Why she cried? She was so very calm before because of all the trauma, she lost her ability of feelings. Her life caused her to lock away her emotions and not care. She had always been suppressing her emotions. He made her feel safe to open up to him. Those tears were releasing the many years of trauma that had built up in her soul. By crying away she cleansed her soul, all because he made her feel safe. And he comforted her and hugged her, allowing her to cry until she has released all of her trauma. I think that this scene alone is what makes this anime great.

This is my favourite anime this season. They are pretty much the same person. However he fought his way out of the situation while she didn't.
