Charlie's smackdown in S2E7 sounded final, and we know Ben won't even appear in S3, so good riddance. Harry's no saint, but he's likely aware that his alpha-male status would suffer a setback if he ends up on the wrong side of the Nick & Charlie parade.

@@blahblahblahSPLASHYeah, I think they were careful to strike the right balance with Ben’s ending, and in my view they succeeded. While I think it’s true that some people in the fandom were very into the idea of a Ben redemption arc because of ‘pretty privilege’ and being into the actor, I also think plenty of people were just uncomfortable at the idea of writing off a 16 year old kid with internalized homophobia as being forever an irredeemable monster. Leaving it where we see that Ben COULD eventually become better, but he has a lot of issues to sort through and it’s not Charlie’s responsibility to guide him through that. I also liked that they showed how just because someone apologizes it doesn’t mean that they’ve suddenly changed and now are better. I don’t think Ben really changed for the better by the end of the series, but there are signs that perhaps a better journey awaits for him off-screen. After a lot of self-reflection lol.
A lot of reactors that I've watched have edited out parts of the ending, during which we hear the song. The song has a middle part (which changes melody and tone) -- that accompanies Nick closing the door . All the while that Charlie is with him at the door and then begins walking away, Nick has a shiny, happy, love-in-his-eyes expression. All the scenes focusing on Charlie are shown with the lyrics, which begin "You're so pretty..." THEN, as Charlie turns a corner and moves out of Nick's sight, Nick closes the door and turns, and we see his expression which shows worry and sadness. The lyrics change to: "I'm so scared that the moments we shared Won't happen again I don't want this to end" [It's at this point that I start to cry] (The second and last stanzas end with these lyrics: "You're the only person left, so hold me Don't leave me" )
kit and joe's acting in that last scene is fantastic, as someone who wants to be a filmmaker in the future, watching their performances really affected me, especially kit's with how much emotion he shows only with his eyes and i love how much they focus on joe's face and really let him shine instead of directly showing kit's reaction. one of those scenes that rly inspire me ngl. ur heartstopper reactions are always great, warning tho season 3 will get even darker but it'll still keep the warm fuzzy feelings too.
Kit and Joe spent a whole day perfecting thar last scene. Afterward,they were both so totally wrung out emotionally that they had to take the rest of the filming day off.

Ben's apology was still not actually an apology, I guess he did technically say sorry, however, he kept giving excuses as to why he was so terrible to Charlie, which is not an explanation. He was abusive, and he SA-ed Charlie, and he didn't even realise it. When Charlie told him about their first kiss, Ben smiled, it was a nice memory for him, for Charlie it was not. It might not have been entirely unwanted (Charlie probably would have said yes if Ben had asked) but Ben did not ask. He doesn't seem to realise what he even did, and why it was so incredibly wrong. He also doesn't show that he has changed his behaviour as an indication of his regret. He messages Charlie incessantly, he stalks him, basically forces Charlie to listen to him when Charlie has made it abundantly clear he doesn't want to talk to Ben. Ben ignores Charlie's boundaries and wishes, he doesn't seem like he even considered Charlie in his apology at all. Ben wanted to say he was sorry, so he made Charlie listen, whether Charlie wanted to see the person who SA-ed him never even seems to enter Ben's mind at all. So I'm with you and Charlie, Ben may feel sorry, but he's not actually examined his behaviour and how he hurt Charlie, nor has he changed his behaviour. So if he is serious about wanting to change, he has a long way to go. I've seen people argue that this show is unrealistic because Charlie and Nick don't jump into bed with each other the second they can. And like, they're only just 15 and 16. It's entirely realistic to not be ready at age 15 or 16. Never mind the fact that one of them has only just realised maybe four months ago he also likes boys, and the other was SA-ed and abused by his previous boyfriend and is dealing with a lot of trauma, and possibly body dysmorphia issues. It's entirely reasonable they're not ready to do more than kissing for now. Besides, the average age of a sexual debut is somewhere between 17-18 in most western countries. About half of all 18 year olds haven't had a sexual debut yet, so Nick and Charlie are entirely typical. I understand that many people have had their sexual debut young, but they are not necessarily representative of all teens, and the stereotype of horny teens jumping into bed as soon as they can is also false if you look at the statistics. So all in all, I would argue that Nick and Charlie are more realistic than many other teen shows in that respect. I would agree that Heartstopper is very didactic in how it shows ideal behaviour from unrealistically emotionally mature teens. I guess that is kind of true, but also, if we accept unrealistic sex lives from teens in other shows I don't see why we can't accept emotionally mature teens in this one.
I like how they’re taking it slow and not rushing. Especially for me as asexual (gray) romantic who’s not sexually active. I love the wholesomeness and wish there was more of it. I think it’s a breath of fresh air. Sure the teens are too emotionally immature for their age, but I think they serve as great role models for a young audience to relate to.
Thanks for the Aro/Ace book recommendations. I vaguely knew about a couple of them but I've been procrastinating reading them because I just know they're going to make me cry. Growing up Aro for me was difficult. However, because I've always had solid, supportive family/friends who never (and I literally mean NEVER) questioned me about my romantic life, it wasn't that bad. It's always just been my own internal confusion growing up. I've always disliked labels, but reading the and learning about the Aro term was incredibly validating and helped immensely in not only accepting myself completely but helped me realize I wasn't the only one who felt this way.
There is an amazing book by Alice Osman called loveless I would highly recommend it if u haven’t read it, it’s ab someone’s journey to figuring out that their aroace
I belong to a Heartstopper & or LGBT+ shows on Facebook. We did a poll and Darcy's mom won for "Most hated Character" on The show and she was only in two scenes....... Who would act that way when they find out none of their daughter's friends have heard from her and she have not seen Darcy for 24 hours.
One thing I thought was interesting…when Charlie fainted in The Louvre, and Nick explains to Charlie that he had just passed out, Darcy says “at least you fell into your boyfriend’s arms” with Sahar sitting with them in the group. Nick hadn’t come out yet. She didn’t react like she didn’t know so who told her they were together and when? 🤔
At the breakfast, during which they "discussed" Charlie's hickey, Sahar was sitting right there next to either Darcy or Tara. (She was sharing a room with them). Tao said he blamed Nick. Nick said that was fair. Charlie said that he was also involved. There was giggling from someone sitting near Sahar. Easy inference for Sahar.
I think once so special and amazing about the series is that it’s so relative to anyone no matter what their ages, sexual orientation, gender/sexual identity, or even their physical and mental attributes. Is completely diverse, and I love it for that. TBH, I feel like a combination of Nick, Isaac, and Mr. Farouk. 🍃🍂⚡️✨🦋🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🩷💜💙
Paris is exquisite. I remember walking down a street, ducking into an entryway, and discovering a beautiful little square. When you buy something, they wrap it up like a present. Pastry shops are everywhere, and even those are works of art. One of my most dramatic moments was walking into the Louvre and seeing Nike taking off from the top of stairs.
What they were doing at the prom after party is a British party game. I think most people call is just a the Box Game (but I could be wrong). I played it for the first time a couple months ago. You literally have to take turns picking the box up with your teeth without touching the floor and then it gets ripped to be smaller every round. Super unsanitary. But fun! I didn’t even realize they were playing it until you pointed it out, I haven’t done a full rewatch in my own since I learned how to play XD.
Harry is slowly becoming a more tolerable person because he's learning that being offensive for attention and clout has cost him friends. He still operates with a double-standard - he'll defend his friends (Nick, Imogen), but doesn't give a fig about anyone not in his friend group, and they're fair game for ridicule. He was delighted to make fun of Charlie's hickey when he didn't know who gave it to him, but when he put the pieces together on the Eiffel Tower and realized it was Nick, he pivoted to deflecting attention from Nick in case Nick was eventually willing to be his friend again. He wouldn't have given a second thought to someone calling Elle a b*tch, but Imogen has been an integral part of his friend group, and Ben jeopardized that and drove her away with his behavior. At the party, he gave the apology because it was a prerequisite to getting in the door, but he did realize that he messed up big time with Nick by being so loudly homophobic; now he understands that Nick would have taken it personally. If you watch his eyeline, he makes his apology to Nick, not to Charlie. In fact, the only reason why he wanted to apologize to "Nick and Charlie" is because he understood that Nick and Charlie were now a unit. If he was genuinely remorseful about his saying homophobic things, he would have been apologizing to Charlie and Tao, who were the main recipients of his public harassment and homophobic remarks. So, "I know I've said some homophobic things in the past, but I feel I know better now" is really "I know I've said some offensive stuff before to entertain my boys, but since y'all are not being entertained, but are instead turning on me, I'll stop doing whatever it is that's making you avoid me." So yeah, Harry is just beginning to learn social consequences, and he's willing to say whatever to come out ok on the other end. It's growth of a type, but not true redemption.
Just recently read the book "Nick and Charlie," In a part narrated by Charlie, he says that Harry has come to realize that homophobia is uncool. He is still loud and obnoxious in other ways and Nick and Charlie think of him as a "knob". The book "Nick and Charlie" begins when Nick is finishing up Year 13 and Charlie is finishing up Year 12. (So 2 years in the future)
Thank you for talking about your experience with coming out. Mine was very similar, and I was also a it frustrated hearing people complain that this show was too unrealistic for having a story that didn't focus only on trauma. My mom was always the traditionally nosy Latin American mother (I'm Brazilian). She asked me about my love life way too often, and always complained that I was single. But her question was "do you like any boys? Any girls?" ever since I was a kid. When I was a teen, she showed me The Rocky Horror Picture Show, because it was one of her favourite musicals. She talked about queer authors she loved without straightwashing them. I never came out: when I started dating my first girlfriend, I told my mom, and she just said she wanted to meet her. Some of my friends had terrible experiences. And I understand how important it is to tell those stories, to try to avoid letting them happen again and again. But it's very nice even now, as an adult, watching something that makes me so nostalgic. Happiness is important too.
I don't usually feel the need to rant but i just have a mini one in me specifically about trauma stories. Growing up black I very much felt like most of the movies and stories were based on the trauma of the black experience. Realizing later I am also bisexual I then found most of the stories about queerness were also based in trauma. I'm so tired of people acting like if it's not traumatic it's not realistic. I'm tired of only seeing stories of the sadness of my existence. Why can't a story of acceptance and joy also be realistic? I love who I am. I find joy with and in my communities. There has been pain and sadness of course but that's not the only realistic story. Why do people treat it like it is? Rant asside: I keep crying with you as I watch these reviews. I did not expect to have the dead beat dad thing hit me upside the head. I really am going to watch this series now, but im glad I watched the reviews first. Some things on this one would've been really hard to go into blind so thank you for taking me along with you. I look forward to your reviews always
I'm arospec/ace and went into season 2 knowing about Isaac's arc, and it still made me cry like a baby. My journey wasn’t exactly like his, but I still definitely felt that disconnect of being the only one in my friend group who never dated anyone and always being asked about it. I didn’t figure out the ace part until senior year and didn't figure out the arospec part until years later. I guess seeing Isaac get that full validation so early was what got me.
6:21 the stairs aren’t too bad. If you take your time it is kinda fun, seeing everything around you and feeling the wind. Although I wouldn’t recommend it if you are afraid of heights.😅
Taking the stairs up the eiffel tower is not as bad as it's made out to be imo, also you cant take the the stairs the whole way up. If youd want to go to the top, you have to take the lift at some point :)

Alice also have a book called Loveless about an aroace girl, Tori is in the ace spectrum too, and Alice herself is Ace(not just if she's aro). I just love seen "normal" (like, neurotical) people being represented as Aroace

I don’t know why ppl complain, 1) this show touches on plenty cheavy subjects and trauma, and 2) if it doesn’t focuse on those, that’s good, can we have some happy media? (Honestly if you wanna something to watch after heartstoper, I have to recomend you ‚SKAM’ (the original). Norwegian series that came out few years ago, it’s not as sweeet as heartstopper but also doesn’t overdramatise the pain , I think they rly wanted to show teen problems from a realistic and down to earts perspective. It speaks ab very symilar topics as heartstopper, including relationships, queerness, s*x, first times, ED, alcohol, friendships, gossip, mental health, racism, identity, etc.)
I walked up to the 2nd floor of the Eiffel Tower and it's because even though we had lift tickets, we went in the wrong line. My butt and thighs were NOT happy! We took the lift to the top from the 2nd floor, after a LONG break. The 2nd floor has shops and places to eat and restrooms. This was in 2021, so I'm not sure if the stairs to the complete top were open or not.

In response to your questions about visiting the Eiffel Tower: There are three platforms that each have food and souvenirs for sale where you can stop to enjoy the view, and you can visit any combination of the platforms that you like, but each level higher you go in the elevator the more expensive the tickets are. Cheaper tickets to take the stairs are available, but it's a lot of stairs (apparently 1,665 to be exact!) so bring your walking shoes! The animated butterflies that appear during key moments of Elle and Tao's romance were mentioned and I seem to remember that butterflies are a symbol of the transgender community. The idea of metamorphosis is a very resonant image. I can't wait for the next season to be released! Very much looking forwards to where the story goes next!
The Deep Dive people discuss when and how the filming on the Eiffel Tower happened. They were filming in autumn but the story takes place in summer, so the cast are 'under-dressed' and get really cold. The people who do the Deep Dive videos, explain in more detail where each part was filmed and how and when they were allowed to film in the Louvre, when no visitors were there. I've gone up the stairs! It's not really too bad. There is a part near the end where you can only take the lift and not stairs but I was able to take all the stairs as far as I could.
omg thank you so much for the note regarding isaac being aroace. his storyline made me sob like a little baby at 3 in the morning when i first watched it bc i’ve never felt so validated in my life. it always feels like i’m fake or an imposter or something bc i like the idea of dating and sex but the moment things get past flirting, i’m completely stressed out, i get horrible stomachaches, and just the idea of being tied to a relationship makes me ill. i also get the ick so quickly, someone will say something only slightly questionable and i’m immediately turned off (i know it’s bad, i just can’t help it) so i think it’s safe to say i’m at least on the aroace spectrum. but anyway, his story is so relatable omg i got so emotional seeing a story like this
About a color change in season 2: Am I off-base in my impression that in season 2, Nick starts wearing pinkish shirts? In 2x2 when Nick and Charlie meet at the park, Nick's shirt seems to be striped horizontally with pink (and maybe blue or lavender). In part of 2x7 he wears a shirt with wider horizontal stripes of some sort of pink. Later in 2x7, when he and Charlie go to the dinner, Nick is wearing a long-sleeved pink shirt and Charlie is wearing a light lavender t-shirt under his outer shirt. (In earlier episodes, especially in season 1, Nick's shirts are mainly solidly medium blue ) I bring this up because the new colors are similar to the 'bisexual lighting' they had in, for example, 1x3 (Harry's birthday party) and 1x5 (Charlie's birthday party).

The *actor* made a brief appearance at the very end of season 1 and had one line, but at that point he was still an unnamed character. Tao is very silly and I love him! As soon as things finally worked out with Elle he was too distracted to be grumpy and overprotective about Nick and Charlie anymore. I don’t think Harry is suddenly becoming a better human being, I think his homophobia and bullying was always mostly about clout. He thought he could boost his own popularity by tearing down Charlie and Tao and other kids he saw as beneath him. But now he’s lost Nick’s friendship, he's lost the respect of some of the other rugby boys, he’s not getting invited to the cool party at the end of the Paris trip… I think it’s less that he's had a massive change of heart, more that he's just switching up because his old tactics aren’t getting him clout anymore. “And in that moment David fell in love” GOD forbid but *very minor spoiler for the This Winter novella* Tori does mention offhand in the This Winter novella that David has repeatedly tried to hit on her (unsuccessfully). You just know he’s the kind of entitled dick who would see her as “challenge.” "Our experiences are not a monolith.” Yes!! I loved hearing a bit of your family story (and sweet photographs), I’m happy to hear you’ve felt affirmed and supported by your loved ones.
In the sequel of the heartstopper comics Charlie mentions that Harry actually became a nice person after like 2 years. Still loud and annoying but not homophobic
Joe Lockett is going to be in Agatha which is a Wandavision spin-off. The main theory is that his going to play teenage Billy Maximoff aka Wiccan(one of Wanda's Son). In the MCU he was introduced with his twin brother as sons wanda created with chaos magic. Wiccan is a gay superhero who has very similar powers to his mother with a twin brother Speed(Tommy) who is bi. Wiccan throughout the comics dates and then marries Hulkling(Teddy). People throughout Heartstopper early on pointed out how much Charlie and Nick look like Wiccan(Billy) and Hulkling(Teddy). Alice Oseman also notice and she probably was a fan of Young Avengers since there is mini comic or page where she drew Charlie dressed as Wiccan and Nick as Hulkling for Halloween. And now Joe who plays Charlie might be playing Billy/Wiccan.
I also find the fact we find other languages attractive interesting. I once had a bit of a crush on someone I worked with because he had a Colombian accent and I found it so attractive when he would talk to our coworkers in Spanish. Man, I am so embarrassing 🙃

I know you’ve probably gotten so many comments about this already, but because you enjoyed Red, White, & Royal Blue and Heartstopper, I definitely think you would enjoy Young Royals. It’s a Swedish show that also focuses on 2 queer teenagers (the last season just came out as well, so you won’t have to wait at all). No rush though, I know you have a lot of recommendations to go through!

Charlie could've just asked someone for makeup to cover the hickey.... I guess maybe none of the boys would've thought about it in the moment, since they don't wear makeup.... And neither Elle's nor Tara's makeup would even remotely match, while Darcy doesn't seem like she really wears makeup, so I suppose borrowing someone's concealer might've been more difficult than one would think.... It can also be hard to cover a hickey without full full-coverage studio/stage makeup, so I guess it probably would've been clearly noticeable or obvious anyways.... Lol just my thoughts 😂

Not to excuse Bi erasure, but unless a person walks around in a Tshirt that says I'm Bi, Actually, the only way you can know for sure if they are gay, straight, or bi is if they tell you, which it is their prerogative whether to tell you or not. Yeah, it's stupid to assume one way or another, but until they have better education in schools, a lot of people are going to remain ignorant about bisexuality.

Harry's no saint, but he's likely aware that his alpha-male status would suffer a setback if he ends up on the wrong side of the Nick & Charlie parade.

@@blahblahblahSPLASHYeah, I think they were careful to strike the right balance with Ben’s ending, and in my view they succeeded. While I think it’s true that some people in the fandom were very into the idea of a Ben redemption arc because of ‘pretty privilege’ and being into the actor, I also think plenty of people were just uncomfortable at the idea of writing off a 16 year old kid with internalized homophobia as being forever an irredeemable monster. Leaving it where we see that Ben COULD eventually become better, but he has a lot of issues to sort through and it’s not Charlie’s responsibility to guide him through that. I also liked that they showed how just because someone apologizes it doesn’t mean that they’ve suddenly changed and now are better. I don’t think Ben really changed for the better by the end of the series, but there are signs that perhaps a better journey awaits for him off-screen. After a lot of self-reflection lol.

The exterior and location shots were filmed in Paris. The hotel scenes were filmed on a set in England.
Ben's apology was still not actually an apology, I guess he did technically say sorry, however, he kept giving excuses as to why he was so terrible to Charlie, which is not an explanation. He was abusive, and he SA-ed Charlie, and he didn't even realise it. When Charlie told him about their first kiss, Ben smiled, it was a nice memory for him, for Charlie it was not. It might not have been entirely unwanted (Charlie probably would have said yes if Ben had asked) but Ben did not ask. He doesn't seem to realise what he even did, and why it was so incredibly wrong.
He also doesn't show that he has changed his behaviour as an indication of his regret. He messages Charlie incessantly, he stalks him, basically forces Charlie to listen to him when Charlie has made it abundantly clear he doesn't want to talk to Ben. Ben ignores Charlie's boundaries and wishes, he doesn't seem like he even considered Charlie in his apology at all. Ben wanted to say he was sorry, so he made Charlie listen, whether Charlie wanted to see the person who SA-ed him never even seems to enter Ben's mind at all.
So I'm with you and Charlie, Ben may feel sorry, but he's not actually examined his behaviour and how he hurt Charlie, nor has he changed his behaviour. So if he is serious about wanting to change, he has a long way to go.
I've seen people argue that this show is unrealistic because Charlie and Nick don't jump into bed with each other the second they can. And like, they're only just 15 and 16. It's entirely realistic to not be ready at age 15 or 16.
Never mind the fact that one of them has only just realised maybe four months ago he also likes boys, and the other was SA-ed and abused by his previous boyfriend and is dealing with a lot of trauma, and possibly body dysmorphia issues. It's entirely reasonable they're not ready to do more than kissing for now.
Besides, the average age of a sexual debut is somewhere between 17-18 in most western countries. About half of all 18 year olds haven't had a sexual debut yet, so Nick and Charlie are entirely typical.
I understand that many people have had their sexual debut young, but they are not necessarily representative of all teens, and the stereotype of horny teens jumping into bed as soon as they can is also false if you look at the statistics.
So all in all, I would argue that Nick and Charlie are more realistic than many other teen shows in that respect.
I would agree that Heartstopper is very didactic in how it shows ideal behaviour from unrealistically emotionally mature teens. I guess that is kind of true, but also, if we accept unrealistic sex lives from teens in other shows I don't see why we can't accept emotionally mature teens in this one.

I like how they’re taking it slow and not rushing. Especially for me as asexual (gray) romantic who’s not sexually active. I love the wholesomeness and wish there was more of it. I think it’s a breath of fresh air. Sure the teens are too emotionally immature for their age, but I think they serve as great role models for a young audience to relate to.
Thanks for the Aro/Ace book recommendations. I vaguely knew about a couple of them but I've been procrastinating reading them because I just know they're going to make me cry. Growing up Aro for me was difficult. However, because I've always had solid, supportive family/friends who never (and I literally mean NEVER) questioned me about my romantic life, it wasn't that bad. It's always just been my own internal confusion growing up. I've always disliked labels, but reading the and learning about the Aro term was incredibly validating and helped immensely in not only accepting myself completely but helped me realize I wasn't the only one who felt this way.
There is an amazing book by Alice Osman called loveless I would highly recommend it if u haven’t read it, it’s ab someone’s journey to figuring out that their aroace
I belong to a Heartstopper & or LGBT+ shows on Facebook. We did a poll and Darcy's mom won for "Most hated Character" on The show and she was only in two scenes....... Who would act that way when they find out none of their daughter's friends have heard from her and she have not seen Darcy for 24 hours.
One thing I thought was interesting…when Charlie fainted in The Louvre, and Nick explains to Charlie that he had just passed out, Darcy says “at least you fell into your boyfriend’s arms” with Sahar sitting with them in the group. Nick hadn’t come out yet. She didn’t react like she didn’t know so who told her they were together and when? 🤔
At the breakfast, during which they "discussed" Charlie's hickey, Sahar was sitting right there next to either Darcy or Tara. (She was sharing a room with them). Tao said he blamed Nick. Nick said that was fair. Charlie said that he was also involved. There was giggling from someone sitting near Sahar.

What they were doing at the prom after party is a British party game. I think most people call is just a the Box Game (but I could be wrong). I played it for the first time a couple months ago. You literally have to take turns picking the box up with your teeth without touching the floor and then it gets ripped to be smaller every round. Super unsanitary. But fun! I didn’t even realize they were playing it until you pointed it out, I haven’t done a full rewatch in my own since I learned how to play XD.

Harry is slowly becoming a more tolerable person because he's learning that being offensive for attention and clout has cost him friends. He still operates with a double-standard - he'll defend his friends (Nick, Imogen), but doesn't give a fig about anyone not in his friend group, and they're fair game for ridicule. He was delighted to make fun of Charlie's hickey when he didn't know who gave it to him, but when he put the pieces together on the Eiffel Tower and realized it was Nick, he pivoted to deflecting attention from Nick in case Nick was eventually willing to be his friend again. He wouldn't have given a second thought to someone calling Elle a b*tch, but Imogen has been an integral part of his friend group, and Ben jeopardized that and drove her away with his behavior. At the party, he gave the apology because it was a prerequisite to getting in the door, but he did realize that he messed up big time with Nick by being so loudly homophobic; now he understands that Nick would have taken it personally. If you watch his eyeline, he makes his apology to Nick, not to Charlie. In fact, the only reason why he wanted to apologize to "Nick and Charlie" is because he understood that Nick and Charlie were now a unit. If he was genuinely remorseful about his saying homophobic things, he would have been apologizing to Charlie and Tao, who were the main recipients of his public harassment and homophobic remarks. So, "I know I've said some homophobic things in the past, but I feel I know better now" is really "I know I've said some offensive stuff before to entertain my boys, but since y'all are not being entertained, but are instead turning on me, I'll stop doing whatever it is that's making you avoid me." So yeah, Harry is just beginning to learn social consequences, and he's willing to say whatever to come out ok on the other end. It's growth of a type, but not true redemption.

Just recently read the book "Nick and Charlie," In a part narrated by Charlie, he says that Harry has come to realize that homophobia is uncool.
He is still loud and obnoxious in other ways and Nick and Charlie think of him as a "knob".
The book "Nick and Charlie" begins when Nick is finishing up Year 13 and Charlie is finishing up Year 12. (So 2 years in the future)
Thank you for talking about your experience with coming out. Mine was very similar, and I was also a it frustrated hearing people complain that this show was too unrealistic for having a story that didn't focus only on trauma.
My mom was always the traditionally nosy Latin American mother (I'm Brazilian). She asked me about my love life way too often, and always complained that I was single. But her question was "do you like any boys? Any girls?" ever since I was a kid. When I was a teen, she showed me The Rocky Horror Picture Show, because it was one of her favourite musicals. She talked about queer authors she loved without straightwashing them. I never came out: when I started dating my first girlfriend, I told my mom, and she just said she wanted to meet her.
Some of my friends had terrible experiences. And I understand how important it is to tell those stories, to try to avoid letting them happen again and again. But it's very nice even now, as an adult, watching something that makes me so nostalgic. Happiness is important too.
I don't usually feel the need to rant but i just have a mini one in me specifically about trauma stories. Growing up black I very much felt like most of the movies and stories were based on the trauma of the black experience. Realizing later I am also bisexual I then found most of the stories about queerness were also based in trauma. I'm so tired of people acting like if it's not traumatic it's not realistic. I'm tired of only seeing stories of the sadness of my existence. Why can't a story of acceptance and joy also be realistic? I love who I am. I find joy with and in my communities. There has been pain and sadness of course but that's not the only realistic story. Why do people treat it like it is?
Rant asside: I keep crying with you as I watch these reviews. I did not expect to have the dead beat dad thing hit me upside the head. I really am going to watch this series now, but im glad I watched the reviews first. Some things on this one would've been really hard to go into blind so thank you for taking me along with you. I look forward to your reviews always

I'm arospec/ace and went into season 2 knowing about Isaac's arc, and it still made me cry like a baby. My journey wasn’t exactly like his, but I still definitely felt that disconnect of being the only one in my friend group who never dated anyone and always being asked about it. I didn’t figure out the ace part until senior year and didn't figure out the arospec part until years later. I guess seeing Isaac get that full validation so early was what got me.
6:21 the stairs aren’t too bad. If you take your time it is kinda fun, seeing everything around you and feeling the wind. Although I wouldn’t recommend it if you are afraid of heights.😅
Taking the stairs up the eiffel tower is not as bad as it's made out to be imo, also you cant take the the stairs the whole way up. If youd want to go to the top, you have to take the lift at some point :)

(Honestly if you wanna something to watch after heartstoper, I have to recomend you ‚SKAM’ (the original). Norwegian series that came out few years ago, it’s not as sweeet as heartstopper but also doesn’t overdramatise the pain , I think they rly wanted to show teen problems from a realistic and down to earts perspective. It speaks ab very symilar topics as heartstopper, including relationships, queerness, s*x, first times, ED, alcohol, friendships, gossip, mental health, racism, identity, etc.)

I walked up to the 2nd floor of the Eiffel Tower and it's because even though we had lift tickets, we went in the wrong line. My butt and thighs were NOT happy! We took the lift to the top from the 2nd floor, after a LONG break. The 2nd floor has shops and places to eat and restrooms. This was in 2021, so I'm not sure if the stairs to the complete top were open or not.

In response to your questions about visiting the Eiffel Tower: There are three platforms that each have food and souvenirs for sale where you can stop to enjoy the view, and you can visit any combination of the platforms that you like, but each level higher you go in the elevator the more expensive the tickets are. Cheaper tickets to take the stairs are available, but it's a lot of stairs (apparently 1,665 to be exact!) so bring your walking shoes!
The animated butterflies that appear during key moments of Elle and Tao's romance were mentioned and I seem to remember that butterflies are a symbol of the transgender community. The idea of metamorphosis is a very resonant image.
I can't wait for the next season to be released! Very much looking forwards to where the story goes next!
The Deep Dive people discuss when and how the filming on the Eiffel Tower happened.
They were filming in autumn but the story takes place in summer, so the cast are 'under-dressed' and get really cold.
So on various levels, they stop, wear warmer clothes and/or blankets and do exercises to warm up.

I understand E5 _was_ filmed in the Louvre but the other people (non-HS cast) were added later digitally. Filming was outside normal hours.
The people who do the Deep Dive videos, explain in more detail where each part was filmed and how and when they were allowed to film in the Louvre, when no visitors were there.
There was a section in the video in which they describe Alice's original drawing of the location (in the Louvre) where Elle and Tao were sitting while Elle began to draw-- and then how the director/photographer et al. worked really hard to position themselves so what we saw on screen matched Alice's drawings.

omg thank you so much for the note regarding isaac being aroace. his storyline made me sob like a little baby at 3 in the morning when i first watched it bc i’ve never felt so validated in my life. it always feels like i’m fake or an imposter or something bc i like the idea of dating and sex but the moment things get past flirting, i’m completely stressed out, i get horrible stomachaches, and just the idea of being tied to a relationship makes me ill. i also get the ick so quickly, someone will say something only slightly questionable and i’m immediately turned off (i know it’s bad, i just can’t help it) so i think it’s safe to say i’m at least on the aroace spectrum. but anyway, his story is so relatable omg i got so emotional seeing a story like this
About a color change in season 2:
Am I off-base in my impression that in season 2, Nick starts wearing pinkish shirts?
In 2x2 when Nick and Charlie meet at the park, Nick's shirt seems to be striped horizontally with pink (and maybe blue or lavender). In part of 2x7 he wears a shirt with wider horizontal stripes of some sort of pink. Later in 2x7, when he and Charlie go to the dinner, Nick is wearing a long-sleeved pink shirt and Charlie is wearing a light lavender t-shirt under his outer shirt.
(In earlier episodes, especially in season 1, Nick's shirts are mainly solidly medium blue )
I bring this up because the new colors are similar to the 'bisexual lighting' they had in, for example, 1x3 (Harry's birthday party) and 1x5 (Charlie's birthday party).

You weren’t really wrong about James being a new character. The *actor* made a brief appearance at the very end of season 1 and had one line, but at that point he was still an unnamed character.
Tao is very silly and I love him! As soon as things finally worked out with Elle he was too distracted to be grumpy and overprotective about Nick and Charlie anymore.
I don’t think Harry is suddenly becoming a better human being, I think his homophobia and bullying was always mostly about clout. He thought he could boost his own popularity by tearing down Charlie and Tao and other kids he saw as beneath him. But now he’s lost Nick’s friendship, he's lost the respect of some of the other rugby boys, he’s not getting invited to the cool party at the end of the Paris trip… I think it’s less that he's had a massive change of heart, more that he's just switching up because his old tactics aren’t getting him clout anymore.
“And in that moment David fell in love” GOD forbid but *very minor spoiler for the This Winter novella* Tori does mention offhand in the This Winter novella that David has repeatedly tried to hit on her (unsuccessfully). You just know he’s the kind of entitled dick who would see her as “challenge.”

Joe Lockett is going to be in Agatha which is a Wandavision spin-off. The main theory is that his going to play teenage Billy Maximoff aka Wiccan(one of Wanda's Son). In the MCU he was introduced with his twin brother as sons wanda created with chaos magic.
Wiccan is a gay superhero who has very similar powers to his mother with a twin brother Speed(Tommy) who is bi.
Wiccan throughout the comics dates and then marries Hulkling(Teddy). People throughout Heartstopper early on pointed out how much Charlie and Nick look like Wiccan(Billy) and Hulkling(Teddy). Alice Oseman also notice and she probably was a fan of Young Avengers since there is mini comic or page where she drew Charlie dressed as Wiccan and Nick as Hulkling for Halloween.
And now Joe who plays Charlie might be playing Billy/Wiccan.
I also find the fact we find other languages attractive interesting. I once had a bit of a crush on someone I worked with because he had a Colombian accent and I found it so attractive when he would talk to our coworkers in Spanish.

Charlie could've just asked someone for makeup to cover the hickey.... I guess maybe none of the boys would've thought about it in the moment, since they don't wear makeup.... And neither Elle's nor Tara's makeup would even remotely match, while Darcy doesn't seem like she really wears makeup, so I suppose borrowing someone's concealer might've been more difficult than one would think.... It can also be hard to cover a hickey without full full-coverage studio/stage makeup, so I guess it probably would've been clearly noticeable or obvious anyways.... Lol just my thoughts 😂

Not to excuse Bi erasure, but unless a person walks around in a Tshirt that says I'm Bi, Actually, the only way you can know for sure if they are gay, straight, or bi is if they tell you, which it is their prerogative whether to tell you or not. Yeah, it's stupid to assume one way or another, but until they have better education in schools, a lot of people are going to remain ignorant about bisexuality.
