By popular demand, welcome to this Let Her Go Guitar Tutorial by Passenger! I've finally done it! This is probably the most requested song I've had but because of its complexities I wanted to make sure I took the time to make the video as useful as possible and also to show simpler methods of playing that tricky intro. In the video itself i'll be covering 2 different ways of playing the song. When passenger plays the song live he tends to stick to just fingerpicking. The studio recorded version has a combination of the two though.

2. Strummed Version
At the end of the video i'll have a full play-through of the studio version which uses a combination of the 2. I also have a guest vocalist singing on top for context, she's a fellow you-tuber. Check out her youtube channel below :)

You have to push it to the side rather than to down straight with the guitar to follow the natural shape and position of your fungers

@@someoneonyoutube1993 I wouldn't recommend it, then when you play an Eminor, you'll lose your low bass note. Also the G chord would have a new shape. I mean, yes you could technically - but it's up to you.

after breaking your thumb a lot it stops hurting that much. And its good practice for other songs like hey there Delilah which also destroys your thumb
If Fmajor7 hurts your thumb practice the Bare F for a time and that thumb will not hurt at all it will be comfortably numb.
I just don’t use my thumb

I'm a beginner and it's really useful to see the Us and Ds on the screen as well as the diagram of where your fingers should be as you play. Thank you! I hope to try and move on to the fingerpicking later!

Dear @GuitarZero2Hero, this song was at my grandmother's cremation and I loved it so much. Because the whole meaning was right, if I loved her I had to let her go. I looked up how to play it on guitar, and I found this video. It took about 7 weeks until I could get it all the way at the same pace! I just want to say that you are a really good guitar teacher! I don't usually comment but I want to tell you I recognize that this video took a lot effort to make. The most fantastic guitar tutorial! I love the way he teaches every pieces of the song with great structure and it's quite easy to follow for a beginner as well especially to learn the rhythm . Loved following the fingerstyle in details however I modified the rhythm quite a bit. Its easier that way ;) Thank you!!

If you have difficulty using your thumb when playing the Fmaj7 it's helpful to tune the the 6th string up a half step to F. Just be sure to play the 2nd Fret for the G6 and avoid the 6th string for the Em.
