- I'm so happy to be able to share this with Paul himself. Paul and Kathy were trained at the Broadmoor World Arena by none other than two-time world champion Doreen Denny who was the second partner of Courtney Jones. Courtney invented the Starlight Waltz with Peri Horne in 1963 which is the dance performed here at the 1969 Midwesterns.
N.B. The footage is silent cinefilm and I have done my best to align the footage with the music. - Sport
Lovely work Flo. You can’t beat the traditional, proper Compulsory Dance music. Her beehive would've given Princess Margaret a run for her money!
Boy figure skating sure has come a long way in the past 50yrs!!
I love that this popped up in my suggestions again! Loveya, Paul!
Thank you once again, FLO. You are a very resourceful person. I am beyond disappointed (British understatement) they've removed any trace of the compulsory dances from Ice Dance now.
Resourceful? Never thought of myself like that but I'll take it! Agree on the compulsories, it's a tragedy but they're alive and well in the rinks during practice and I love hearing the old tunes when I'm skating.
ok !!!
Meravigliosi !
It's wonderful that you can track down and post this film footage. I would have been 13 at the time and I remember watching figure skating on ABC's Wide World of Sports. That's the only place you could see it in the US. And usually you only got partial performances of the top three medalists.
Wonderful!
