08 by VAOT, where the plank floor deck was replaced with a glulam system to increase the loading capacity (reduced the number of floor beams by almost half) and the roof was changed to standing seam. The steel guardrails and signs were added then also. I liked the old design better, but the new design provides improved access and easier/ lower cost maintenance for the town.
And I see what you mean, when comparing the original bridge to the new and improved design.
I had a good friend who lived nearby and was there while filming at the Downer's Corner Bridge. The original plan was to destroy the bridge during filming but the residents of the town promptly put an end to that plan.
The Springfield area is my second home. I spend all the time i can in that area. They say that if you've led a good life, when you die, you'll go to Vermont.
It’s our favorite movie - we do this tour every year and stay in newfane / great work!
That's Awesome! It was our first trip to Vermont, we will definitely be back soon. Thanks a lot!
Bro. You’re awesome for making this video. This is my all time favorite movie. Thank you so much. It’s amazing to see the actual places of filming.
Woody A Wow.. That’s so awesome to hear! Thanks a lot. Glad you are enjoying it. I am a big fan of this movie. There is something special that happens in seeing these places, especially from your favorite films, years later.
One of my favorite movies of all time! Chevy Chase was a comedy genius!!!
They made good on the $50 bonuses. Andy says that it greatly improved their relationships with the townspeople. Lol. Funny Farm is my all-time favorite movie and the Cape Cod is my absolute favorite movie house. Thanks for the tour!
I wanna say my all time favorite Chevy Chase movie is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation I've watched that movie countless times and have been watching this movie with my kids for 18 years now it's a family tradition to watch it in December great video Nick..
West Coast Graffiti Nice haha.. Can’t argue with rewatch value of that great movie. I’ve also lost count myself. That’s def at the top of the list.. Thanks bud!
I've really appreciated your video. I saw that movie ("l'allegra fattoria" in italian) for the first time, a Christmas day, when I was a child. Now every year, during Christmas period, I need to review "Funny Farm", because I love it and I love "Redbud" landscapes. Thank you very much
I remember being at Mill Pond
(also known as Kennedys Pond)
With my brother and his Friend Aaron when the film crew showed up to scout the direction of the car traveling into the Pond.
Interesting fact is The Town of Windsor doesn't allow motorized water Craft on the Pond . This is why in the boat scene you'll notice there's no motor on the boat itself . My brother's friend Aaron actually Got Chevys
autograph that day in 87'. 34yrs since Filming 33 yrs since the release. 😀😁
The boulder scene 😆👏🏼
Nick P Was Here great work. We need to have dinner. I want to hear about your locations and off tape experiences as well.
Michael Cinclair was actually driving an '87 Ford Crown Victoria, but I LOVE this video, and love this movie! Thanks man!!
This is absolutely 💯 the best movie. We have visited Vermont for around 12 years now.... every fall. I love the scene where she's outside... its fall 🍂 and she's writing her writing her book. I to have watched this movie more times then I can remember. Thanks 😊 so much for recording this.
It really is a great one. First visit for me was two years ago. If I go this Fall that will make 3 years in a row… So many good scenes in this classic. Glad to see you enjoyed the video, thanks a lot!
Just visited these places in November and this video was a fantastic reminder to go back and the fun I had. Great job and thank you!
I love this movie so much. Well done, this was really cool to see all these years later.
Thanks so much for doing this. Very entertaining. I think Funny Farm is one of the most underrated films of this generation.
Jeff Cline Thanks a lot for watching and appreciating this video! I couldn’t agree with you more about how underrated this film is.. I think some critics were harsh because Chevy Chase changed up his act a bit for this role. ....I also think it was one of his best performances.
seen the movie in a theater when it came out and dozens of times on tv. still watching it when it’s on, awesome footage 👍
As I watch your video, the beautiful soundtrack from the film is playing in my head- which, frustratingly, has never been released!! Great video, thank you.
Thanks for sharing. Very cool that the owner of the house let you tour the property.
This movie is so good the mail man is my favorite part when he comes into the house
I'm not even sure why but I freaking love this movie so much I've watched it many times and never get tired. So many twists and turns
So awesome. Thanks for sharing. I love this movie😊
Watching funny farm right now. My favorite. I want to go see where it was filmed. It's a beautiful home
This movie is one of my favorite movies.
Funny farm was such a funny and fun film!
These are one of those films that get better with age. It was too overshadowed by National Lampoons movie series.
I grew up in Grafton, and it always bugged me that the Farmers had a mail man, when in reality, there was no mail delivery on that road! 😆
Thank you!❤️
Jumanji was filmed 30 miles from there in Keene Nh, there's a big painting on the side of one of the buildings that still says Parrish Shoes and Beetlejuice was filmed 80 miles from there in East Corinth, Vermont.
Thank you so much! I love this movie! I watched it again yesterday. It always makes me wish I was there!
My pleasure! I’m glad that you really enjoyed it. I love this movie too and this was one of my favorite filming locations visits!
@@NickP nick, I live in Jefferson tx and have some beautiful old homes and history here. Also the largest natural lake in Texas which is also the largest cypress tree swamp in the South. Look us up! I could be a tour guide.
Joshua Hawley That’s great! I’ve been to Austin, San Antonio and Houston. I really enjoyed my visit. I look forward to going back!
Both Fletch movies, and Funny Farm are my most favorite but I love them all!
Wow, this was amazing. I never expected to see filming locations of Funny Farm movie these days. You're a big fan of the movie and I really enjoyed it to discover these places. This movie wasn't necessarily that popular even in 80s, so it makes more even more surprising to see that. Thanks a lot for making it. It's really awesome to know there are people around the world sharing the same old favorite movies like Funny Farm forgotten by vast majority (oh what a pity).
73mordka Glad you enjoyed it.. This has become a classic flick but def under appreciated in its time. I always liked it but it was a change of character for Chase that caught some audiences off guard. I love this stuff ha... Thanks a lot!!
I absolutely love this movie! And I love this property so so pretty and relaxing.. I have also seen this movie at least 20 plus times!!
Just rewatched this video. Such a fantastic job at presenting and editing and hosting. Vermont is so awesome and plan to
Move my family there to raise. Thanks again for doing this.
My favorite Chevy Chase film is a tie between Funny Farm and Memoirs of an Invisible Man.
Your feedback means a lot to me, thank you! That sounds like a great plan to me..Vermont is an awesome place to live and or visit! That's funny, Memoirs of an Invisible Man is in my top 5 favorite Chase movies.. Underrated. I plan on visiting those locations one day.
I could tell you the real genuine excitement you felt visiting. It was contagious watching. Can not wait to see it for myself. Hopefully the property owners will be okay with me visiting. I’ll make sure I ask them. Thanks again so much for the time and effort you put into this show!!
Thanks for filming this and putting it up. There's something wonderful about Funny Farm. You asked: My two Chevy Chase favorites are Vacation and this one. We wound up at a similar place in Connecticut. Thanks again.
That's my favorite guided tour on CZcams I've seen yet, really good work man
@@NickP yeah thank you, I like that your narration is straight to the point, knowledgeable and production quality / camera shots and stability is good. Can't really ask for more as a viewer. Normally for many videos I feel like screaming at the screen because people will rush thru things or generally not put in effort. Anyhow thanks again
Awesome! It's so cool to see these locations today! Looks just as magical as it did in the movie! Great job on the video!
We just got back from vacation in Vermont. I had to take my family to Townshend. Unfortunately, I didn't research the filming locations before we went, so we were kind of bumbling around. We went on New Year's Eve, and it was dead as 4 o'clock. it also was pitch black at 3:00 pm. But there were holiday decorations, and we were standing at the corner next to the Gazebo and Dingle's antique store, unbeknownst to us. But thanks for this video, because I was able to go back and compare pictures.
Gerald Wilkerson Wow, Interesting.. I know what you mean about Townsend, not too much happening there. .. Glad to be of service to you! Vermont is a nice place to visit.
Just watched it tonight. Well made movie. Beautiful home and property. Good video. Chevy Chases best movie.
Super Awesome! Just got finished watching this again and this is superfly fantastic!
Very cool, thanks! Btw, I like your channel profile pic.. BttF is my all-time fav flick!
I absolutely love this movie! And I'm only 23! I've been watching it for the last ten years or more. This is my favorite Chevy Chase movie. The acting was natural, the comedy was superb, and the scenery was beautiful and still is. Thank you for filming the locations for this underrated classic! And here's a couple of my favorite quotes from the movie:
"I hope you're happy Mrs. Critic! It's burning now okay? It's burning! Shit!"
"If I can't make a friend I'll god damn buy one!"
HaHA Awesome! And yes, it is an underrated classic. Well said, greatly appreciate the feedback! "Maillll, Mr Farmer." LOL
What does your age have to do with liking a movie? That's like me saying, " I love the Wizard of Oz and I am not even from the 30s" movies dont care young or old you are. Just as long as you enjoyed it.
@@jlb197736 I only say that because people my age have either never heard of this movie or have heard of it but just don't care to watch it. I mention my age because I'm from a younger generation that actually admires this movie which isn't necessarily the norm. I wouldn't bring it up if it didn't have a reason.
Great video my friend, you did a perfect job with everything in the video ,thanks for making it.
LOVE this movie!!!!!!
Excellent video I asked my wife a few months ago if we could visit this town I really enjoy stuff like this I was diagnosed with cancer recently and am starting to realize that it is the simple things in life that are important family this kind of stuff makes you happy not fancy material possessions so we went to see this house only when we got there we were afraid to trespass as the house was occupied
Wow. I found the location at the end of Fire Pond Rd of the house on Google maps! Watching the movie I envisioned it being not so close to town. I love this movie!!
So cool! All your videos are so well-done! This one should have way more views!!!!
Thank you I needed a laugh I'm glad you took us down memory lane!!! Lol! To the acorn!!!
Awesome video, thanks for making it! My fav Chevy Chase movie has got to be Funny Farm, but I love the Vacation films as well. If you haven’t already you should read the book Funny Farm it’s almost as good as the movie!
I heard they spray painted the leaves on the trees fall foliage colors and that's what caused the trees to die and then the production company got sued and had to truck in new trees and they also got sued because the gazebo didn't have a perminated base so they also had to fix it as part of the lawsuit.
Northern Farmer I heard the same. A lot of interesting stories behind these classics!
We're watching it now! It's the funniest movie! One summer my husband and I went on a day trip and I missed our turn. When I went to the next street we ran into a police officer guiding cars to a parking lot for an event they had going on. As soon as he saw the cop my husband yelled 'traffic control' and we both lost it!!
Watched this a good while ago, now watching Again, great Movie and WOW the scenery ! Would love to see some filmning locations for Christmas Vacation with Chevy. Another classic. Good job Sir !
Would have been fantastic to get a peak inside the Farmer house.
I know it.
You know it.
And yellow dog knows it.
Re: Townshend Common....I remember there being a town quarrel about whether or not to keep that gazebo.
The Culbertson’s, Bud & Betsy, we’re very disappointed that the sale wasn’t going to go through!
Man good job. Watching this now on hbo and I was wondering if the Farmer house was still there today. Beautiful place to live. Thx for the great video.
Love this movie watching it right now so beautiful there wow. Love to go there
Did anyone notice like I did. At the bridge it has a sign on one side that reads weight limit 6 tons. And on the other side it has a sign on the other side of the bridge that says Weight limit 8 tons? Lol that is so funny. Lol
Just subscribed to your channel. Love this movie. What a beautiful area. Thanks and God bless.
Vermont is beautiful, and this movie really is a classic! I really appreciate it. Same to you!
Love the movie, thank you for the great video. Madolyn Smith, I think I’d burn the manuscript for her too. 😂
A great flick, Makes me miss New England, now that I live in Poland
Yes it is...
Oh wow, big move.. New England is mighty scenic. I look forward to revisiting Europe.
i love the tiny humor: WHY WErE you hOnking?? ( Or what were you HONking at??) I've seen movie over twenty times. Who hasn't! Great video, thank you! I guess I never get that line straight cuz I'm laughing too hard!
A scene from the movie "Spies Like Us" was filmed at my town's local drive-in, the "Lancaster Drive-in."
I lived only a half-mile away, across the field, South of where you see the car pull into the drive-in entrance. I remember when the street was completely blocked off by police when this scene was filmed on 'Avenue-H' between (10th st W & Sierra Highway) in the Fall of (1984). The drive-in itself closed just THREE year's prior.
It has LONG since been torn down and the property is now a City Maintenance yard.
ONE of the buildings from the movie (at the drive-in) STILL STANDS. It's what was the old 'snack bar' where the two old guy's walk into and say, "Why don't you ... have a Pepsi"?
To the left of that, is where the actual projection rooms were located, and Sits right in the center of the drive-in itself.
It was REALLY NEAT seeing this movie in a 'walk-in' theater only TWO-MILES from where this scene was filmed. EVERYBODY in the theater went crazy when they saw the sign, "Lancaster Drive-in."
I use to go to THIS theater when I was a kid with my family. The memories It made.
That’s so awesome to have childhood experiences tied to a piece of classic movie history. …And it doesn’t get more movie relevant that that🍿.. I am a big fan of that flick, so funny… I almost got to that location a few years ago. I will get there one day!
If Clark Griswold had a twin brother🚚✉📃
The first Vacation movie is my favorite Chevy Chase Movie, then Caddyshack.
Really nice work man I loved the Film it has such a good comedy. I like your location hunting work 👍. From India
I think that house in Newhart was in Vermont. Yeah that was a great movie Funny Farm. He's going for the record. He's eating the mountain oysters.
I used to love this movie, and the money pit with tom hanks. Two sorta similar movies.
I (Andy) was an extra in Funny Farm. I can be seen 3 seperate times in the fishing derby scene. I am wearing black pants and a green t-shirt.
I love this movie so funny
Well done sir honestly. You shoulda have checked out the Beetlejuice locations also since you were fairly close, to the north in East Corinth. Believe it or not i made the 5K mile trip from Colorado last summer just to see its film locations.Keep up the good work,
Thanks so much! I did, please check out my filming locations playlist. Beetlejuice is there!
😂I lived in that town when it was filmed in Windsor vt
would be pretty cool to know if the current owners of the property have actually watched funny farm from inside that house!
Yes it would be.. I’m going to revisit and try to get inside the house. The property owners are really nice.
Yes, the Townshend gazebo was hit by a 71 year old drunk driver from Connecticut on Jan 22nd 2016. It was soon fixed/rebuilt.👍
I wonder if the guy living in the house now is trying to write a novel, about squirrels of course.
Chevy Chase movie I like them all 42 years old grew up with him actually I was about to watch Spies Like Us after Funny Farm doctor doctor doctor doctor doctor doctor
I love Spies Like Us... Classic... Even Nothing but Trouble lollll... Fletch, Caddyshack etc lollll
@@NickP me to they great all classic movies. I watch them all the time lol
They tore down the gazebo on the common in Townshend today.
It had become unsafe. I believe they plan on constructing a new at some point.
Reminds me a lot of the Beetlejuice town.
Did you ask the owner of the cape for permission ahead of time or did you just show up? If you just showed up, I assume they were friendly? I'd love to go see it - love that house! Beautiful work documenting the filming locations!
It was up a private driveway. I was just planing on getting some shots from the yard area along the driveway, with the possibility for more when a family member drove by. After I explained why I was there, she was very cool. I asked for permission to remain there a little bit and approach the house and she was generously fine with it.
There isn’t a gate or anything, and they are cool with visitors. As long as you are respectful.
Thanks, that makes me feel better to try to approach it. We are right near there and I felt funny...I want to be respectful.
@@NickP upon seeing it in person, I expect my wife and I to react much like Bud and Betsy did when they first laid eyes on it! LOL
Great video! I’m staying in the area this weekend. Is it hard to get access to the home since it’s private. Thanks ! Best movie ever.
Thanks. If the driveway is open, just drive up. I’m saying, if you are comfortable with that idea. The people are very nice.
@@NickP thanks ! We drove up this morning and got to see it! So exciting, the garage was open but nobody outside. :)
I would also like for someone to do a filming location for modern problems... seems like no one has done that movie yet🤔
Just remember, Nick P. When you buy a house, what's in the ground belongs to you, whether it's gold or oil....or Claude Musselman.
What is the name of the lake area/park where Elizabeth gets the funeral bill from the sheriff, and what town is it in?
It’s the Mill Pond in Windsor, Vermont. Right on Ascutney St (Windsor Swim Area). Enjoy!
Funny movie 🍿
Enjoyed the tour of Funny Farm filming locations! I do need to point out a couple errors, though.
1. Michael Sinclair's car (from Huffnagel & Brown) was a Ford LTD, not a Lincoln Town Car.
2. The townspeople who did small town behavior in front of the Culbertsons, DID indeed receive their $50 bonus.
As Andy Farmer noted in the end, that greatly improved their popularity in the town.
@@NickP Don't mean to be a know-it-all. It's just that my wife and I have seen this movie so many times,
we recite lines from it a lot. Like when I say "Mail, Mr. Farmer" , or "Call me Mr. lamb fry", she knows exactly what I'm talking about. (Plus, she had a Ford LTD like the one of Michael Sinclair's that got creamed)
@@mtntime1 No worries at all.. I think you pointed that out in a helpful way. I wasn’t sure about the car at the time, so I should simply said car lol. I actually know many lines myself, and do the same thing haha. Just a real classic, so funny.
@@NickP Another of my favorite's is, after Andy nixed the sale and the Culbertson's stormed out of the
house and were getting back in their car, and the townspeople, (wearing Christmas wreaths!) kept singing
Jingle Bells, pretty aggressively to them, and Bud Culbertson turns to them and yells: OH SHUT UP! Hilarious!
@@mtntime1 Hahaha That’s great ... When Crum Petry shows up at the house and enters with a fresh rum nut pie of the season lol and Andy staring in the background in disbelief.
How could you get lost?! I drew you a map!!!
You said the towns people don’t get their 50.00 bonus but they do. The Farmers weren’t obligated to pay the town the arranged 25k since they didn’t sell the house but Andy does say they made good on all the 50.00 bonuses
Yeah, I know... it was a bad joke because at first it appears they aren’t going to get paid.
I wanna live here
"I know the sound of two pennies being dropped into a jelly jar when I hear it"
Hahaha
