My favorite new world tarantula! Huge, robust, tough, always hungry, always outside, cheap, easy to keep, easy to breed. So much cooler than Theraphosa or Pamphobeteus imo. I got a 15 years old female salmon pink! Bought her back in 2005 as a tiny sling. She's a beauty and can be seen on my channel!
I have a tiny little savage in a dram vial right now. She has to be around 1/4 inch but I decided to feed her a tiny mealworm with its head crushed. It was still spasming so she ripped it in half then paraded half of it around her enclosure before eating both halves. I love her she lives for the kill lol.
I guess im asking randomly but does any of you know a tool to get back into an Instagram account?? I somehow lost the login password. I would love any help you can give me
I’m loving my LP. I’ve had her about 3 years, got her at about 1.5”, now she’s about 6-7” maybe. Super aggressive, lots of fun to feed, and she knows she’s big so she never hides, like you said, since she was 2-3”. Best $20 I’ve ever spent in the hobby.
My Lasiodora Paranybana opened it's burrow up the other day after a few week hiatus. I was shocked because the whole was 3 times bigger than in the past. I looked in, finally having a clear view, and it was HUGE. At least double if not triple the size from the last time I got a good view of it. It is rather exciting.
Thanks for this video Tom!! I finally got a LP sling yesterday. Going to rehouse it tonight. I finally convinced my local pet shop to put the scientific names on their tarantulas. Their prices are still high but sometimes I can get a good deal. They even put the day the sac was dropped on the slings. Love the podcasts. Thanks for everything you do for the hobby!
I'm a recovering arachnophobe. My first 2 slings were a GBB and LP. For me the GBB was a massive 1 inch spider, and the LP was a big 3/4 inch spider. I got them 2/10/22. I've had no problem growing with my tarantulas because of videos like this. The last 2 molts for the LP were 4 and 5 inches. Safe to say she's 6". Just make sure you're calm and respectful of those hairs.
I have one walking around my house right now. Got out through an airhole. Never have I kicked myself harder for not listening to my gut. I just hope I can find the precious little cherub!
Will do, I was a mess when I realized it. I swear it climbed on me while I slept the night it(yet to be sexed) escaped, because I awoke feeling some definitive urticating hair action. I won't give up!
For future reference, towels are a lifesaver. Only ever had 2 escapes in my experience, last one was only about an inch at time of escape. Try to keep an eye on it immediately as it bolts. I took 10 seconds too long realizing what had happened and though I saw the direction it went, it was impossible to find even after tearing the room apart. At this point stringing a towel underneath any doorways in the room atleast keeps it contained. After a couple days I was able to find the little bugger bundled up into one of these towels. A small space heater along with slightly moistening the towels may help attract the escapee as well depending on room conditions. Good luck! Hope you find it!
When I rehoused my Theraphosa stirmi I was cleaning out the dirt from her old house got hair on my hands and some how my chest and It was a living hell for 2 weeks.
LP was my 2nd T. You can always depend on it to eat regularly up until premolt. Mine is pushing 3.5" after a year of growth. Premolts have become longer though. At 1st, this LP was molting every month. I water alternating corners and it doesn't care. I do know that it absolutely HATES water dishes. It will flip them or full them within minutes of refills
Yeah, they have NO problem eating. haha And you're getting great growth with yours! Yeah, as you could see in this video, mine like to tear into the water dishes. lol
lol my first in-person experience with tarantulas ever was with one of these beauties, cleaning out her old enclosure for a bit of a terrarium swap around. got a shed load of the urticating hairs all up my arms and in my throat, was a nightmare for about a month but i still think they're incredible and i'm hopefully getting one as a pet soon.
Something I've learned to do, is vacuum after doing rehousings. I do some of my rehousings on my bed with a foldable table on top of it. I had a rehousing with a hair kicker, and waking up the next morning was painful. Vacuum and wash your clothes.
I probably should have mentioned that I vacuum after the rehousings, as we do them on the dinner table. I also wash the table off. Yeah, I would NOT want to sleep in the hairs! haha Thank you!
Love my LP's! My girls are such sweethearts, no hair kicking, calm enough to handle. Pairing up atleast one of them with the MM this weekend, fingers crossed for a whole butt-ton of babies soon! Love your videos Tom. Keep up the good work.
Hey, Web Browser! Hope all is well! Yeah, mine have all been pretty laid back. Best of luck on the pairing! I was thinking about pairing mine, but I'm not sure. haha Thank you!
Hi Tom. Another great vid you have. I am touched that you have personally answered my questions or comments. I have a junior LP. well its 1 and a half. Not sure if its male or female yet. I am going to binge watch all your vids starting tonite. Take care Tom.
Thank you for this video! I have 2, male and fmale, which I hope to pair one day. Male (Milton) is absolutely insane! Super skittish, threat postures, actually hops around enclosure in a fit of rage! Female (LP #2) is an absolute sweetheart. Has kicked hairs maybe twice, usually very chill. I love both of them! They should both be ready for breeding after next molt hopefully.
My lp is one of my favourites in my collection since she just sits out all the time and isn't bothered when people are around. She molted nearly four weeks ago and is about 6.5-7 inch but since then just refuses to eat, hopefully she decides its dinner time soon.
Hi, Jonny! This one molted again after this video, and she is easily one of my favorites. Her molt was 8.35", so she has to be pushing 9 now. They can take quite a few weeks to fully harden up when they are that size. Mine was at about the 5 week mark when she started to feed again.
Your passion for teaching and spiders really shines through your videos. Thank you for all that you do. You've been a huge help to me as a newer keeper. 🖤🕸
Hey Tom, tnx for adding our fotos. Girls were so dissapointed not to see them with the others. At first thry did not want to look ferther. THEN saw them near the end. You made their week. Tnx. (Also picked up a semi/adult today)
Oh my God...I'm so sorry for not warning you!!! I had the video done when you emailed me, so I included them towards the end. I feel terribly! I thought it would be cooler to have them be the only ones during the outtro. UGH. I'm so glad that it ended well, but I should have given you a heads up!
@@TomsBigSpiders Haha, no no the girls were super happy. Already said that u must have missed em, or email did not arrive. But then they saw it and were super super happy. Could not believe that their names were on the big CZcams video's. hahaha
I've just had 2 new slings cause I lost my juvenile female LP too a bad moult 1 is a LP and the other is an A geniculata both absolutely tiny 1cm if not smaller they are the smallest slings I've ever owned they both had there 1st meal today a cricket drum stick each just glad they are both quick growers awesome video Tom.
Hello, Wayne. Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear about your girl. That's terrible. Yeah, I'm not going to lie...the little slings freak me out a bit. haha But, like you said, they will grow quickly. :) Thank you so much!
Fab video! Those hairs! 😱 I’ve got 2 now, a tiny sling I got yesterday and juvenile that I’ve had for a while now :) The juvie has buried itself for now so I am assuming it’s going to moult soon, before it used to spend a lot of time sat out at the hide entrance.
Thank you, LoveWolf! Yeah, the hairs aren't just unpleasant...there are a LOT of them. haha Yeah, mine all burrowed as slings, and the juvies would outgrow the behavior a bit. Still, they would go underground during molts. Once the hit about 4", all of mine sat right out in the open. :)
Tom thank you for everything you do. I had an experience a lot like yours. LP was my first Slingbecause I heard they get big and I put it in a small enclosure not too wide but very deep with a lot of substrate because I heard they like to dig. But it was only .75 inch maybe!? It borough down to the bottom and I got very scared. I knew not to dig it out but I spotted some mold and didn’t want it to spread. I ended up digging out the enclosure bc I didn’t want the risk. I put it into something much shallower with better cross ventilation. I believe a 3-5 oz deli cup w maybe an inch of substrate. This enclosure worked out soooo much better I was able to keep track of the sling while giving it subtrate to dig a hide. And now as my sling has molted 3-4 times it’s about 3 inches even at this small it seems to be confident and sit right out in the open. Idk why bc ive heard of slings still burrowing at her size but I think shallower subtrate as a youngster made her a more courageous specimen? Maybe this is normal as you say LP are laid back. No matter tho I love her. Feel free to use my comment in the podcast my name is John W or just spiderclaw haha
Hello, John! Yeah, for years I heard that 16-32 oz deli cups were the perfect enclosures for slings. However, I've found that in some cases, they can offer a bit too much room. Sounds like you had the same situation I've had many times before! Thanks for chiming in!
Oh this is perfect, I was given a lovely Lp that my friend named Rosie. Really want to get her rehoused and wow she's ferocious. An absolute treat, I am not easily captivated by tarantulas, but I wouldn't mind finding her a MM one day.
Tom Moran // I've actually cupped her no problem a couple of times, but she's in a big exoterra tank that is as tall as it is wide and finding an appropriate container is troublesome. I'm up in Canada so I'm not even sure if I could order one of these awesome enclosures. We don't have the container store or hobby lobby up here.
Having one of these come as a "Freebie" with my order. Thanks for the information. Sounds like mine will be tiny when it comes (1/3 inch they say). That intimidates me more than dealing with an adult, mainly because of picturing babies being more delicate. So researching like crazy till he/she comes.
You are the reason I've been fascinated by these amazing creatures for the past 6 months. I actually found your website before your CZcams channel while chasing an internet rabbit hole. Now, I'm about as deep as I can get without keeping tarantulas myself. That means it's time to get a spider right? After months of discussion (and some pleading), I've finally convinced my husband that getting a T is indeed a great idea. The L. parahybana is going to be my first. Thank you for all the work you do for the hobby! You're just seriously great!
Hello, Anjelica! Thank you so very much! :) And I love that you found the website first. The CZcams channel was originally a place to put of videos I needed for my website. haha Yes...it is definitely time for you to get a spider. haha You've done the research, convinced the husband, and now its GO TIME. haha Thank YOU for chiming in! :)
Got mine 2 weeks ago, love her. She burrowed strait to the bottom. Thanks for the info as always. And hell yeah on the Amon Amarth jacket. Going to see them in Atlanta in November.
This is another of those "Hobby Classics" that I've skipped in favour of getting Brachys and other "Pet Rock" species. As much as I would love to have a giant T on display, I do not have the space to accommodate a 10 Gal tank. But something to think about in the future. Stay safe and thanks for sharing :)
Bahahahaha! Everyone seems to have their own list of hobby classics. Maybe someday, I'll do a list of the ones I think everyone should own at one point (I think I might have already done a podcast on it!). Yeah, I keep telling Billie that we are going to need a bigger house...mostly for my spiders. I hope that you are well! Thank you!
Thank you Tom... You have now totally convinced me that my desire for a Salmon Bird Eater is absolutely doable! Thank you so much because I've been going back and forth for so long, only wanting what's best for my new friend! Now I know it can AND WILL BE DONE🙏🏼.. I LOVE YOUR VID'S SO KEEP EM COMING CAUSE THEIR AN AWESOME SOURCE OF MUCH NEEDED INFO! BE WELL & ENJOY QUARANTINE!! 🙋
Beautiful tarantula, I have one and need be I hold my tarantula with work gloves to avoid the hairs when need to handle. They are lovely spiders to have.
I watched this video before i got my juvenile LP and she's lovely! I love watching your videos and listening to your podcasts! What's your opinion on moisture requirements for these guys? Thanks in advance
Hello, Neon! As slings and juveniles, I give them some moist substrate. As adults, they can do fine on dry with a water dish. That said, I do periodically make it rain in my adults' enclosures.
Another great video 👍. Thanks for all your teaching me. I'm getting a Juvenile Lasiodora parahybana next week so this has been great. I don't react to my Brachypelma Emilia's hairs but won't chance my Lp's lol xx
I’m currently in the middle of building my exotics room (snakes, skinks, and Ts) and I’ve been wanting a T. Blondi SO BAD but I want to have a solid adult enclosure prior to getting one. So today I brought home an LP sling. She’s a spunky little thing and I can’t wait to watch her grow. I’ve got a terrarium ready for every stage of her growth. I can’t wait to compare the fun feeding of these guys compared to my G. Pulchra who likes to parade her food around her enclosure and she’s not even quite a juvenile yet. 😂
You are a life-saver Tom! I ordered a GBB sling that I received today and I had watched all your videos about her so that I would be prepared. But....I got a tiny LP sling as a freebe and I had not gotten a chance to learn about them. I got right on the computer, went to this site knowing that I would get the best info on this tiny baby. Thank You so much!!
I have had a bunch of them over the years. They are pretty non problematic, besides from their terrible hairs. But very easy to bring up from slings. Mine grew pretty fast. Not like A geniculata or P cancerides, but not far from them
This seems to be one of those species where a couple extra degrees can make a lot of difference in growth rate. I keep mine in the 70s most of the year, and they've grown at a medium pace.
Amazing video Tom as always!!!! I thank you so much for what u provide keepers seasoned and novice alike! I have a 5 inch female and she is a stunner..attitude for days. The o Philipinus I got from you are all melting and doing awesome!!!! I can not thank u enough Hoping u r well andrew
Hey, Andrew!!! Great to hear from you, bud! Thank you so much! Sounds like yours is quite sassy. :) And SO glad to hear the O. philippinus are doing well! Hope you and the family are doing great, bud!
We are all doing better than expected to be life is going well and who wants to talk about this beautiful weather!!!!! I hope that you have some amazing times with your family!!!! Thank u for all the things you do for this hobby
Once again, amazing video. I needed this... My 4 quarter inch slings grew to 1/2" in 2 months. I feed them 2 pinhead crickets per week and keep them at 70°F. As a noob, I imagine this is fast growth in the tarantula kingdom.
Hello, Paul! That's not bad growth at all! :) Some folks report that theirs reached 4" in year, but mine all grew much more slowly than that. Thanks so much!
Again, Another great video Tom. I raised 4 of these from tiny slings ,But i only kept 1 of them after i changed jobs. but i love them and would highly recommend these T's.
Just rewatching some of your videos on species I keep. I have 3 LPs now. I bought one for $15 canadian and then ended up getting 2 more as freebies in my next 2 tarantula orders and I love them all. They are really great spiders. Mine are growing kind of slowly but steadily. Not as fast as I expected though. Ya hear some stories lol..
Hi, Samantha! I used to feel kind of "meh" about this species, but I love mine now! And yes...I found the same thing. Mine definetly did NOT grow like weeds. It took them quite a while to reach 7+ " .
Yep. I jumped back into the hobby with this species. Will say mine has been chill.. Mostly. But as you mentioned, Tom, the hairs are very itchy. Thanks, Ben.
Awesome video!!! I I have one LP she/he was my 3d species after my gbb and lasiodorides striatus. Mine molted this week and needs a rehouse. He/she is still a sling but I am so excited to set it up in a big enclosure eventually!
Great video! My LP is still a small sling, had her about two months now and she's molted twice already. I actually really enjoy the species so far, even being as small of a sling she's fine taking down small crickets, she's growing at a decent rate and her little bulldozer habits are adorable. I can't wait until mines a big beautiful spider this one.
i just bought myself a Young Adult as my First T. i'm a bit skittish as to how it's gonna be once it's here.the research has been done the material is all here so im keeping my fingers crossed and hopefully this will be the first of many that i will be getting ^^ bless you mate love the vids learned a lot from you and a bunch of other keepers. im not really afraid of spiders but the size does trigger my blood pressure to rize up xD much love keep rocking it ^^
Hi, Steven! I'm sure that you'll do just fine. Not only is this species VERY hardy, but they are usually pretty well behaved. Just make sure to give it some room so that you don't have to rehouse for a while. Good luck...and thank you!
@@TomsBigSpiders bless you mate! If you got any extra Tips aside from the size of the enclosure. they're always welcome. atm I got a 20" enclosure here that should keep Him/Her happy for a while got gloves and goggles aswell for the urticating hairs because i can't afford myself to have itching and blistering for a week or 2. i'm ordering a 10gallon aquarium when she outgrows that one so she can go on a journey ^^
Have you ever considered getting a small handheld vacuum for when doing this sort of rehousing . Like an extractor in labs, it would kinda suck the hairs and not the spider if you connect a small hose and that way you suffer less those urticating hairs when they go flying. Just a suggestion, probably it’s a bad idea.
Actually, that sounds like a really good idea! haha Unfortunately, I made the hair issue worse in this video by lifting the cardboard up for the camera. That was not the best idea... haha Thank you!
Now that I've witnessed my little GBB molt, I plan to make this species one of my next few additions. That's a very impressive spider, much different than my other two species.
I was quite fortunate with my two LP's. My oldest has only kicked hairs once during premolt and she's bold but not skittish. I don't handle my T's but with her she's quite comfortable to be handled and can sit in hand calmly. She's readily climb onto me and do a walkabout lol. My second one doesn't like the feel of my skin and while bold avoids my hand, she is also quite the hair kicker during premolt. my favourite big species.
Hey Tom. I've been watching your videos for a year now. Great education and always learning from you. Been watching you with the Simply Limeaid bottle. Two tricks for you if interested. Pull stickers if for better view, you already knew that, but use WD40 to take off the residue then soap and water to rid the mess afterwards. Second, you have been using cardboard to close off the big side. Instead cut off the bottom an inch, then you can invert it back into the bottle as a lid. Perfect fit. Hot glue handle for easier usage. Hopefully something new but thank you for teaching me always.
Thank you so much...I truly appreciate that. And awesome ideas, bud! Thank you so much! I use cardboard as it often acts as a shield for my hand and I can use it to scoop under the tarantula to get it into the catch cup. I just find it convenient. I used to have a container with a lid that I could put under it (much like your design), but I found that it would catch and couldn't be used to the direct the spider the same way cardboard can be used. Just my personal preference, though. And that's GREAT to know about the adhesive...thank you!
One of my first two! Mine was the freebie on my original order from FNT. Such a great species, and they DO grow fast! My little 1/4" sling is now easily 1.25 - 1.5 in just over a year. VORACIOUS EATER! Thank God, not very kicky...yet.
thank your very much for this useful video. im still researching on how to go forward with my lp juvie and this helped a ton. mine is a real sweethearth and im looking forward to cricket burrito tomorrow :)
Hi Tom, nope, not asleep. Allergies going crazy and all allergy meds knock me out. So I fell asleep very early. At least you know what I do when everyone else is asleep...watch you and Billie. Love and Hugs
Heck yeah, 💜 love my LP. I moved my 4inch juvenile to 10-gallon enclosure- probably too soon (I know) but in her old enclosure she was always out wandering around. I love watching her move so I gave her more space to do so. So far she only uses half of the enclosure 🤣🤣
She’s beautiful. How old is she? Haha I love the cricket Brito they make. Mine is a 1 year small juvenile right now. It was extremely tiny sling when I got it. I could barely see it.
Hello! She's around 9 I believe? Hahaha I love when they roll up all of the crickets together! They start off so tiny, but they put on size pretty quickly. Thanks for commenting!
I’ve got a suspected female coming next Wednesday from a reputable seller here in the uk, the LP is around 6in leg span and I’m housing her in a Bio Active Exo 60x45x30cm filled up over halfway with substrate, I’m so excited but saying that my adult female Acanthoscurria gen has a 7in leg span lol, great video once again buddy 👏👍
Hey Tom. Long time watcher, first time commenter. This isn’t related but my avicularia avicularia is showing signs of DKS..it’s been a sad couple of days. Thank you for being our source of educational material for the hobby. What you do doesn’t go unappreciated.
I only got it less than a week ago. I personally have not exposed it to any chemicals. But there’s no knowing what happened to it prior to me picking it up.
They are awesome spider but I agree 💯 about the hair. Mine really don't kick much so far but when I have rehoused her I get a little itchy afterwards and it's no fun at all. They are gorgeous T's especially right after a molt. Tyfs God bless you
Hello, Debbie! Yeah, I don't think people give the hairs as much respect as they deserve! My latest podcast will discuss this a bit. Thank you so much! I hope that you and yours are well!
Great video, I wish I picked up a sling when I had the chance... Next time for sure.. The hairs I’m already getting more and more allergic, I think I’ll wear a hazmat suit lol
Hello, Meagan! So sorry for the delay! Ugh. I worry about the hairs as more years go on. I never want to get to the point where I can't work with new worlds.
Tom Moran no you’re fine! I ended up finding a sling for 35 bucks.. so I’m happy! I’m worried about the hairs as it gets bigger. I am the same, I worry I won’t be able to keep any new worlds soon as well.... eeeek!!
Sorry for the delay, Angelo...I missed this comment! Some spiders won't eat dubia. Also, if you crush the dubia's head before dropping it in, it will usually wander around a bit but it won't burrow.
Hey Tom I hope you and your folks are all doing well and staying safe. I Love my Lassi, I did 2 bioactives for her she always kills the plants. But I will not give up and soon do the third try. :D Other than that she is realy relaxed and a sweetheart, kicked just one time during a rehouse but like one or two strokes. I love her. And one more thing, I do not want to come across as a smartass but if you split these plants up into parts it will encourage root- and plant-growth. But maybe this is comon knowledge for you, I just wanted to share. Greetings from Germany. I love every single video and I am always excited when I see you did a new upload, keep it up! :)
Hello, Christoph! Ha! I was just telling another keeper that I was pretty sure that this one would kill the plant. haha And you're not a smartass at all! That's great advice...thank you!
I just recently got one in a collection I bought from someone and the enclosure she came in is waaay too small for her and I’ve been so worried about rehousing her, but this helped immensely.
Congrats on acquiring one! Yeah, just try to use something that contains the hairs should she kick. Miraculously, Billie and I didn't get any on us (although, I got one up my nose. lol).
I'm planning on getting a lasioadora parahybana as my first tarantula. I was wondering if a 1/2 inch sling would be an okay buy or would it be more intelligent to go for the 1inch sling? I'm asking because the price difference is pretty big. If the bigger sling is better I'm okay with spending the extra money though.
Hi, Patrick! I think that a 1/2 inch sling would be okay, although just be aware that a 1/2" sling is pretty small. It shouldn't take it too long to reach the 1" mark. Hope that helps!
Hello, Noah! Oh man! I should have taken a photo of it. I had a meeting at school the next day, and everyone was asking me what was wrong with it. haha. Yeah, my blondis are BONKERS. haha
Bless your wife on the front line with those hairs! 😂❤️ I love those enclosures! I'm going to have to invest in some of those for my larger Ts! My L parahybana is still about the size of my thumbnail, can't wait to see it get big and beautiful like yours! ❤️
Hello, Laikin! Yeah, I was SO worried that she was going to get haired! I was trying to edge her back off camera. haha I'm about to post the review video up for those enclosures. I'm worried that they are going to sell out before I can order more. haha And don't worry...she'll put on size quickly. Thank you!
@@TomsBigSpiders mine has only thrown one threat posture, and only kicked once or twice, but I was doing something in the enclosure. I have three juveniles too that are growing quick
My L.P. sling is over 2" and still doesnt have any of its adult colors. Im used to my other slings having some colors at this size. I guess just a testimony to how big they can get. Its soo gangly. Kinda reminds me of like a big goofy great dane pup or something.
Great video! A “showpiece” spider on all counts: Big, beautiful, visible. Mine absolutely refuses to acknowledge it’s hide.
Thank you so much, William! They really are! None of mine every use their hides either. :)
This is on my list of first slings.
It didn't make it to the cart in my first order of slings but I have o e now. It's soo fast. I have arboreal species that aren't this skittish.
“I’m homeless and I’m proud”
- your T, probably
I have a tiny little savage in a dram vial right now. She has to be around 1/4 inch but I decided to feed her a tiny mealworm with its head crushed. It was still spasming so she ripped it in half then paraded half of it around her enclosure before eating both halves. I love her she lives for the kill lol.
Bahahahaha! That's insane! Man...she IS a savage! lmao! Thanks, Cody!
I'm sure I'm not the only one who gets a little burst of serotonin when I see that Tom has uploaded a new video. Thanks for the smile, Tom. :)
HA! Awwww...thanks, Morgan! I truly appreciate that! :)
I guess im asking randomly but does any of you know a tool to get back into an Instagram account??
I somehow lost the login password. I would love any help you can give me
@Jared Hudson instablaster =)
Haha "Corona virus it", put on a face shield. My 3 LP slings have molted 3-4 times since I had them during Halloween. Awesome Ts!
I was hoping that people would get that...I almost cut it out! haha That's awesome, Ike! They really are fantastic spiders!
Bahaha "coronavirus it" :D
I’m loving my LP. I’ve had her about 3 years, got her at about 1.5”, now she’s about 6-7” maybe. Super aggressive, lots of fun to feed, and she knows she’s big so she never hides, like you said, since she was 2-3”. Best $20 I’ve ever spent in the hobby.
That's awesome, Dylan! Man...you got some awesome growth with yours! Mine have all been a bit slower. They really are awesome spiders!
LPs are amazing and they are such a big and fast growing T what makes them great T to keep for sure
Dude I love my LP Sling. Super cheap - what personality though!
may i ask where you bought yours from? im trying to find the best website to buy one from
Mine grew up a lot faster!!
Hey, Walt! That's awesome! Yeah, sometimes they can shock you with how much size they put on. :)
Hello, Dusty...congrats on your LP sling! And that's awesome about your local pet store. Good on you for fighting the good fight!!!
I've got 2 of them in my collection i love them so much so relaxed, fun feeding response such a pretty spider 🕷 😍
That's awesome, Alison!
Hello, Anthony! That's awesome! I was arachnophobic when I first got into the hobby! I'm glad to hear that it's going well!
I have one walking around my house right now. Got out through an airhole. Never have I kicked myself harder for not listening to my gut. I just hope I can find the precious little cherub!
Good luck, keep us updated if you find the lil' fella!
Oh no! Man, we've all been there. I do hope that you find it!
I would move out .Stuff that
Love mine.He is active and fun to watch as he redecorates his enclosure regularly.
That's awesome, Rebecca!
When I rehoused my Theraphosa stirmi I was cleaning out the dirt from her old house got hair on my hands and some how my chest and It was a living hell for 2 weeks.
Hi, Joseph! Oh man! I've done a similar thing, but with much less potent spider hairs. I can't even imagine!
@@TomsBigSpiders well lets says I've learned my lesson.
Omg I bet that was so bad . I feel for you there hairs are so bad and nasty I feel for you mate.
@@JPsPetNation Yes it was I had nail marks everywhere to the point of bleeding from breaking skin on my chest and wrists.
Yeah, as you could see in this video, mine like to tear into the water dishes. lol
Getting a 10-11cm female lp next week can’t wait - great video Tom
Got mine as a freebie sling at a rep con, can’t wait till mine gets this size ❤
That's awesome!
lol my first in-person experience with tarantulas ever was with one of these beauties, cleaning out her old enclosure for a bit of a terrarium swap around. got a shed load of the urticating hairs all up my arms and in my throat, was a nightmare for about a month but i still think they're incredible and i'm hopefully getting one as a pet soon.
Oh man...that sounds horrific! Yeah, the hairs from these guys are not pleasant. I seem to be particularly sensitive to this species. Thanks, Grey!
Hi, Caroline...of course! If people take the time to comment, the least that I can do is respond. :) Hopefully, your LP is a lady. Thank you!!!
Love the name Milton! Sounds like he's quite the brat. haha Good luck with your breeding!
Wow, thank you so much, Joey! I really appreciate that!
Good timing! I just purchased one last night. Great videos. Cant wait for my slings to arrive.
Hello, Sean! That's awesome...congrats!
👍. My LP is allways on show an a beast when feeding....
Those LPs are always good for a fun feed, Tom!
Could not believe that their names were on the big CZcams video's. hahaha

Hello, Nicole! They really aren't! And sadly, many people trivialize them. And thank you so very much!!!! :)
@@TomsBigSpiders Definitely, Ive had a nasty rash and blister on my hand before because of an LP, that was unplesant lol. and you are very welcome :)
I’ve got 2 now, a tiny sling I got yesterday and juvenile that I’ve had for a while now :)
The juvie has buried itself for now so I am assuming it’s going to moult soon, before it used to spend a lot of time sat out at the hide entrance.
Thank you, LoveWolf! Yeah, the hairs aren't just unpleasant...there are a LOT of them. haha
Yeah, mine all burrowed as slings, and the juvies would outgrow the behavior a bit.
Oh, good timing on my part then. haha. She sounds like a spunky one!
The good news is, the slings are pretty hardy. Just be prepared for it to bury itself when it has eaten its fill.
I'll receive my 1inch sling tomorrow! Thanks for always being there with all the information.
Congrats! You're going to love it. :)
Man, I have to see them again! We took my son to see them for his birthday before the pandemic hit. How do you like the new album?
@@TomsBigSpiders love it! Get in the ring is like my morning ballad.
Thank you so much!

Thankyou, I'm so excited to get her.
Thanks again for taking the time to make such amazing informative videos xx
I’m currently in the middle of building my exotics room (snakes, skinks, and Ts) and I’ve been wanting a T. Blondi SO BAD but I want to have a solid adult enclosure prior to getting one. So today I brought home an LP sling. She’s a spunky little thing and I can’t wait to watch her grow. I’ve got a terrarium ready for every stage of her growth. I can’t wait to compare the fun feeding of these guys compared to my G. Pulchra who likes to parade her food around her enclosure and she’s not even quite a juvenile yet. 😂
L Parahybana, my first T from FNT back in September. Now I have 36 Ts 🤣🤣
That's awesome! I think the LP was my fourth. :)
Hello, Toni! That's awesome! Congrats on your LP. They are such cool spiders. And thank so much for the vote of confidence! :)
Great video Tom, mine must be lagging behind as it’s 3-4 inch now and still stays in it massive underground bubble 😂
Hey, Tink! You've got a shy one! haha Mine all stopped the burrowing at about 4" or so. :)
Amazing video Tom as always!!!! I thank you so much for what u provide keepers seasoned and novice alike!
I have a 5 inch female and she is a stunner..attitude for days. The o Philipinus I got from you are all melting and doing awesome!!!! I can not thank u enough

Hey, bud! I hope you and the family are well! Glad to hear that you kept one (lets be honest...no one really need FOUR, right? haha).

Love your Amon Amarth hoodie!
Thank you so much!
Yep. I jumped back into the hobby with this species. Will say mine has been chill.. Mostly. But as you mentioned, Tom, the hairs are very itchy. Thanks, Ben.
Hey, Ben! Yeah, the only time I've had to deal with hairs is during rehousings. Mine have all been pretty laid back. :)
I just got a free sling from Microwilderness, now I’m binging so many videos on how to take care of it
These guys are super hardy, so you'll do just fine. Congrats!
Mine drives the kids to school, very helpful
But does it do the grocery shopping? That would make my life SO much easier these days.
Woah! I've never actually seen a close up of the hairs that get kicked.
Hi, Amy! Yeah, I was SO glad I caught that! haha
Great video! Just watching this makes me feel itchy. Their urticating hair drives me crazy whenever I rehouse mine.
Every once in a while I get a bit itchy after rehousing something. Those hairs get everywhere!
Awesome video!!! I I have one LP she/he was my 3d species after my gbb and lasiodorides striatus. Mine molted this week and needs a rehouse. He/she is still a sling but I am so excited to set it up in a big enclosure eventually!
Hello! I got my first LP and GBB at the same time! :) Good luck with the rehouse! :)
Hello! Sounds like you have quite the adorable spider there! :) Yeah, they don't seem to stop with the bulldozing. haha
Perfect timing for this video. I was considering picking up an LP sling. As usual, terrific video!
Hi, Toni! Whoohoooo! Awesome! And thank you so much! :)
i just bought myself a Young Adult as my First T. i'm a bit skittish as to how it's gonna be once it's here.the research has been done the material is all here so im keeping my fingers crossed and hopefully this will be the first of many that i will be getting ^^ bless you mate love the vids learned a lot from you and a bunch of other keepers. im not really afraid of spiders but the size does trigger my blood pressure to rize up xD much love keep rocking it ^^
Congrats on the molt, Kenneth! And this is a wonderful spider.
I love my big girl.. I have paired her and look forward to the egg sack. And the ton of eggs I will get from her. My 4th favorite tarantula.
That's awesome! Fingers crossed that you get a nice, fat sac! :)
Update I have found out today Sunday 5/10/2020 my girl has an egg sack.
Sounds like you have a sweetheart there!
Whenever you say Lasiodora, I hear Lazy Dora 😅 also awesome vid as always, Tom!

Great video, my sling dig all the way. I was worried he's not eating or maybe just not interested in dubia
Sorry for the delay, Angelo...I missed this comment! Some spiders won't eat dubia. Also, if you crush the dubia's head before dropping it in, it will usually wander around a bit but it won't burrow.

You'll do just fine, Stacey. Just don't be alarmed when your sling inevitably buries itself during premolt.

Miraculously, Billie and I didn't get any on us (although, I got one up my nose. lol).
Just got my smol LP sling!! Hope it will grow big too!!
Sorry for the delay...congrats! This girl just molted again, and she's pushing 9". :)
@@TomsBigSpiders congrats too!!
Got 2 ..... my first and favourite ts 😍
That's awesome, Jadie! They are very cool spiders!
Hey Tom!!! Getting the notifications so far!!! I have egg sacks opening !!! Yay 😁
STEVE! I guess that I don't have to go track you down for this one, huh? hahaha. Glad that you're still getting notifications! Congrats on the sacs!!!
I purchased mine as a sling/juvenile she’s abt 2-3 inches long I find that size the best to start for any species in my experience
Love the video, I have a photo of my eyes with one that has hair in it. Looks crazy. But my blondi are so much more skittish than my Lps.
Thank you!
I get itchy just opening my LP enclosure. I too, have blistered from them.
Luckily, this girl is usually quite calm, but the time I got haired (and it was only the side of my left hand) was NOT pleasant.
Hahaha Great analogy! Yeah, it's usually around 3" that they start darkening up a bit.
Mine went from 8 dram vial to MM hooked male in 18 months!!!
WOW! What temps do you have it at? I had my male for 4 years before it matured! haha
I guess it was because of the near 80 I had that room due to scorpions, and a high feeding schedule. Bought from FNT.
