  • Decided to do a quick video testing out the GoPro 12 with the Max Lens Media Mod 2.0 to see how it performed, what benefits/limitations it offered, whether or not it's useful, and ultimately answer the question of "Is It Worth It?" for new GoPro owners out there.

    You have to know why you need it, to ride a bicycle with the camera on my chest in vertical mode you can see the entire handlebar, it suits me perfectly

    I got the max lens mod 2 and realised it's just not worth the dollar.
    The super wide views are just awful with that much distortion.
    Hero 12 without max lens in linear horizon lock is actually the best option overall.
    In 4:3 mode without Max lens it's limited to 2.7k resolution whereas previous cameras had option for 4:3 4k 60.. Just to puch users to buy the max lens mod and enable that 4:3 4k 60.
    I honestly just prefer the hero 12 without Max lens mod now.
    Good video and informative 👍

    Am I seeing it right but it I think it looks sharper with the mod 2.0? Also your face seems to be more in focus with the 2.0. That could be a big deal for vloggers, not having only the background in focus.

      @DigitalTechReviewsTips  Pƙed 2 měsĂci +2

      Yes the lack of HDR is definitely a big trade off. Sorry you didn’t find my video before you bought the Max Lens Mod 2.0.

    btw how durable is the lens itself? would you put a go pro with lens 2.0 in your cycling jersey back pocket without rubber cover or will it get scratches instantly?

    • @DigitalTechReviewsTips
      @DigitalTechReviewsTips  Pƙed 4 měsĂci

      I mean GoPro *says* it’s more scratch resistant and durable than the 1.0 model, but I still have a hard time being rough on any lenses like this that curve out. Cycling jersey back pocket probably wouldn’t be too tough on it though.

    How does it orient the horizon? Does horizon lock have a start point? In other words, does it lock on what it thinks is the horizon when you turn on the GoPro?

    • @DigitalTechReviewsTips
      @DigitalTechReviewsTips  Pƙed 2 měsĂci +2

      It uses a gyroscope to sense the orientation of which way is up or down. Same way you can use your phone to play racing games where you tilt the phone from side to side to steer. So it doesn’t use any image recognition to determine the horizon - it’s all done with sensors.

    I've been considering whether to buy the GoPro 12 or the Insta 360 Pro, which is about a 100 euros more. Now, I've seen the Mod 2.0 is pretty limited, I'll put that saving to good use and buy the Insta instead. Unless GoPro do something groundbreaking after 12, such as great low-light capacity, AI in-camera and removing the paywall of its software, things Insta already do, I feel it's going to suffer.

    I’m thinking about buying it to use it for my stills. I film tandem skydives and don’t really wanna put a stills camera on my helmet! What do you think? Would that work?

    • @DigitalTechReviewsTips
      @DigitalTechReviewsTips  Pƙed měsĂcem

      Are you already using a GoPro camera on your helmet to take stills or no? If not I’d maybe just start with a regular GoPro 12 as I think the Max Lens Mod 2.0 might almost be too wide. (Though I don’t really know what focal length skydivers usually use for a stills camera)

    • @kellerferenc
      @kellerferenc Pƙed měsĂcem

      @@DigitalTechReviewsTips I’m using 2 GoPro 10s one for video and one for stills and I should have a back up camera if anything goes wrong with one of the cameras
 if I get the 12 with the max lens I will have to modify my mount or order a new one that is compatible with the max lens
 I don’t really know the technical side of photography I just know how to fly but I’m willing to learn!!

    • @DigitalTechReviewsTips

      For diving? The MLM2 and GoPro are still waterproof to 5 meters (though GoPro doesn’t recommend using underwater due to image distortion).

    Is it worth the Buy if using motobike videos ?

    • @DigitalTechReviewsTips
      @DigitalTechReviewsTips  Pƙed 3 měsĂci

      Potentially. It really depends on your filming style. If you find yourself using the hyperview and superview options a lot with the standard GoPro it might be worth considering as it gives a less warped look to that. For POV could be worth it.

    • @DigitalTechReviewsTips
      @DigitalTechReviewsTips  Pƙed 21 dnem +1

      Great point actually! Didn’t think about that since I almost never use ND filters on my GoPros (just my shooting style, doesn’t mean you should or shouldn’t) but that is 100% correct: due to the dome shape of the MLM 2.0, users cannot use an ND filter while the lens is attached.
