I think for me what that I stopped doing is not in terms of product - but more so lifestyle. I stopped "collecting". For me, it was time consuming. The hunt, the research, return (if you don't like it or some sort of problem with it). I'd rather spend my time doing something else. I barely shop but still enjoy watching videos like this from time to time
👍 👍 really well said! I feel the same now that I’m a bit older / in my mid-30s. I still enjoy buying something special occasionally but shopping is not a hobby for me.
I love that you said "There are less out there than we think" and I think that's huge! Social media makes it look like everyone is rocking a new, lux bag. When in reality, that's just not the case. It's easy to get caught in a lux tunnel and lose sight.

I’m a fan of all your videos but this might be my favorite. I’ve been obsessing over Celine for a while ESPECIALLY that drawstring tote, specifically because of all of the issues you mentioned with with the Neverfull. An alternative to check out is Longchamp. My Mom has two, a smaller size she uses as a purse and a larger one for a tote and uses both a lot. Price-wise, Longchamp won’t break the bank and they give you a lot of bang for your buck. Thanks for the vid and the ideas😉

What a time for you to upload this! I have always wanted the half moon bag from THE ROW but I could not afford it at all but I found an alternative which is the AESTHER EKME Demi Lune bag and I am getting it! I am also eyeing another similar bag from OSOI which is a fairly affordable brand.
A contemporary bag that has Chanel flap vibes is the Tory Burch Kira Ruched medium shoulder bag. It’s quilted lambskin. There are three sizes and the medium is hard to find. Nordstrom had it on sale a couple of weeks ago. I bought it and I was surprised how beautiful it looked.
The perfect alternatives for the Hermès bags imo: The Lady Dior for the Birkin (like you mentioned) and the Céline 16 for the Kelly. The Triomphe is so classic and chic.

I think the Dior Caro bag is gorgeous. I have the Chanel medium classic, but I have seen the Caro and it is a great alternative!
Glad you mentioned that some Hermes stores force you to spend two times the bag value in order to get offered the bag. Everything I bought up till now have not brought me happiness. I almost felt pressured to buy stuff because 1. The stock and options are so little so you can never get what you want 2. My store is so small and the competition is very high so they pressure you to spend twice the value of a bag to even take you seriously.
I agree with feeling pressured to buy things, and these are large amounts of money we’re talking about but you only have like 10 minutes to decide. I actually avoid going into Hermes stores, unless I know I have a certain amount of money saved that I can and would want to spend in case they “offer” me a bag (hate the term being “offered” a bag…). I’ve went once a year in the last 2 years and don’t plan on going for a while.
Totally 💯 wouldn’t do it ..If you think about it … it’s so stupid ! I’ll never see the hype in those madame bags they hold over your head like you’re winning a prize then charge you for it , it makes no sense , but everyone’s taste is different .

I don’t get to use the bags that I already have ,so I’ve decided to stop collecting for a while until I start using them . Covid has just messed things up .. like I work from home most of the time now .
It's a bit of an obvious choice because the shape is so similar but I would still pick the Sac du Jour over the Birkin. Hermes quality is better for sure but YSL does a decent job.
I have a Chanel Executive Cerf Tote and got that for around $2k 10 years ago. I actually think that’s a more functional smart work bag than the birkin. Although agree with you that the quality of the Birkin must be amazing
I love classic flaps too but yes I won't think I will buy another one anymore. I buy the Saint Laurent Sac De Jour as alternative to the Birkin. Its better actually with strap its easier to use. I love the triomphe too! But for some reason I keep holding back on Celine bags xoxo

I wanted the classic flap for years but I couldn’t justify the price and used prices are still so steep. A few months ago I ended up buying a preloved large chevron quilted flap from 2017 for less than half the price of a small classic flap! It’s not a classic but it has the look of one and it’s the same size as the medium so it scratched the itch of wanting one. I recently sold my neverfull mm after only wearing it twice since I got it in 2018 so no regrets. I wish I would have purchased the pm instead but the prices have gotten so high that I’ll either look for it preloved or look for an alternative if I ever want it.
Polene has such amazing leather for a good price point and it is understated too
I have the black chanel classic double flap in ghw and the black jumbo single flap in shw and I think there is another alternative: I was super positively surprised how much I loved using my black ysl sunset in ghw. I think it is a great chic alternative to the chanel classic flap bags.
I think I even prefer the strap dop of the ysl sunset over the chanel classic

Hermes Birkin or Kelly are beautiful bags but the price just makes my stomach hurt. It’s too much for one bag if you get it in the pre loved market, and “the game” it’s a turn off. So thank you for posting this video!
I think a good alternative is the Fendi peekaboo, it’s a classic shape very feminine. I’d like to get one sometime. The lady Dior too.
Gucci’s Jackie 1961 is on my wishlist. I’ve never owned a Gucci Marmont but I think it’s a good alternative to Chanel CF without the price tag. The trend has passed but it’s still a nice handbag.
I prefer a Chanel CF bag above all those, but there are good alternatives! Happy Holidays!

I agree! I have cf but I will totally consider a Caro bag if I want to add an other bag of this style. It’s just that Chanel comes out with so many colors. 💕
Agree, I think Dior is so underrated, they put so much effort in their store displays, Christmas window displays and the staff are nicer - you actually get the luxury experience going into a Dior store, you don’t really get that in Chanel and Hermes anymore (not the super busy stores in London at least!).

For me, it’s a real turn off when I see a bag coming and going. I do love the quilting on the Chanel bags, but the most important thing for me is quality of materials and construction.
Last night I was looking at the Faure La Page website. They have some fabulous totes!
I personally believe if you like the Chanel classic flaps and do not like the price point, try mulberry lily or top handle lily. I have one and planning getting at least 3-4 more. They don’t have quilting but the leather is beautiful and come in two different sizes . It’s a good quality bag for the price and to me at least, I think it gives the same addition to my outfits.

Same! I just got 3 for Christmas and spent yesterday and today cleaning and conditioning my entire collection, and I didn't realize I have 16 luxury bags, all from LV, Gucci, YSL, and one from Karl Lagerfeld. I got so caught up in the consumerism and collection of them all that I lost sight of what actually makes me happy, so I am also making 2023 my No Buy Year. It really is insane that we see all of the luxuries on social media and keep getting sucked into The Next Luxurious Thing, but really, with 16 bags, I should be content. I should have been content 15 bags ago, to be honest. Here's to being mindful of ourselves and our Fast Fashion/Luxury Consumption. 🥂

Hola Lou! My LV speedy b hardware tarnished about 6 months after purchasing it :( Did this happen to you? Do you think LV would be able to replace it?
They'll replace it, but one of two ways: if it is a manufacturer defect, they will do it for free. If they determine that it is not, you have to pay the cost. I recommend downloading the LV app and setting up a repair - you have the option to either get a phone call or do a video chat with a repair specialist and they can give you all the details on the repair. I hope this helps!
£7500 for a chanel medium classic flap is insane. Although I remember thinking that when I paid £3800 for it a few years ago. To me nothing is comparable, it’s iconic. I’d like another one but there’s no way I’d pay that, I’d get it pre loved. If it was my first I’m not sure. I remember thinking at the time £3800 was so much money but it was THE bag I wanted and it would go up further in price, so I should get it. They will be £10k in a few years. Do people who don’t have one now feel the same or would they buy pre loved I wonder.

I wear them daily! I do rotate my bags often but the one that gets the most use is my black classic flap. I would say 2-3 times a week! And wear is perfect:) some creases from opening and closing but that’s about it

I’m done spending thousands on bags. I have plenty and don’t need to spend any more
I go to Chanel site from time to time but just can’t justify spending that much money. I feel investing in branded jewelry is probably smarter investment. I can easily pass them on to my kids without much wear n tear. There’s a race going on for expensive designer bags, thanks so social media. But at the end of the day these designer bags give a few minutes of purchase satisfaction but I wouldn’t call it happiness. Just my opinion….
