    This was the band of my teenage years. Every one of their songs are great, the harmonies are perfect, they could all sing beautifully. They're magic.

    Their harmonies were their trademark - and were always amazing. The whole band could sing - not carry a tune - they could sing. Listen to "Seven Bridges Road", which is almost entirely a capella

    This song, and the songs in the album it comes from, were inspired by a book of old photographs and biographies of frontier gunmen entitled "The Album of Gunfighters." Evidently Jackson Browne has a copy of it and showed it to Don and Glen and I guess they really got something out of it.
    This book was compiled and written by my grandfather, Texas historian and journalist J. Marvin Hunter, who provided the histories and biographies- along with his friend and colleague, Noah H. Rose, who provided the photographs from his extensive collection of frontier artifacts.
    I still have several copies of it.

    The eagles and the 70s were my childhood and I feel so bad for those that missed out on all this music. There is nothing like driving down Sunset Boulevard towards the beach with windows down, wind in your hair, sunglasses on, singing every word while tapping your hand to the beat. The BEST LIFE EVER.

    "Desperado" was never released as a single, but it is one of The Eagles most popular songs. Yes, the orchestral part is in the original recording. The song was recorded in London, England with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Don Henley said that he felt that he didn't sing his best for the song.
    Between 1987 - 1989, there were 5 made for TV movies loosely based on the song.

    Don Henley could sing the phone book. The man was blessed. I was sold on Eagles the first time I heard "Take It Easy" (Glenn Frey's vocals and those Eagles harmonies) and they just kept pumping out the hits. A Greatest Hits album, put together (against the band's wishes) while waiting for the band to complete a new album, became the top selling album of the 20th Century. Such talent. Such success. Such drama. "This could be Heaven or this could be Hell".

    The recording is the 1973 studio version (off the Desperado album, produced by Glyn Johns in the UK despite being an American band) which had the London Philharmonic Orchestra on the string parts.
    The video you are seeing is from the 1994 "Hell Freezes Over" special on MTV, which also had an orchestra - but the Burbank Philharmonic Orchestra because it was filmed at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank. Still - the 1994 audio is remarkably close to the original 1973 recording. The Eagles were notorious for sounding exactly like the recording, even when live.

    Even after all these years I listen to the Desperado album more than any other Eagles album. It was Bernie Leaden, pre Dan Felder sound, with Jackson Browne still part of the early Eagles sound. The songs were less catchy and more cohesive, which didn't result in a lot of album sales, but it established the Frey-Henley writing duo that would rival the Beatles in album sales. I also liked the quasi concept album theme centering around an old west cowboy theme, eg the Dalton gang and Coffeyville raid.

    @wallnut6666 Před 2 lety

    The mix is great because it appears that audio is not the live audio of this performance.. It's the record audio dubbed over the live video. Watch it again and you'll see places where Henley's singing doesn't match up to what you're seeing his mouth do. In a couple of places you even can still hear his voice singing after he's clearly finished singing and cut the line shorter than what he sang on the record.. Also, whoever made this video at Video Jukebox put on the video that it's 1973. Although the record was recorded 1973, the performance footage we are watching is not. It's one of their later reunion performances. This is what you get with fan made videos that somebody puts together. Dubbed audio over pieces of live video and wrong misleading information. But I'm glad you guys liked it. It's a great song, Linda Ronstadt also did a great cover live.
