Not astonishing at all. She admitted that she should've just said no, and i totally respect that and agree with her saying that vs always looking to blame someone else for your choices. Stern is what he is and his show is what it is. It's not a secret. Having said that - I remember the interview and it was awful. That they couldn't read the room was shocking to me and I really felt bad for her. Stern will do his thing but the other characters there - some of them seem like real low kind of arrogant scumbags. They're just disgusting.
Heather, how bad was Stern's behavior? Stern did care for Sal's stunt but was wrong not to realize how offended she was. Other than that, what exactly did he do wrong - in this interview? It seems Erica is laying a claim the subject matter was offensive. He stated from the start that is why he accepted her for the interview. He was intrigued and it was not a rumor - it was right out of a news story... It is sad that she was haunted by this interview for years but conjuring up a false narrative is hardly "good behavior"
@@taylorbarista328 i haven't heard of but Stern who i do like even said in his last book that since he went to see a shrink called up he claims everyone who he did offend and apologize some accepted it and others didn't. when i see him doing interviews today he is i think better at it but Stern can also take things too far for his fans. if you remember any of the shit he's done with his own staff he takes things too fucking far with them as well.

I've seen that interview and it was horrible, she was treated with so much disrespect 'since she wasn't an A lister', she was obviously distressed - it was all over her face. Howard knew what he was doing but he didn't care and didn't bother to intervene when Sal and Richard started verbally abusing her.
@Andrew Salter To be fair to whom? Because they were obviously not fair to her. I've been a Stern fan since the 90's, and I've listened to countless of his interviews, from regular people to mega stars, but this interview has always stood out to me as particularly cruel.

Stop it! lol Before going on Howard. Erica did an FHM interview where she said she had nudist parties with her then boyfriend at her house. Howard asked her about it & didn't tell her to make up this story. haha She just regrets putting out her sex parties & got embarrassed. smh

Maybe she didn't liked revealing it, so here, she distorted what happened. I watched that Howard interview before I watched this one. Howard's producers don't ask guests to make up stuff. She did spoke about the nude parties to FHM magazine. Then Howard asked her about it. She began to give details and it doesn't appear to be made up of her imagination. In her mind, perhaps those parties were not overtly sexual as Howard and his crew have thought. . But she then felt uncomfortable and wanted to talk about her movie, while Howard kepr asking her questions about the parties.
With all due respect, she's lying about the Howard interview.

She was interviewed for a magazine article before her appearance on Howard Stern Show where she admitted to having nude and clothing optional parties. So yes....she is lying in this video. My guess is she’s just embarrassed.

She was always my favorite on the show..... and its so refreshing to see an interview like this and get to know that her as a person is so lovely and cool.
Her character did bring humor to the show.
Its mind boggling to me that Sterns career has lasted this long. I remember them making a big deal about his show finally airing in Toronto on Q107. I listened for a week and didn’t laugh once.

She had a bad agent. I remember watching that first interview and thinking she’s too innocent for that show. I wondered if that was the first time she ever dealt with someone who wasn’t completely intimidated by how beautiful she is
I'm pretty sure that Howard Stern gets away with that stuff because he uses intermediaries to do things like exposing themselves to illicit a reaction from a guest. I cannot believe he still has a job after hearing about the shit that he pulls. He is totally enabled and people make so many excuses for his behavior while (correctly) attacking other people who do that stuff. It's unreal.
Yeah he totally plays up the plausible deniability schtick while he's absolutely the guy running the show. You think he doesn't know what's going on? He totally knows and plans it that way.
If the majority support him, you're in the minority my dude. Humans crave drama, always have, always will. Plus celebs have this vibe of being untouchable so people don't see them as regular people.

I never forgot that episode when I saw it on E!. Felt so bad for Erica, especially since I was a huge fan and had a major crush on her!

Howard asking extremely personal questions to people he doesn’t know, and feeling entitled to the information because they’re actors, etc. That’s always been his shtick.
Everybody loves honesty, it's so refreshing and thank you for sharing this. This is definitely going to power a lot of people to just look in the mirror and get real with themselves, there's no shame in that.

My wife and I met her a few years back and I wanted to have a conversation with her, but all that came out of my mouth was gibberish. Lol then my wife proceeded to walk over to her, calm as a cucumber, and had the longest and honest conversation. It was really cool to see and Erica was super sweet and cool to listen to.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen this interview, but where Stern went overboard is when Sal and Richard came in and started talking shit to Erica. Stern is Stern so you have to know what you’re walking into an interview with him. But to see Sal/Richard come in the middle of the interview and start smack talking a guest is really over the line.
Baba booey instructed them to do so and Howard okayed it. Of course, when Erica started crying, everyone turned around and pointed the fingers at those two and Eric herself.
That interview was 100% Stern taking out his weird infantile anger out on what he perceived as an unimportant person.
Just watched the interview. It's disgusting. I like his show but I can't stand the guy himself.

Excellent and a great lesson for younger actors/artists getting into the business. PR can be brutal and that's why some flat-out refuse it and have it in their contracts. But when you are just starting that's not really an option. And some experiences can be traumatic no matter the age you are.
I'm in IT customer support and I got bullied by a coworker at a new job as part of the training. She thought it was funny, cause she was playing a role of an abusive customer, but I was afraid for my job if I would not be able to handle it (with my first baby son on the way)... I was in my late 30s at that time with years of experience behind me and I had to go for a 30min walk afterward to not break down. So yeah, some perspective and empathy are the keys.

I remember feeling extremely bad for her in that interview because he clearly gave the ok for Richard and Sal to come in (they could never come in unannounced) and verbally abuse her for no good reason except Stern was a crappy interviewer to begin with, and obviously didn't know anything about her movie so he had to come up with some bullshit angle.
Seriously, Stern only has one angle, sex and shock value. If you can't give him one of those things he gets bored pretty fast.

As far as Stern, he's done two interviews that made me uncomfortable. One was Emma Caufield and the other was Erica's. With Stern, you know what you're getting. But in those cases, I felt like it was over the top and degrading.

@@mathilde5269 Basically, Howard Stern had a different set of morals back then and was far from politically correct, so every time he got the chance to interview an attractive woman like Erica back then, the show just turned into questions about their sexuality and partners and all kinds of innuendos. I don't remember the interview that well but I know they asked her something very personal about her family and she refused to talk about it, something that Howard hates. So he got two of his "comedy writers" that would do anything for him (Sal and Richard) to block the door naked I think, so she couldn't leave when he tried to get a reaction out of her. I personally find both Sal and Richard very funny but there were times when they went a little far, like liking each other balls and stuff and I don't think they're even gay, so you can imagine the power Howard had over people's mind.

Just watched the Stern interview and I think she's lying about the "nude party" stuff being an invention of the producers (apparently it goes back to an interview in FHM); I think the nude party stuff was/is a real thing she did in her life, but it wasn't as sexual or maybe even sexual at all as the Stern gang was making it. Beyond the nudity thing, I will say that that was a pretty rough interview, pretty much getting mildly-insulting to Erica right from the get-go and when Sal & Richard come out, it gets SUPER-ROUGH. Erica was a bad fit for the stern show, plain and simple.

I remember that show. I was a big Smallville fan and love Howard. That was a typical Howard line of questioning and agreed things got awkward but it wasn't because Howard was being inappropriate. After Richard and Sal came in Howard immediately yelled at them when the interview was over and told them to never do something like that again. He sincerely felt bad about Erica being upset. One of those interviews I'm sure Howard would like to do over as well.
Jeez. You don't get the show. The joke was that Howard encourages his people to cross the line & then plays good cop to pretend to be on the side of the guest. Howard didn't feel back. That was the entire bit.

I met Erica Durance at a comic con. Such a delightful beautiful woman.
I just watched that interview and it's very uncomfortable. The only thing Erica didn't do was say "Howard, I'm very uncofortable, please stop talking about this". But it should have to get to that point. There were many red flags that she was uncomfortable with the way things were playing out. She was visibly bothered, she asked "let's talk about the movie" a few times, and said "I thought we'd talk about other things". The only thing i'm curious about now is whether or not she was told to make up that story.
So Howard got her to say some BS promising that they’d let the audience know it was a joke, but actually deceived his audience by never admitting it was all bs? If that’s true and this lady was my family or loved one I would knock Howard Stern the f-- out.

@@sskoog Regardless, Howard didn't ask her anything about Smallville and as a fan was looking forward to some behind the scenes stories. That was the day I stopped listening to Stern and I was a fan for years up till Private Parts.
There's definitely merit to this sub-thread -- that "Howard's crew are crude and twisting the interviews to their own puerile purposes" -- showing genitalia, sex questions, etc. -- I can't dispute that -- what comes off fishy here is Erica launching into a "they wanted me to make up some nudist swinger Westport story" fib, when, in fact, they were laser-focused on that FHM article and didn't actually want her on-air for any other purpose, TV work or otherwise -- she'd be more truthful to say "They were only interested in this 5-months-ago thing I don't want to rehash, and not any of my other career activities," rather than claiming fabrication or coercion.

I had never seen any of Howard Stern’s interviews before. Just went to go watch Erica’s interview after watching this..... my blood is boiling and my heart is racing from pure anger. Erica, you really couldn’t have done anything different. It was all on them. Truly disgusting how long they dragged on with the same topic after you clearly wanted to move on and were getting uncomfortable after answering like 60 questions about it. And the bullying and name-calling and objectifying... they did not treat you like a human being. And then acting all innocent at the end, as if they couldn’t figure out why you would be upset?? I wish the best things for you in life, and hope you never have to experience an interview situation like that ever again. ❤️

I was thrown off by how she made it all about shaming her family. Erica showed her tits in House Of The Dead in 2003 when she was about 25. If she was really so concerned about bringing shame to her family, I doubt she’d have shown her tits, and if that didn’t bring shame to her family, I highly doubt being bullied on Howard Stern would do it.
I have no idea how she was raised and I’m not pretending to know anything about her family or her personal life (or that FHM article either), but all I’m saying is that what she said feels disingenuous to me. I have no doubt that Howard Stern was a complete asshole to her and likely made her feel like shit, but I don’t believe that she was worried about bringing shame to her family. If those swinging stories and nude parties or whatever we’re actually made-up like she says, then she still agreed to lie on air. Either way you look at it, lying in an interview about having sex parties, or actually having sex parties and publicly announcing it, is going to bring shame on a person’s family. The way she made herself into the innocent victim makes her seem extremely stupid IMO.

Maybe she didn't liked revealing it, so here, she distorted what happened. I watched that Howard interview before I watched this one. Howard's producers don't ask guests to make up stuff. She did spoke about the nude parties to FHM magazine. Then Howard asked her about it. She began to give details and it doesn't appear to be made up of her imagination. In her mind, perhaps those parties were not overtly sexual as Howard and his crew have thought. . But she then felt uncomfortable and wanted to talk about her movie, while Howard kepr asking her questions about the parties.
With all due respect, she's lying about the Howard interview.

In a contract it just says "Artist has to reasonably participate in up to 3 days of advertising and publicity in connection with each season of the show". You dont see how that really affects people until you hear stuff like this...

Stern knew-he has control over ever aspect of his show and nothing would happen without his approval. He sees himself as a "nice guy" when really he's a bully. And yes he's smart and that's why he always gets away with abusing women on his show. The fact that his cronies were basically threatening to expose themselves is something I have no doubt he suggested or at least gave the okay for. Him comforting Erica afterwards just makes it worse. Also Michael R is plenty famous-he's just not a woman Stern can humiliate and bully so he's not interested.

To go on Howard Stern thinking you’re just gonna talk pleasantries and about your movie debut is crazy to me. I understand why she was upset about being threatened with male flashers. But, the lesson here is always listen to your gut. If you know anything about Howard in the 90s, you know that agreeing to go his show was agreeing to go on to a sexually-themed show. It was so debauched omg. If you think he’s bad now, you have no idea what he was like in the 90s and the early 2000s. Omg

I remember it. It was cringey af. I quit watching Howard shortly after because he was just a mean person.
He used to be a DJ here in DC back in the 80's. He had a call in show and he was rude af. Some young girl called in and shared how she was depressed, and Stern told her to kill herself. That is when I stopped listening to him. It never ceases to amaze me that so many people go on his show and seem to like him.

I dont believe her. She said herself in the Howard interview that the nudist story started from a magazine article she did, and she started it. I just watched the Howard appearance again, and I think she got mad because when Howard drilled down about how it works, she basically had to lie because shes not really a nudist, she just said it for clout and attention, but when Howard asked her about how it all works she had to lie and make things up and she got uncomfortable.
At one point in the interview, both Howard and Robin, said they had doubts about if its really true, and they both said it was gross to have naked people sitting on your expensive furniture. She started to get uncomfortable because it was becoming clear that she lied about the nudist story, and Howard and staff were grossed out by it.
