Love, loved your choices, Krista! Several are books I’ve read & loved, as well. I was so happy to see a Betsy-Tacy on your list! I’ve read the entire series & adore these stories❤️ Loved Fall of Marigolds & Where the Crawdads Sing. I am just now starting The Great Alone & reserved Just Mercy & Hum at my library. Thank you so much!!
It was my first time reading the Betsy Tacy books. It was fun to read through almost the whole series this year. I do still need to read the 3 other Deep Valley books though.
Such great choices. I’ve read some of them but you definitely influenced my 2020 tbr. Thank you.
Sweet. Mission accomplished! Happy reading in 2020!
What a great list Krista! I love that you aren’t stingy with your 5 star ratings. It sounds like you had a fabulous reading year. The Great Alone was one of my favorites for the year too. ❤️
It was SUCH a great year! Here's hoping 2020 is just as good or better!
I love this time of year to reflect. Many you chose have me intrigued and are now either on my library hold list or amazon cart. My top 3: A Gentleman in Moscow, Lost Roses, Us Against You - a good reading year. So glad to have found your channel.
I am glad you found me this year as well. I have heard so much praise for A Gentleman in Moscow, and even though I love Historical books this one never seems to interest me. Weird. I do want to read Lost Roses though, since I loved Lilac Girls.
So many good books! Sweep was my top book this year. LOVED that!
It was an amazing book. I still need to read more from Jonathan Auxier. I think I'll like his other books too.
A great list!
I loved Us Against You and Britt-Marie Was Here, too! Backman is excellent!
Backman has definitely become a fave in the last couple years. I can't wait for more from him!
Great list Krista! I've added a few to my tbr on Goodreads and I think I'm going to read Just Mercy in January - I've been meaning to read it for so long now! Happy new year xxx
I am so glad I finally picked up Just Mercy. It was worth the read. Horrifying and frustrating at times, but an important read too.
What a great list of books Krista! Now I definitely want to read Just Mercym and after you have your synopsis of it, I have someone I know who would probably enjoy it as well. I have Where The Crawdads Sing up next on my TBR, can't wait to read it!! Oh, yes, I'd also like to read Memoirs Of A Geisha, that sounds very good as well, oh, along with A Silent Patient!! So many great books that I want to read in 2020!! I hope you have a Happy, Blessed New Year! 😊💖🎉
I hope you like Crawdads! Happy New Year lovely!
You always encourage me to put books on my TBR
I could say the same to you! :)
Such a WONDERFUL list!! I’m adding SEVERAL to my list. Including We Were the Lucky Ones!!
I think you'll like Lucky Ones. It has been a great reading year for sure!
I'm now on the lookout for Kindred and Walk Two Moons. Thanks for the recommendations!!
You're welcome. I hope you love both of them.
Just Mercy sounds great - I may add it to my TBR for February for Black-a-thon! 💕
That would be a great time to read it! I just borrowed The Sun Does Shine which is the memoir of one of the people Stevenson talks about in Just Mercy. I'm prepared for a tough read as I get a closer glimpse into one of the stories. Yikes.
Yes, love Susan Meissner! I haven’t read all of her books, but I loved all that I’ve read. My book club is reading Kindred for our February meeting, I can’t wait!
I think you'll like Kindred. It's hard to read at times. So disturbing to know people treated other humans so horribly! It's just so hard to wrap my brain around and hard to read about. But Butler does a great job of telling that story.
Thanks for sharing your top books of 2020! I could hear your emotions while talking about your #1 Book, Just Mercy. As you know, the movie is now out and I am looking forward to reading the book before I go to see this movie. Thanks so much for always sharing these books with us. Because of you a a few other booktubers, I have regained my love of reading again and I am so grateful. My top three this year: Children of Blood and Bone, The Nightingale and Firefly Lane. I read 22 books this year!!! My goal was 12. I am very proud of myself and I have you, Sarah and Lindsay to thank for that!
I really would love to see the Just Mercy movie. Maybe I'll see if I can go tomorrow. I am honored to be among those who encouraged you to get back into reading! So so thrilled to hear that! I love that you almost doubled your goal! woohoo!! That's awesome!
I’m in a buddy read for Hum next month; you’ve made me more excited for it!
Awesome! It's such a good story and I love Marais's writing style.
I’m so glad you liked A Fall of Marigolds. I recommend that hidden gem to a lot of people. You’ve encouraged me to move The Great Alone up my list...it’s been on my kindle for far too long! I will definitely be looking for Just Mercy. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to you too! I love reading hidden gem books. I hope you do read The Great Alone soon! It's perfect for winter.
So excited...my first book club read this month is Just Mercy. And in a different book club, we are reading Beartown in April. I am right with you on Grederick Backman. He writes incredible characters as well as fabulous storylines.
Thanks for letting us know your favorites for this year. I have a few five stars...I’m rather stingy with it! For 2019: the Alice Network, This is How It Always Is, and How Not to Die Alone. Very different, but all wonderful and made me feel all the feels
I meant to read The Alice Network with the readalong last summer, but never got to it. I will most definitely read it this year. I have How Not to Die Alone on my shelves too. Hope to pick that one up this year too. Here's hoping for even more 5stars for both of us in 2020!
I have several of the books you mentioned on my TBR list. Tfs.
Awesome. Which are you most excited to get to this year?
Sweep was such a good story! I'm glad I read it. I wouldn't have even heard of it if not for Middle Grade March :) I need to read Us Against You. Bear Town was a five star read for me and I want more of that story!
I am having fun looking through MG books for this year's readalong. Not sure what it will be yet, but Sweep was definitely a hit! You definitely need to read Us Against You if you haven't yet. It picks up right where Bear Town left off and just as good if not better!
You chose some amazing titles here, Krista! I need to re-visit Mr Backman (Loved Beartown!) and Kristin Hannah (Loved many by her!). Walk Two Moons & Sweep hav been moved up on my TBR, I have been wanting to read these for quite sometime. Geisha has been showing up a lot for me lately, perhaps a sign! I would also like to give Michaelides a try - I love a good thriller! Happiest of New Years to you! I look forward to another year of your enjoyable and rich channel! Xx
Definitely move up Walk Two Moons! I had been putting it off because I hate the cover, but it was SO worth the read. And Sweep was just lovely as well. Obviously I like all of these books and think you should read all of them! haha Happy New Year to you too!
We are book twins. The ones I haven’t read yet are going on my TBR. Thanks Krista!!!!
Love it!! What were some of your faves of the year?
I have been in a slump but I’m your 5 stars may bring me out of my slump. Currently reading Before We were yours
Yay my favorite Backman made your list!
Sometimes I think all of his books are my fave. I just can't get enough. Heard a new one is coming out in fall of 2020!
Good Morning Krista!! I think my favorite book of the year was The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah. I just loved the story so much. My heart went out to the girl in this book. Seems like you read a lot of great books. Might have to add some of them to my ever growing TBR. Hope you had a Merry Christmas. Happy New Year and God Bless
The Great Alone was a heavy read in a lot of ways, but I love Kristin Hannah so much! Happy New Year to you too!
Great list. I read several of the same books. I also was greatly affected by Just Mercy.
Great minds think alike!
Great video!! Just got hum if you don’t know the words and is against you from book outlet and I’m excited to read! Agree a lot Kristen Hannah, she’s amazing!
I just ordered Us Against You from Book Outlet on Boxing Day. So glad I'll finally own that one. I am glad I still have quite a few Kristin Hannah books to read. I will be sad when I'm at the end of her catalog of books.
I’m so glad you enjoyed Memoirs of a Geisha 😊❤️ It’s been a favorite since I was about 16! Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy Just Mercy’s style-although it did show me some very disturbing things!! I think I’m going to try The New Jim Crow.
Watership Down, The Little Prince, The Twenty-One Balloons, and A Grief Observed were some of my favorites this year.
I have not heard many talk about 21 Balloons, but my IRL friend Lisa loved it. I am hoping to get to more CS Lewis this year. I started collecting a certain edition of his from Book Outlet so I'm feeling inspired to pick them up. Here's hoping! I watched your review/vlog of Just Mercy and could understand where you're coming from. I just get so caught up in it that I don't come at it with a critical eye. That's true for most books. It's just how I read I guess!
@@BooksAndJams C.S. Lewis almost always blows me away 😍📚
I'm so glad you found Just Mercy helpful! I think I often read the same way you described, but certain topics really niggle at me. Thanks for watching my vlog 😁 That was really nice of you!
There are some awesome books on your list. "Just Mercy", "If You Want to Make God Laugh", "Us Against You", "Silent Patient" are definitely going on my tbr for next year. "Hum if You Don't Know the Words" was my top favorite read of 2019.
I hope you do get to read most of those! They're so fantastic! Hum was SUCH a great book. I can't wait for more from Bianca Marais!
I read 10 of the Maisie Dobbs books this year and really got hooked on that series. I read 100 books this year and I have very few stand out books. Hoping 2020 is more successful in terms of loving the books I read. Great list!!
10! I'm impressed. Sometimes I wish I binged series like I binge Netflix shows. haha. I hope you have a better reading year in 2020 as well.
BooksAndJams I just flew through those audiobooks! I don’t watch a ton of tv but now I’m hooked on outlander so binging book series is on major hold. :)
They all sound great, the ones I read were all 4 or 5 stars for me. Actually Memoirs of a Geisha was my second favorite book of 2019 😉
I want to read Sweep so much among those.
I know my reading is going to be so great this year!! I think you'll enjoy Sweep. It's so lovely!
My favorites were Lost Roses, The Chestnut Man, City of Girls, and Skyward. I definitely want to add Just Mercy to my 2020 tbr now.
I don't own Lost Roses or City of Girls yet but both are on my to read list on Goodreads. Happy New Year!
I’m in line for the audio of Just Mercy, hoping to read it before seeing the movie. I’m glad to see it as one of your top 10 for the year. I’ve also added several of your favs for 2019, yes I made a list. 😬
I can't wait to see the Just Mercy movie. It's going to be pretty emotional I imagine. Definitely try to read the book first. Glad I could add to your tbr list! :)
I love that you shared all your five star reads! I am so happy Walk Two Moons made your top ten, I love that book as well. I have many books on my TBR list this year that I heard about from you first.
It's always so hard to narrow down favorites. So I chose to show a whole bunch of great books from the year. Made picking 10 a bit easier. Always glad to add to your tbr! :)
Sorry to be off topic but does any of you know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account..?
I stupidly lost my password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me
@Benedict Samir instablaster ;)
@Baker Colton thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and Im in the hacking process atm.
Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Baker Colton it did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much, you saved my account :D
As hard as it will be to read, Just Mercy has now been added to my TBR! I'm waiting to figure out and film my top books until the year is over. Trying to squeak out a few more books in 2019!
I just borrowed a book from the library that the memoir of one of the people talked about in Just Mercy. I know it will be another hard read, but I've heard it's so good. I want to read it close to finishing Just Mercy. It's called The Sun Does Shine by Anthony Ray Hinton.
Walk Two Moons made me cry! I love that book! I've got to read Just Mercy.
Me too! Such a great story.
You read so many good books! My top read this year was Madonna in a Fur Coat by Sabahattin Ali.
So many! It's true. What a fantastic year 2019 was for reading. Here's hoping 2020 is even better for both of us!
I am pretty frugal with my five stars.. last time I gave five stars to a novel was in October 2018. :D This year wasn't such a great reading year for me..unlike 2018 when so many of my reads were 4 stars and several 5! But I am very excited for the 2020 and my want-to-read shelf has been cumulating a lot of new books. I'm happy that you loved The Silent Patient - I got it for Christmas! :)
I know so many are frugal with their 5 stars. I hope your 2020 reading is much better! And I hope you enjoy The Silent Patient! I
Just bought a copy of Hum if you know the words a couple weeks ago at a dollar tree near me because of your recommendation looking forward reading it next year
You found Hum at a Dollar Tree! Whoa! Sweet find!
I still have Just Mercy on my nightstand! I NEED to get it read. Our system is good and better than a lot of other countries, but it's definitely flawed. Humans are flawed. I'm looking forward to reading it and hopefully we can come up with some improvements. thank you for sharing all of your five star reads! You've had a great year.
Our system is most definitely flawed and it is so frustrating to read about! I am blessed that it isn't a part of my every day life, but that doesn't mean I should ignore it for those who have to deal with it all the time. Just Mercy is eye opening and worth the read for sure.
@@BooksAndJams completely agree.
I feel like I am seeing Frederick Backman everywhere lately! I really need to try one of his books.
He's one of my all time faves so I'd definitely say give him a try, but I will say he doesn't work for everyone. I have heard a few say they didn't like his books (which breaks my heart, but what can you do). haha. I would love to hear what you think!
My favorite fiction for the year was Where The Crawdads Sing. My favorite non-fiction was Being Mortal. They were awesome books!
I did love Crawdads! Someday that will be on my shelves. :) I have wanted to read Being Mortal for quite a while, but never seem to pick it up! Maybe this is the year!
I knew Just Mercy would be on your list. I’m still trying to get myself to read it. I recently read The Sun Does Shine. The connection is Bryan Stevenson is the lawyer that finally gets Anthony Ray Hinton out of prison. That book shook me. I’ll read Just Mercy at some point.
I am adding The Sun Does Shine to my tbr on goodreads right now. I know it will be heartbreaking and infuriating, but I would love to read it soon after finishing Just Mercy. Thanks for the rec.
I LOVE Kristin Hannah too. I'm sure she would make my top ten list too.
Oh man. Hannah just gets right to my heart every time!
My favourite new stand alone read this year was Ready Player One. My fav series I read was A Court of Thorns and Roses Series.
I loved Ready Player One a couple years ago. I read The first two Maas books in that series, but really don't like her writing style so I never finished.
I have My Grandmother Told Me to Tell You She's Sorry on my list - planning to read Britt Marie in 2020. Another on my top 10 that you might enjoy is A Constellation of Roses. I still think about that one.
Thanks for the recommendations. I added it to my to reads list on GR. It does sound like something I would really enjoy!
When I first listened to this video, I was thinking I am stingy with five star reads. I went back to my journal and checked it out.. Out of 67 books read I gave 22 five stars. That really surprised me. Some them were the same as your five stars.....mostly the middle grade. (I am thankful I joined in for Middle Grade March.)
I am planning on reading Big Little Lies, Memoirs of a Geisha, We Were the Lucky Ones and Britt-Marie Was Here first thing in 2020.
22 out of 67! You had a fantastic reading year! Gotta love those middle grade books! I think I will end my year reading a middle grade tomorrow...the second Vanderbeekers book.
Just Mercy was an amazing book!
100% agree with you!
I didn't have all that many 5 star books and it isn't because I am stingy with 5 stars the majority of what I red was far from 5-star worthy. but I did have a handful of great books that I gave 5 stars to. . The top contender was Daughter of Molokai'i. It was the sequel of Molokai'i, also a 5 star read and by Alan Brennert.
I definitely plan on reading Moloka'i this year. Glad to hear you loved it and its sequel. Hope you have many more 5star reads this year!
I really need more Bachman!!!
Girl, you and me both!
Second video today that mentioned Just Mercy. I had already added it but now it gets a double vote.
Oh boy. It is a heavy read, but I am so glad I read it. Finally! ha. IT sat on my shelves for way too long.
I need to read Just Mercy, but I know it will break me... And Im not sure I can handle that right now....
Just Mercy was a book I had to take slow. Some were flying through, but I just had too many emotions. You're wise to save it. It's infuriating and heartbreaking at the same time and so often I just felt so helpless to do anything to change it. Still so worth the read.
