  • Hello Everyone! I have decided in 2024 to not put too much pressure on myself when it comes to my reading. I don’t want to be stressed about any reading goals. So, I am going to read and enjoy myself. So, the 4 books I read in January were all very good. The Bee Sting took me a while! Come take a look. .

Teju Cole is a fascinating writer. I've truly never read another writer quite like Teju Cole. "Tremor" is a very compelling book. I've deliberately read a piece of it at a time, so I can really spend time on the density of the ideas in the book. I still haven't finished it, months after I started, because each page is so dense with ideas. Teju Cole also has a couple other books, which are both totally fascinating in their own ways. "Open City" is basically just the interior monologue of a character who takes a book-length walk. "Every Day Is for the Thief" may bear more resemblance to "Tremor," because they both heavily feature Nigeria. Both are well worth reading!

I also read the Bee Sting and loved it but I had to find someone else's explanation of the ending and the foreshadowing within the book that actually lets you know the likely ending to fully appreciate it.

My son gave me The Bee Sting for Christmas, but I've been putting it off because it is soooooo looooong. I need to pick it up. Thanks for the nudge Russell!

It is worth it for sure. I did break it up into sections and read some other things in between. Hope you love it.

Teju Cole is like Jenny Offill and Rachel Cusk. I appreciate Tremor by Cole and want to read it again. Teju Cole's Open City is my favorite novel of the last 5 years.

I hope that I can find his other book soon. I think he may become a new favorite author.

I am working on The Bee Sting right now; I can see why it took you awhile. I'm enjoying it but I find I have to pick up something a bit lighter along with it.
And fear not, ART will return to see Murderbot. 😉

Self Portrait With Boy is on my book shelf. The Bee Sting was great on audio.
