    Sis did her thing! From a male's perspective I know how difficult that is, because I was thrust into mommy mode when my child's mother passed away. I was either going to be paying nearly $100 every 2 weeks to get my daughter's hair done, or I was going to learn how to do it myself. My current fiancee literally only stopped to talk to me because she wanted to know who did my daughter's hair.

    When I was little, my grandmother would have her friends braid my hair. Would have 2 people working on it and it'd take hours to complete. They'd also do the same with Henna designs on my back or arms and legs. I used to hate waiting for them to finish (ofc being so young) but loved the end results

    I'm not surprised that her customers are happy. it might be a good business model to specialise in really flashy braids like that, because those cause a lot more people to ask the customers about them, so they're very good advertisement. you could even factor that into the price and offer intricate braids at a reduced hourly rate if you don't have enough customers yet.

    ^She is amazing! So i don't know about braiding, but doesn't braids this tight like this hurt the hair in the long run? I know they say many POC lose their hair early on in life due to all the work they have done on their hair and tight hairstyles. But, braids in general can cause traction alopecia.

    • @nellieken
      @nellieken Před 2 lety +5

      I'm Nigerian and braids like this are our culture we've been doing them for thousands of years and I can offer some insight. Ive been getting my hair braided since as early as I can remember. Braids can cause traction alopecia if done incorrectly. The technique of the braider matters.
      One, getting your hair braided should not hurt. The braider should not be pulling and tugging to tightly that it hurts. That's the mistake that a lot of braiders make that causes the alopecia. If it hurts, it's causing follicle damage. You can still have neat braids without yanking hair.
      Two, braids are intended to be worn long term. They are a high manipulation style because there's a lot of parting and moving the hair. The advantage is that you manipulate your hair a lot once and then don't do anything to it for months. I carry my braids for about 3 months on average.
      Three, braided hair doesn't stop needing care. It's easier to care for hair in braids but the hair doesn't stop needing care. That's what often causes hair loss. People braid their hair and think it doesn't need any care at all. Braided hair still needs to be moisturised, the scalp still needs oiling, and the hair still needs to be washed.
      Lastly, take down technique matters. You have to be gentle and make sure the hair is moisturised when taking them out. So many people are too rough with their hair and our hair type can be very fragile and prone to breakage.
      All in all, braids in and of themselves font cause hair loss, it's the lack of care and knowledge on how to properly install, wear and take them down that does.
      Braids actually helped me grow my hair and fill out my lost edges. I just had to learn to start doing them properly.

    • @clisaa6974
      @clisaa6974 Před 2 lety +1

      @@nellieken wow that is all really cool info! I think the skill and technique people have to do braids is amazing. I’m from the US and I think from watching the media and watching other POC talk about their hair loss it always made me wonder about braids and how they help the hair if POC end up balding early on in life. ( but that must also have to do with other things they do with their hair besides braids! And if they have braids as you said it has to deal with who’s doing them and their technique)

    • @missbstuurman
      @missbstuurman Před 2 lety +1

      Im South African and have been braiding my hair since I grew hair up my scalp. And my hair is past shoulder length. Like the first comment said it's all about technique, besides perming and relaxing hair also contributes to balding.
