Without question, one of the greatest bands I've ever heard. A shame they they only released two albums. Thankfully, these two masterpieces of modern pop still get listened to and have survived. Thank you, Jellyfish!
How did I miss out on this group?? I can't imagine they had an easy time in the 90's. Their sound is so fantastic. The two albums I downloaded are this remarkable combination of Paul McCartney, Queen and the Beach Boys.
I saw these guys on June 29, 1993 in Chicago Illinois. First in the afternoon at Rose records store performing this same acoustic set...and later that evening at the metro...they were absolutely incredible. I got the chance to meet them briefly and they signed my CD of Spilt Milk. They were not arrogant at all, but I wouldn’t have minded if they were, they would’ve had every right to be, they were that good!
Noticed a fun little fact: at 15:30 I’m pretty sure Andy tells Chris and Tim to remove their capos and play ‘Baby’s Coming Back’ a half step down in C natural. The original song is in C# and they were set up to play it that way with the capos on. I’m sure it’s because he was struggling a bit with the high notes; he quips about it a few seconds later. You can also see Eric scoping out the chords just to make sure he’s going to hit his marks. Most musicians can deal with last minute transposition, no biggie there, but through a PA with no monitors (I assume) doing a complex harmony like the “you were riiiight” line, it can be tough to adjust your vocal chords to sing that half step off from what you’re used to. Gotta feel your interval. They friggin nail it, of course.
Great band saw them in sacremento in the 90s it was amazing !! Dig it when he plays the drums standing up and singing !! This band is one of my all time faves !
So gutted I never saw these guys live. Saw Imperial Drag, bought Umajets, love Jason's solo albums, got Lickorish Quartet....... but this is the real deal
Want to hear Jellyfish Part II, sorta? Listen to Lickerish Quartet. Also, listen to Roger's other stuff, Imperial Drag and his solo albums. You're welcome.
I love bands that are creative and can actually sing. Doesn't it seem like a badge of honor many times to be bad? Wish these guys could have found their audience.
The harmonies are freakin top-notch! It's a shame Andy was struggling that particular day with his voice, still, a pleasure to watch this and thanks for sharing @markit aneight!
Bizarrely... Despite living in York... I ended up driving to Manchester with a carful of 6th formers to see and meet Jellyfish... Amazing gig... I love both their albums... So talented and their influence, like King's X, can't be underestimated.
It was the night they were on a UK TV show the had done a prerecorded for... Can't remember which one... We waited outside the venue while they watched it then they were happy to chat afterwards... Nice people too. Really great gig... Just immaculate performers...
You all that got to see them are so lucky! I was such a huge fan. Still sad they didn’t make more albums. They should come back today! One of my all time favorite bands.
No one, and I mean no one should sound as flawless as these dudes do @3:13 when playing live over a book store sound system recorded on vhs tape. These guys are wizards
I first saw them supporting INXS at Wembley Stadium in 1991 & they blew me away. Went on to purchase the Bellybutton & Spilt Milk albums which were exceptional. Absolutely gutted when they split, what a waste of talent.
As great a Queen were as a vocal group, Jellyfish was on another level...albeit, heavily influenced by Queen and other multi vocal groups such as the Brach Boys. Shame the world saw very little of them. Fortunately or unfortunately and depending how you look at it, the arrival of Nirvana sealed their and many other bands fate.

Darin Ames spilt milk is the best album ever 🤤
I agree! They are truly amazing.
Make sure you hear all the demo and assorted other tracks left off their 2 albums. There are enough different songs to make up another album.
Their harmonies were so unbelievably tight. The degree of difficulty is off the charts, and they crushed every chord in the pocket.
Record stores. Book and record stores. Bands with talent. Sigh. Miss all of these things.
The harmonies beginning at 13:50 are just so awesome. So difficult to pull off live like that. Jellyfish was so damn special.
Absolutely. As a pro musician I can attest.
How did I miss out on this group?? I can't imagine they had an easy time in the 90's. Their sound is so fantastic. The two albums I downloaded are this remarkable combination of Paul McCartney, Queen and the Beach Boys.
Yep, exactly. Multiple influences + musical integrity = this. Also, check out the album This Is Hazelville, by Captain.
The best band from the 90’s. And one of the best bands EVER!!
They bring out such strong emotions,,, they make we weep ,,,hard to explain
PULP was the best 90s band. I would put Jellyfish in the top 3.

I was at Metro show as well. Awesome set!
@@frankiemae1302Cool… What an exciting day that was!!
@@cooltheengines absolutely! I remember Andy told Rodger I believe that he looked extra rock n roll that night.
....Jellyfish....One of, if not the greatest band of the early '90s. Only 2 records & not a bad song on either of them.
These guys are wizards. Fantastic performance. Jellyfish forever.
Love this Band...
Came here for the Songs... Loved the Between-Song Banter as well...
How incredibly tight are the live harmonies! Beautiful! Would love to have been there that day 😍🎶👌🏻
This band is worth sharing even today. A lot of work went into their music.............................................
I'm so thankful I got to see them live around 3 times in the 90s. So much talent.
They absolutely killed it. The harmonies are stellar.

Jellyfish in-store. You are a golden God for posting this.
Eric Dover is GREAT!!!!!!!!!! I love this!!!!!!
Good god the harmonies ❤❤❤❤
Even Queen would be hard-pressed to pull off these kind of harmony vocals live.

They’re all great, but Jellyfish was magical. ✌️
So glad there's heaps of cool footage of this sadly lost band, this acoustic set shows a the songs in a really appealing way.
Sturmer has such an incredible voice.....I'm PISSED we havent heard more of it the last 30 years! What say you Andy???
Holy shit I was there. Thank you!!!!
You are very lucky!:)
Dammit, I love them and these songs
I was at the Hollywood Ca., Tower records performance in 1993.
To pull this off live, with basic equipment, is amazing. I can't believe the vocal harmonies are so tight, everything about this is wonderful.
I wished I'd loved him,
Before fate crashed his car.

What?

@@chuckfriebe843 oh ok thank you
I love them so much. I was only 17 when I fell in love with this band, never got to see them live. But I saw imperial Drag and Jason Falkner.
So, from right (stage left) to left (stage right), unless I'm very much mistaken, that's Roger Manning, Andy Sturmer, Eric Dover, and Tim Smith.
I’m normally not a big fan of acoustic sets but this is so good. The vocals on King is half undressed are unbelievably good. What a great performance.
Man I wish I had been able to see this back in 93. Thank you so much for posting!
Stunningly good.
Joining a Fan Club came off particularly sparkling I thought. Thanks again for posting.
Not the best audio but, THOSE VOCALS !! HOLY CRAP !!
I love bands that are creative and can actually sing. Doesn't it seem like a badge of honor many times to be bad? Wish these guys could have found their audience.
@@brianruyack7632 I was such a huge fan! I’m still upset they didn’t continue.
Thank god someone was rolling tape!
One of the best bands ever.
lol. amazing band, amazing performance. so far forgotten and ignored. sad really
I love andys outfit in this he looks so cool I want to recreate it xD
Those vocals. Only Queen on a good day.
Thank you for this!
my love for jellyfish is eternal Funny. Of course the shaker is the hottest instrument in the mix.

His struggling is most singer's best.
I was lucky enough to see them in Leeds (England) on their Spilt Milk tour. Phenomenal!

Really good reminds me lots of the Beatles ' Yes it is ' period from 65 , so many groups in this vein maybe that is why ? ❤
Andy Sturmer is a musical genius.
Andy forgot his drums😆💜
Awesome!!!!!
Tower Records :(
Top shelf!
Wow awesome!
Have loved this band for a long, long time. Anyone know what kind of hat Andy is wearing here?
Seriously Fantastic!! ... Where can I find Shit like this nowadays? ... Yup, ... Nowhere. That's where. ... So Sad ...
Where can I get a hat like that?
Saw them a small venue in Fresno CA. Trying to remember the name of the place. Cadillac club maybe?
