College Classes: What is English Comp 1? (ENC1101)

- Hey my children! I wanted to make this informative video exposing peeps to ENC1101 aka English Composition 1. This class is often taken by first year college students as a general education requirement. I want to show you guys beforehand what this class is like and what you’ll learn! No need to fret, it’s not difficult, even for an average writer like me.

He recently has placed upon my heart to go back to school, and I'm thinking " but Lord I'm already 32 I feel like its so late " -- and then I read your comment, what you said that you can do ALL things through Christ that strengthens you." That put a smile on my face, every time the Lord tells me to do something, and I begin to have doubts, He always sends me people like yourself to remind me that I can do ALL things through Him and Him alone. Hi!!! I’m back and a year has come and gone. I just finished my 5th semester and in a couple of weeks the Fall semester will start. So, I will have my English Composition 101 class starting in a couple of weeks and thank you again for your encouragement. This Fall semester and next Spring semester are my last semesters so I have only 8 more months to go and I will graduate 🙌🏾 Next month is my birthday month and I will be 61 and I am Sooo grateful for my Student Journey. I’m thankful for your video and am looking forward to this class. I like to write so thank you for being so awesome 💜

I was not taught how to use MLA format in my College English class. We were expected to know it already😅.

I took that my freshman year of high school and now I’m sitting at home trying to relearn and strengthen areas of my writing lol.
I was so scared for this class because I’m going to 10th and taking it for dual enrollment. But your video helped me so much and now I’m actually looking forward to it! The way you explained everything also makes me feel so much more comfortable and less scared. Thank you!

I took all the dual credits I could in high school. It was a great decision, since high school teachers do a better job of explaining than college professors. I took Pre-calculus and Speech in high school for dual credit.
You are absolutely right I use youtube, khan academy, but I haven't tried the writing center yet so I promise myself after every writing assignment I do I will go to the writing center. God bless you bro

Hey, nice video. The class is extremely easy from looking at khan academy. I'm taking dual enrollment I wanted to be challenged at a higher pace i did AP classes and turns out they were mildly easy, should i have taken AP English instead of dual enrollment.

Do you have any book recommendations that would prepare us ?
I would recommend searching for short stories and also Khanacedemy.com to help you with basic writing tips like making a thesis statement. One of my favorite short stories is “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson which shows a true “twist” in storytelling. I also love the book “Martyr of the Catacombs” by Anonymous which is free in google books. Do your research, find some ebooks, and you should be good to go!

Do you have to do a lot presentation in the class.
What a great question! It depends on your professor and what approach they would like to use to help you learn. Some professors/teachers really like peer editing which is where you group together after writing a people. You read other people’s papers and they read yours. You give each other critiques (good or bad) and ask questions. Perhaps you can experience whole class discussions about various topics. And maybe your professor will make you read your paper in front of the whole class. Maybe your professor won’t do any of the above and make learning more individual. It never hurts to ask your teacher what to expect from them and how they teach. And remember, if you’re not learning TELL THEM! If they’re a good teacher, they adjust to your needs

Hi! I actually found this to be one of my easiest classes. You’ll do well if you find authentic and academic research to help support your topics on your papers. The workload isn’t bad, but be prepared to write about something that interests you

In 11th in high school
This class was extremely easy for me as even though Writing is not my strongest suit, my professor guided me through the process. Ask your teacher what they expect of you and what they like to see in papers. You should give it a shot!
