How wonderful... I'm crying.... have not heard her sing as an elder. She sounds magical; her voice is a whole new, and wonderful, instrument that suits her (and I) perfectly.
I dream of attending a concert with Joni. If I had known of this performance I would've booked a ticket from Stockholm, Sweden, to Toronto so I could be there and see her in the flesh, performing. I'm so in love in, and enthralled by, her music. I feel such a deep connection to it. It touches me in a way no other music can. Her music is one of the most important things in my life.
Brian's one of the most impassioned drummers all-time. He's played with Joni for a couple decades, and was the musical director of this concert. It was a magical evening.
Brian Blade has the most beautiful kind of energy. His vibe is light spiritual with a real connection to what Joni's all about. He's respectfully playful when approaching her material- giving things the subtle shadings and atmospheric ambiance which obviously delight her!
That many years singing will change a voice, yeh and so will the smokes...give her a break...she is my favourite person in the whole world...real, her work has given me many hours of pleasure and comfort....
El mejor tributo a la Extraordinaria y Maravillosa JONI lo hacen los músicos que siguen su fraseo y cadencia melódica, sin "dejar de demostrar su placer de disfrutar" la oportunidad de acompañar a tan talentosa artista.
If OL Blues MEN can Keep On Keepin On til their Spirit's free of dem old bones, Joni can TOO! Long may we be Privileged to be Blest by such Courageous Humility .
Never mind the age or so...Joni was at her best in the late 70s and since then...I love the mellow and mature voice of her..and we all grow older and the voidce cannot remain the same :D
The blessing of the Lord will make you rich and He will add no sorrow unto it. Joni, the joy dont diminish and the timelessness of her heart is due to her thankfulness. Wether good or bad. Integrity matters.
Wonderful recording! Would you have this whole show uploaded in full versus in parts? Just wondering, thanks for sharing this! Great to see her again performing! G
Some people should never get old. It's so thrilling see a legend like Joni sing again after so many years, but at the same time, it's sad to think which she's not more that little girl, with her long blond hair, playing her acustic guitar with so sweet voice who I used to watch and listen to all these few years of my life. All my love and respect for this woman.
This is a slightly more upbeat performance than the June 18th show. I prefer the dreamier, more melancholy June 18th version, but, this is great, too. June 18, she seems to be mourning her passing years and on this performance she seems to be celebrating them.
I think I love this song best. (but its hard to pick) Thank you for this. ("He points a bony finger and he says 'I dont like you..." Hard to beat this song)
she is 70 this year -- not condoning smoking-- I smoked for 30 years myself -- have quit for 10--- but really -- dont think she "ruined her best instrument" at all--she just out lived it-- that's all -- hell if i could have gotten away with it I would have never quit either--- how many singers still perform at 70?-- and she really quit singing several years ago -- she likes to be considered a painter,,,
yeah, point taken. considering she is such an icon, just think if she hadnt done it for all these years.. hey, atleast she still got whatever notes she had left, out and not badly either!
Ironic . She's old here, singing about an old man who was once a famous musician who people still come to see. Great seeing her again. Weird seeing her without a guitar in her hands, and such a slow tempo.
I am just speechless...you are talking about smoking etc, but I think that that's not the point when it comes to singing or some kind of problems with singing. So many great singers smoke or have smoked...ok that's not an excuse. But nevertherless, Joni has made a great career and her music will live forever.
never said she wasn't amazingly talented. just a shame she ruined her best instrument.. but, if you're chuffed with your comment and it warmed you inside to type it, I can't take that away.
if you call smoking living...go visit the cancer ward. poor role model as far as the smoking is concerned...as a musician on the other hand, like no other and Canadian.

I like that she hasn't gone the Hollywood facelift route. More beautiful than ever, she is, our Joni!
❤

She still got it, smoking or not...adds a bluesy, jazzy, feel. Absolutely fab. She is one wonderful lady.
The drummer is absolutely enthralled that he's playing with such a legend. (:

@@brysondockrill4378 Brian Blade on drums

I'm 59 and just starting to appreciate this woman after all these years ,what an artist she was and still is.
Same here, 60 but feel like growing up with her now. Thu Dec 9, 2021 4:51 PM
@@942NorthStreet just wished I'd of followed her more sooner.
Joni is the gratest jazz singer of all times, LONG LIVE TO JONI!!! and this is one of th emost beautiful songs she ever made, joni love you!
She could have only 3 notes left and her phrasing and lyrics would still destroy almost any other singer out there. Joni rules!
So well said !😉
Thanks Joni! , listening to you sing is one of life's greatest pleasures!
It's not new, though. It's from hejira. Look it up and listen to the whole album. You'll be amazed.
Her best album by far.

I fell in love with Joni 40 yrs ago. I'm in love with her still.
Get out of my head! Yeah, the voice is noticeably deeper since her last album, but that incredible phrasing is intact.
Wonderful recording! Would you have this whole show uploaded in full versus in parts? Just wondering, thanks for sharing this! Great to see her again performing!

She is just fabulous...think of yourself at the age of 70

Qué genia!!!!!!. Te adoro Joni Michell!!!!!
Nice Joni groove...
Beautiful soft jazzy feel to this.
oh my god.......thank you! thank you!!!
I wish I had 1/8 of her talent
Good to know her around!
She says her mother's voice deepened too, so it's. genetic.
Thank you God. Thank You
Would love to see her in blue silk rather than crinkly grey. Lovely subtle voice, husky soulfulness!
"Time and other thieves"
You heard it, she can play in standard
Still a class act !
Forever in my heart!
I love this woman
She is GREAT
Still going strong

never said she wasn't amazingly talented. just a shame she ruined her best instrument.. but, if you're chuffed with your comment and it warmed you inside to type it, I can't take that away.
:D
Sounds to me like you're the one who's chuffed with their self-righteous comments....
if you call smoking living...go visit the cancer ward. poor role model as far as the smoking is concerned...as a musician on the other hand, like no other and Canadian.
Ta ta toothy! I agree... she keeps blaming her latest disease du jour for her voice issues, but the real culprit is burning in her right hand.
70 and still chainsmoking. shame she ruined her best intstrument.
bababooey7576 I love her voice in all shades
sounds disgusting relating to smoking, not her talent which is amazing, i have to had before everyone gangs up saying i dont know shit etc etc.,
