Hiroyuki Sanada, Cosmo Jarvis and Anna Sawai talk about the focus on authenticity needed to portray feudal Japan in their new FX limited series Shōgun.
Love seeing how genuinely happy Hiroyuki Sanada-san is when he talks about this dream collaborative project :-). Shogun is so good. I'm one of the few who has to wait until Tuesday night to watch the broadcast on FX, with all the commercials and everything like the old days, lol, but I wouldn't miss an episode of this series for anything.
I have been watched Hiroyuki Sanada’s movie for over 40 years since Legend of Eight Samurai. He looked so handsome at that time. Even he turn 60, he still look stunning. You are so cool, Hiroyuki.
One mistake that Hollywood always seems to make time and time again sadly.... Then they try to promote themselves as being "diverse"... Yet will always get someone who is a Filipino to play a Japanese person or a Korean to play a Chinese person.... It's really ridiculous.... But then again they do this in Asia as well, I've seen Japanese films where they had Japanese folks play Chinese people for example, a good example of this is Japanese actor Takeshi Kaneshiro.... Most of his film roles involve him playing a Chinese character but at least in his case he can because he speaks both Cantonese and Mandarin fluently Now if we can just Hollywood to start giving roles of African figures to actual African actors instead of either black Americans or black brits maybe we'll see some real progress
I hope the show was entered into as many categories as possible. Hiroyuki Sanada deserves a lot of credit for shaping the show into what it ultimately became, but equal credit should go to the show runners, Rachel and Justin (who are husband and wife btw, fun fact) for their decision to essentially allow Hiroyuki and the Japanese crew to lead the entire production. They approached this project by learning from Hollywood's past mistakes in portraying Japan in Western media and after bringing Hiroyuki on as lead actor, they later realized that he would also make a great producer due to his extensive experience in both Japanese and Hollywood acting. Their decision to step back and let others take over has really paid off.
Other than Jarvis who needs contacts and short hair to not look Portuguese himself and half the Japanese men who have Peter Dinklage syndrome i.e. much too handsome to be their respective characters
I love Hiroyuki Sanada ever since I idolized him in Last Samurai. I've been a huge Cosmo Jarvis fan since he made Gay Pirates back in 2010ish. I can sing literally every word of "He Only Goes Out On Tuesday" and of course Gay Pirates. It's odd to see Cosmo Jarvis in a period epic, but considering he's pirate adjacent, I can adjust to it. The show is great, my only critique is that I haven't gotten any new weird music lately. Lol
Anna should be the best supporting actress for tv series, she speaks two languages and being interpreter is a hard work and acting at the same time. And she can fight, too. A perfect role model for all Asian women or female!
So far the show has been fantastic, I'd say i hope it sparks some more Japanese tv series, but i doubt the detail and authenticity within this series could be broadly reproduced. Makes me sad that it's a one and done and we won't have future seasons.
This is how you bring TRUE diversity to media, not by casting different races to play historically white characters. Anna Sawai is mind blowing in this series.
the best would be if they could make a film about the US vs Philippine war w/c actually no Americans are aware off, one of the worst human tragedy in history forgotten !!!
Actually, I think the Samuri is coming back.. If you see Japanese skaters, one of the made a samuri salute.. I think when USA is weak n the West is weak, Japan turns back to Samuri.. USA n West is weak..
I hope actors can do a better job of describing their project than saying "it's about love.. it's about loss. It's about finding purpose" lol.. Hear that for every freakin show😂😂 Say something new for god's sake. Great show so far though . Loving Shogun.
In Japan the culture is somewhat of an interesting thing when it comes to Half Japanese and Half something else. almost always, Half jin or half breed, tend to be shoved off to the side and relegated but Sanada San brings together Western Japanese people with native Japanese People and the blend is remarkable

Shogunfx, get all the Emmy awards as many as possible 👏✨
They deserved it. Especially Hiroyuki Sanada, legendary needs to be recognised by now 🥺🙏

皆さん暖かい言葉をありがとうございます🙏✨✨
嬉しいです✨✨
やはりハリウッドで20年頑張って来られた真田さんの功績が認められて欲しいです🙏❇️❇️
Anna is stunning..
what is that one button drip on sanada......
Your are right. She is very beautiful and a excellent actress.
Anna Kawaii😍
she's the bomb
I think I fell in love with her! ❤

This Show SERIOUSLY deserves ALL the Emmys. 💯
Specially Anna Sawai as Mariko Sama ,particularly in ep 9,
@@user-ru4zc2us1j Definitely!!! I still am not over ep 9. 😭
She's a triple thread.
She can sing.
She can dance.
She can act.
Hiroyuki Sanada is the best!! I love❤❤
So the Emmy campaign begins. 4 episodes in and I already want Shogun to sweep the upcoming Emmys.
thank you hiroyuki for bringging this history to the world
I'm just glad they actually used japanese actors instead of different ethnicities from Asia.
Totally agreed... That's what brought more authenticity to it... I'm in awe.

In a parallel universe, casting made bad choices by hiring non-Japanese Asians, like Ken Jeong as Lord Toranaga

On its way to win every category this Emmys.... and it totally deserves to smash the ceremony this year
Anna is stunning. So is the show. :)

Holy shit Hiroyuki is sooo friggin stylish!!!
Isn't he though?!?! Hot damn, so elegant, so classy and just the most GORGEOUS male on this planet!!
This team deserves all the awards, priceless masterpiece.
this show is such a huge suprise, I mean we are talkin about game of thrones first season level of good here, at least it is for me!
When I watch this show, I feel like a peasant from Edo selling kites before a festival
I absolutely loved this mini series and think that all 3 of you deserve to win an Emmy Award!
Honestly, Shogun is the only TV series I’ve ever finished watching for the first time. I decided what I deserve to watch and it was great! 🇯🇵
wonderfully beautiful show!!
The show is pure perfection if that's even possible.
Waiting the fifth ep to come out ❤
Bro this show is so fire
Love love LOVE the show ❤
Mariko sama is gorgeous ❤
This is a first class show with perfect casting.
Other than Jarvis who needs contacts and short hair to not look Portuguese himself and half the Japanese men who have Peter Dinklage syndrome i.e. much too handsome to be their respective characters
They might take every awards for this year 😅 Show is really good
Cosmo looks hot in the suit 🔥

They all look so good
Shogun deserves ALL the awards
What damn fine show.
This show had me glued to seat amazing story. This show and hell on wheels and peaky blinders are my all time favorites.
Absolutely superb show❤❤❤❤
真田広之さんの英語は、素晴らしいです。🤭そして、写真撮影の姿がたもモデル見たいです。💘ずっと身体に、気おつけて頑張って下さい。☺️
best tv series ever.better then game of thrones
TORANAGA-SAMAAAAA!!!
Awsome series!!!!!!!

Do you think maybe she could qualify as a lead actress? I know it's kinda tricky considering Shogun is an ensemble cast but I think she counts.
This is almost like the Good ole Days of the 1980's!
Some people hated Anna in Monarch. They love Anna here in Shōgun 😅
No offense but Monarch was terrible. I only loved Anna's mother in that show... and of course the monsters...
@@Ahtisham100the middle episodes of monarch were ASS.
@@vatsalsanwaria537 😆
monarch writing was terrible
Yo the background music is too loud i cant hear what they are saying
I love these three, but I'd love for Moeka Hoshi to be featured more
If she was a Japanese Sword Monk.. then her father was as powerful as the Emporor of Japan.
Oh!
Mariko sama!
I will serve you :)
So far the show has been fantastic, I'd say i hope it sparks some more Japanese tv series, but i doubt the detail and authenticity within this series could be broadly reproduced. Makes me sad that it's a one and done and we won't have future seasons.
Are they eligible for major awards for a tv series? Just wondering
Yes. Fx is an American network
from Barney Thompson to John Blackthorne
This is how you bring
TRUE diversity to media, not by casting
different races to play historically white characters.
Anna Sawai is mind blowing in this series.
How to create a girl boss perfectly:
Wolverine and Lady Deathstrike bruh!
Who will win an emmy? Cosmo?
It's kinda weird hearing toronaga speak English 😅 even though I've known he speaks English for years but still
Hiroyuki Sanada is SEXY AS HELL AND SOOOOOOO OUTRAGEOUSLY GORGEOUS🤤🤤🤩😍💖💞!!!!!!!
Could anyone comment on how much AI they used on Shogun?
the best would be if they could make a film about the US vs Philippine war w/c actually no Americans are aware off, one of the worst human tragedy in history forgotten !!!

i disliked anna in monarch but now i see it wasn't her acting but the lousy writing
DO NOT SUBSCRIBE TO THIS, IT SHOWS ADs that you can NOT click out of, to long of ads. TV academy is not worth it.
Agrrrr ☠️. Sail the seas.
why cosmo jarvis lowkey a socially awkward person
The Last Samurai's better. I don't even know what's the purpose of anjin's character. Doesn't seem to go anywhere interesting.
Learn some history little bro😂
@@Louis1059 Irrelevant to my point, big bro.

Loving Shogun.

Anne Sawai was terrible. Ruined every scene she was in. 😢
Wut? She was amazing.
