From the private archives of Sathir Dance Art (est. 1995) the varnam “rūpamu jūci” (tōdi, ādi) composed by Muttusvāmi Dīkṣita.
This (edited) recording of “rūpamu jūci” is part of a private collection recorded during the 1960s and 70s. The collection has varnams by composers of the 19th century including Melattur Veerabhadrayya, Tanjore Quartet, Patnam Subramania Iyer, and others. All sung by two singers (for higher and lower octave) and all the jathis are nattuvanar compositions of Panthanainallur Meenakshisundaram, Panthanainallur Swaminatha, and Thanjavur KP Kittappa.
Since 1989, Sathir Dance Art Trust has curated a vast collection of hundreds of Bharatanatyam songs. These include numerous old recordings of the Tanjore Quartet, orchestrated by nattuvanars, and some sung by hereditary dancers. Additionally, the collection includes many old and newer recordings of contemporary composers.

Jatis sound like Pandanainallur compositions- have listened to similar jatis in Sonal Mansinghs performance accompanied by the OG nattuvanars

Pandanallur masters taught at Kalakshetra. Almost all (old) jathis used in Kalakshetra find origin in nattuvanar compositions, right from Pandanallur Meenakshisundaram.

Do you have info about the vocalists and the nattuvangam? Or the other orchestra members? 🙏🏾
