1998 is better. It had the eurobeat, it had the cgi cars. That is what made Initial D different from other car anime. 2014 may look better, but it looks generic.
So all together the 3 legend movies are 3 hours in length all together. So if we do some simple math we can find out the First Stage of the Initial D is about 9.5 hours. Let's subtract acts 12, 13, 16, and 20 since they didn't add much to the story and that leaves us with roughly 8 hours. How would the filmmakers compress 8 hours of stuff into 3 hours? Also the races feel much shorter than how they were in the anime. Most would last about an episode and a half while in the legend movies they might be 8-9 minutes at maximum. Of course I know why, it's because they gotta somehow fit all 6 races Takumi has had into 3 movies (Note: They don't have Takumi vs Kenta or against the Sileighty). The legend series has better animation but I like the anime better. P.S. Plus the legend movies don't have eurobeat

The aspect ratio, angle choices and the vintage animation style alone make initial D what it is. But a remaster on the original would be nice.
