This is something that would have been used back when Da Vinci was alive? What a clever design using gear reductions like that.

This is the odometer of Vitruvius, the Roman architect/engineer, which da Vinci read and made drawings of.
At first I thought this was a useless dispensing machine. But when I saw that it can be used to measure distances, I was amazed.
the Chinese South-pointing chariot was first constructed in the 1st millennium BC by the Duke of Zhou. The Chinese mileage drum wagons date to around 220 AD
We can see the flaw and the lack in the design, but we couldn't help but satisfied by the fact he design a measurer that can count as it in motion. Not to mention, using mathematics in order to make it as portal as possible
