    WOW! This guy just made this so simple. It made the other subnetting I am learning come together too. If you need to find the first and last possible IPs in a subnet, get the last by subtracting 1 from the broadcast. To get the first, subtract the "multiplier" from the "funny" octet in the broadcast and add 0's to any remaining octets except the last one, which is a 1. Well, all that makes perfect sense to me anyway. I love this guy.

    The train stop analogy can be a bit more comprehensive: say if you change 33 to 40 in the 192.168.2.33 example, then you won't miss your train stop, you would hit your train stop, but you still want to go to your next train stop, then get off. This is to hit 40, then go to 48, then do 48-1.

    Isn't the "172" example really 255.255.0.0 b/c "172" is a class B IP address? In your 172.16.20.20 example, you gave a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, which is a class C 192 IP address.

    • @simba1685
      @simba1685 Před 5 lety +2

      Michael Cedeno 172.16.20.20/24 works fine, there is no such rule that says 172 can not have more than a 255.255.0.0 mask.

    • @michaeldizon1641
      @michaeldizon1641 Před 4 lety +3

    Thanks, but I see an exception which is not covered in your training, when the broadcast section value is already greater than IP section value. I still think the method in which one can OR binary form of inverted netmask (Wildcard) and IP, is the easier one to understand.
