    1:12. THERE! RIGHT THERE! That's what had me stuck for months on this game when I was a kid. I found it when I was giving my grandmother a "tour" of the islands. Then I promptly beat the game. :D

    The biggest puzzle in this game is how those raising/lowering walkways on the golden dome are able to circumvent the simple laws of trigonometry. THEY'RE NOT LONG ENOUGH, PEOPLE!!!

      +Brian Kent I've thought about this many times. To be fair it's one of the few flaws in the (intentional) realism in the game.

      +Brian Kent actually I've forgotten that I myself have thought of a possible solution to the problem; you can't see if this is true or not because you can't look down. But it's possible while down; the bridge extends somewhat into the building over top the floor of the lower part, thus it is long enough to connect with the upper part when it raises.

    Ahhh... memories of changing the CD right about there. Jeez, if there's one small miracle from the ongoing march of technology, it's that I can play Riven without having to awkwardly switch out disks.
    Heck, I have the iOS version. I can play the whole game on a handheld computer now.

    5:39: "Here's another one of those rotating domes. This is the one I said we could have seen earlier, but I......Myst." Intentional?

    When I played, I used the sound when trying to unlock the domes. If you listen carefully, the sound stops playing for a quick second at the yellow spot. If you hit it right there, you get it everytime.

    Another little noteworthy thing, while the Crater island dome is underground sort of, if you look up you see a crater-hole where the sky is visible. This is important because it helps locate the dome in the other puzzle later with the topographical map cordinates.

    I like that you rightly gave quite a bit of emphasis to some of the most puzzling part of the game (like the underwater eye stone), but skipped completely over those damn doors, which are possibly the most "stupid" puzzle in the whole game and where many players got stumped (really, the only hint i can find to this day is: "these doors won't close behind you like any other door in the world of Riven does for some reason) :D...!

  • @LaffeeTaffeeGG
    @LaffeeTaffeeGG Před 11 lety

    I was stuck here forever when I first played because I didn't realize you had to go through the double doors then, close them to see the magical hidden passageways behind the doors. I mean... who EVER looked at those doors and thought "oh there's something behind them!" *TABLE FLIP*

    Now I know in most of the Myst games the worlds are islands based on computer limitations and things. But is there any ages that have full continents and civilizations, or advanced societies, or possibly ruins of a past civilization mentioned in any of the books or Uru? (I have not watched the Uru LP yet I am watching through the games in chronological order)

    • @giovanniciampi8646
      @giovanniciampi8646 Před 4 lety +1

      Well, actually, according to an urban legend the developers of Riven put many cutscenes with live actors in the game as a way of demonstrate that it was not actually technically difficult for them to do so (as some people thought was the case back in the days of Myst). If there is still very little human interaction in Riven, is because the feeling of loneliness and isolation is part of the atmosphere of practically all Myst games, even if that makes little sense when it comes to the setting. Ideally, Riven should be full of people, and while you can see villagers running away when you pass through their turf, it's not clear why Gehn appears to have ordered his minions to stay away from you too. Maybe he hoped he could convince you that Riven is a peaceful and lovely place (which is really not).
      The being said, there are Myst games where you visit Ages that are ideally not deserted. In Myst 4 you visit Serenia, which is supposedly populated, but you still meet about only 2 people, and they still hardly lift a finger to help you (even if it would be in their best interest to do so). Again, that's just the way Myst games works.

    @IgorWelkenbach Před 12 lety

    This game looks like it could really get frustrating at times. And I imagine if you wanted to try different combinations for puzzles (like at the rotatory room or getting around using the batiscaff) you would have to wait every time for the little movie to stop?

  • @Polaf3456
    @Polaf3456 Před 10 lety

    Im seeing a rather large lore/logic gap in this video.
    If all the islands are seperated by wire due to the fact that bridges are illogical with such dispersion activity, then how is crater island and dome island interconnected via bridge.
    I know the bridge raises and doesnt directly connect, but it is somewhat still an issue with the fact that the bridge wouldnt be able to forever reach dome island.

    • @henrywalton5967
      @henrywalton5967 Před 6 lety +1

      Ian Walker I'm pretty sure in Gehns journal he mentions that the islands has appeared to stop shifting so possibly the bridge was built after gehn decided that. Not 100% sure on this
