Before I see the video I just want to say Thank you for picking up the Trash and help making the earth a better place. It really does help. That’s one thing I always do when out hunting. Again thank you.... ok back to the video.
Of course! It's obviously not a "look at me..yay" kind of thing, just hoping to inspire people to bring a baggy along or something to help clean up.
Agate Dad I know, I thought about doing the same thing one day to hope inspire others. If we all did it every time anyone went out that would help so much. Anyone that does pick trash up deserves a Thank you.
So nice to hile about with you. Makes this " mature" ole' lady want to go scan some creeks. Thank you for sharing your adventures.
I’m loving the little agate with the crazy amount of banding! Great finds!! The intro was fun!! Hi Rookie!!
I love that you are collecting the garbage as you go. Thank you for that!!!
Get job Taylor. enjoyed the rock hounding, scenery and good humor! Nice video shooting!!
You crack me up.... footsteps .....in the forest.
I probably would have been spooked too.
Dude, so freaking relatable. Your voice cracked before you cleaned that piece off and I realized I’m not crazy. I know that feeling.
Great spot & finds! Love the chalk art and dog hair. I know both of those well. lol
Haha my life revolves around dog hair and more runs for more chalk! Thanks Jen 😊
Dude!!!! I’m at 7:32 and in my head I’m like...” no way! Taylor’s got his CREEK EYES ON!!!!!” You found your creeks eyes brother! Hells to the flippin yes man! Mud and residue galore as well! Damn straight dude! Damn straight!
Cut it! Cut it! Right in half yo!
Haha, sorry man, just excited. Gonna keep watchin now!
Citric/vinegar those bad boys! You wait man!
Hahah!! My creek eyes! Love it 👍👍 yeah its such a good feeling when you know you're starting to see them, you know what I mean!
Agate Dad
Yeah man, in my vid, I had my creek eyes closed like fort nox haha!
But dude 12:59, CUT!
13:35 stunner!
Hahaha fort now 🤣 and gotta cut it! I think I might swap it out with that big moss agate...i don't think I have the heart to do it yet for the moss!
Agate Dad
Okay man, try pure vinegar with that one 15:15. An hour or so and bam! Stains are gone! Or citric acid. It’s in the baking isle in the grocery store. It’s cheap and super effective! It’ll get it clean as!
I'll try that, I was going to give it a soak in muriatic since I have a jug, I'd love to try citric acid though!
Awesome video. I love it when you share the view (the ferns, animals, etc). We (my 8 year old daughter and I) loved it when you shared the chalk from your kid and your dog! Funny and cute! Thank you for the video!
he picks up a piece of moss and says "natures scrub brush" and a burst out laughing for like 5 minutes! great video!
Very nice finds. I appreciate how you give us the time needed to actually see each of your finds instead of rushing to the next one. It makes it so much more Enjoyable to spend a few seconds looking at them and seeing how beautiful they are. 😊.
Thanks for doing your part in cleaning up the creek! You're awesome! you are blessed with some awesome finds!
That little many banded agate, big intake of breath from me, so gorgeous. Looking forward to the upcoming cutting vid, keep safe, ask Bentley for protection lol. 👍🏻
Hes the biggest coward so hes of no help lol plus he just got nuetered so he's wearing a cone and is all groggy and basically just sleeping all the time right now! Poor guy!
COOL!!!
It’s only wildlife! 🤣 Not a bad haul. Very pretty. Nice shot of the fern.
Not worried about wildlife lol just heard footsteps and could see anything, coukd be a bear up on those woods!
How can anyone dislike these videos! People have too much negativity in them! Thanks for bring us along on this cool creek. Awesome that you clean up the area as well.
Dude...just had to stop for a sec... I totally get the creepy footsteps when I'm out by myself too. But for me where I'm at...i'm always worried its a mountain lion stalking me. I'd be a great snack for one of them lol😹
Hey Agate Faaather! 😊 So you saw footsteps 😊😁😀
Certainly glad you went back to that spot...& yeah that small agate certainly has amazing banding...good one👍 I look forward to seeing them cut.
Ah ha ha!.. wait till your little munchkin draws on the walls lol. Tc catchya on the next one! ✌
Yeah i was a little excited seeing the deer and it wasn't some axe murderer or a bear haha so yes, I saw footsteps 🤪 haha the side of our house has chalk EVERYWHERE!!!
😀😅🤣 the dog hair~ i love going with you to look for rocks~ i am working on trying to get back on my feet again to go looking for rocks myself. but it's slow going. so i was so happy to find your channel and you take us with you~ Thank you so much for sharing~ i love your cutting as well~ it's like opening up presents to see beautiful pictures and all of them are unique
My like number 413 friend. Hermosas rocas y piedras. Cada una cuenta una historia geológica particular. Saludos desde Chile.
America sure has a lot of wilderness left. I would love to explore the woods. Beautiful rocks!
It sure does, the North and South Shores of Superior are beautiful, Google Apostle Islands 👍👍
@@AgateDad That's a beautiful place. My sister lived in Wisconsin for 15 years I bet she didn't know that was there. The lighthouse looks like a rocket ready to take off. Looks at some of the other islands like Bear Island. Not much there.
Have you ever considered just taking a thin slice off with the saw where you see the banding, but the rest of the stone is pitted on the same side? Just to show more banding if it is there? Yep, it is the impatient one wanting you to start up the saw LOL!!!!
Haha i thought about it and thought about you mentioning this prior, soooo tempting!
Super
I never great video from you me and keep up the good work those rocks were pretty interesting
The footsteps. Happened to me the other day out in the woods. Turned out to be a fawn. See him once in a while. I named him Fawn Boy.
Citric acid works well with creek scum too. I use cleaning vinegar which is a good alternative to MCA too. Nice hunt and good finds. Haqvagudun DAD lol
Those are all beautiful agates you found. I think my favorite one was that small tiny one will all those bands. I can’t wait till you next video when your cutting into them.
Nature's scrub brush, good one! I have to tell you,I have learned more about rocks from you than all the other channels I watch! Amazing. What is river burn?
Well that is a compliment! I always look up to the other channels for their immense knowledge! River burn is basically staining thay has occurred on the rock. Not the best explanation of it but simple enough lol
😊 enjoy your shows. Thank you😊😊
Beautiful agates and jaspers Taylor. A successful hunt for sure. That last one you said you may cut in half, you might be able to cut a few slices to see from both sides. Keep the videos coming!
Good karma picking up others trash!
I usually have good luck on my finds from doing that also!
I wish i had more time to do more trash cleanup, theres never enough time to get it all done
I've done vinegar soaks and that helps with that river burn, but I haven't heard you say anything yet about dawn dish soap and a toothbrush. If you've never tried that, give it a go. 👍
The bigger one that you found that you were excited about where the bands are there’s a perfect triangle look up triangles that’s powerful. Also buy yourself some citric acid on Amazon and soak your rocks they will look completely different it cleans like no tomorrow. I got that from Rookie 💜🤎
Agate Dad Muriatic acid does work well but it’s horrible for the environment and it’s dangerous for you citric acid works just as well check it out on Amazon. Or somewhere else if you don’t want to make Jeff Bezos even richer.
Agate Dad I personally think the safest way is not in a container in the trash but a small area where no one goes and put it into the earth, the earth will transform it and neutralize it. I just don’t use it anymore.
That metal scoop is brilliant. I'm getting one of those.
Love my creek hounding! 😊
Nice hunting spot....wow...
Nature....cleaning up trash...more agates....😊 🦟 with helicopter sound effects...lol!
eyyy. i am always looking forward for your uploads. keep up the good work bro.
from Philippines
Such a beautiful place to rockhound 😍 Do i hear a familiar Aussie in the intro?😉😄😄😄Happy rock hounding!!!
You're so funny!!! "I told you I saw foot steps" I think some of us hear footsteps, but not agatedad.
Oh i was so worked up I got all tongue tied!! I knew someone would catch that! You and my wife are on the same page 🤣🤣
Love the bands, looks like tree sections
Great video! you are truly a great inspiration Thank you!
Parallax banding is the term you were looking for. An iris agate is one that when cut thin shows a rainbow.
Your channel is my favorite Lake Superior Agate focused channel. Its amazing to see how far you've come in finding the agates from your first video. Its awesome to watch unfold!
Thank you so much!!! It really is a good laugh looking back at that video but honestly thats where everyone should start! I appreciate those days and still pick those little ones up lol my wife will say "you're keeping that?!".... ummm yeahhhh!
That was fun. 6:20 WOW! 7:40 WOWWIE. Being one with nature sure pays off. Beautiful finds and awesome clean up to brother, thank you.
some nice finds well done
I have some basalt like yours and I am going to cut some of it tonight when it cools off. You need to get some deep woods off to put on and go back to that spot again you found some nice stuff there. Great video.
Good luck with the cuts! I was wearing some heavy duty stuff. It worked for about an hour and then I think I sweated it off lol
I swear the skeeters up here in northern MN think deep woods is salad dressing. I have never found anything that really works. Dad used to wear dog flea and tick collars around his wrists and pant legs for the ticks when he was morale hunting.
9:25 soak that in your strongest acid! Lol! I couldn't believe you were scrubbing in that little spot I was thinking "the mosquitoes must be chewing you HARD!"
@@AgateDad I believe it! I'm going to start soaking some of my steep rock finds in muriatic, I'll do some videos on it soon.
I was actually going to soak some fire agates/white chalcedony in some acid i just bought too! Just so you know I'm not copying lol I should have done the video a month ago!
@@AgateDad Awesome! Hahaha it's not copying me, people been using it to clean rocks for a loooooong time! I look forward to the results!
Great finds, looking forward to the cutting video. Also, love your son’s artwork. 😍
Bentley! How dare you have a beautiful silky coat that gets on wet rocks! What a sweet doggie face. Gosh, watching your videos lately I just can't get Rookie Rockhound out of my mind! It's easy to picture him wandering that creek with you. I didn't know that the coating on your big agate was called river burn, but it makes sense. There's sure no mistaking your Minnesota agates with their very fine banding. What have you learned about their formation? Thanks for a great video, love the ferns. 🌿
Yesss bentley, he actually just got neutered yesterday...so he's being treated even more like a prince haha ive learned quite a bit in the last year! Its been so fun!
Wow lovely rock and a deer and alll that nature :) Please tell your son I think he is quite the artist and I hope never stops drawing :) Scritches for Bentley . Much love and many gentle hugs for the whole family :)Look forward to seeing the rocks cut and to seeing them when they are polished :)
Beautiful rocks! I've had luck getting river stain off with Iron Out, using the method to clean Quartz.
That would be interesting! Maybe cut a few dirty rocks in half and then compare the differences?!
I wouldn't ber afraid of the grouse or deer, but you may have a stalker..... unless your alter ego has an accent.🤣nice scores!
Haha more of the footsteps that creeped me out, glad to know it was harmless wildlife, you never know, it could have been a bear up there!
15:25 you might upgrade to muriatic and a steel brush. Neither will hurt agate.
I’ve tried vinegar, citric acid and iron out but they never seem to get the whole job done. And they deteriorate any basalt. I’m a little afraid of muriatic acid, but I think it’s time to upgrade.
@@TinaHyde It's a little more dangerous to work with compared to those other acids you mention (and iron out, I can't remember what that is, but I know you can put calcite in it, so I don't think it's overly acidic), so make sure to use gloves and eye-protection. It will also deteriorate basalt. After I soak things in muriatic, I neutralize by soaking for a few hours in a baking soda solution. This tends to eliminate the yellowing that can otherwise stain. Do it in a well-ventilated area (preferably outside). Don't hesitate to ask any questions, and best of luck!
Holy toledo making agate videos are tough! I have 2 in the making but putting it all together is way different than doing a Trout video
also, I found a new way to clean those had to clean agates stumbled across it yesterday after I tried it and it worked great
Just found some dinosaur foot prints in creek bedrock hunting for agates in the Central Highlands Queensland Australia. Going to Tomahawk creek in 2 weeks to find me a a Tomahawk tiger Sapphire, check it out. In the next few days I will be getting some moulds of the big lizard foot prints . Rockhounding is so much fun and exciting you never know what you'll find. Love your videos its like rockhounding from home. Thanks Mate
Get out of here Dennis!! Are you serious?!?! Please send me pictures! And thank you so much 😁
@@AgateDad I will send some photos in the next few hours, they are on my young fellas camera and its 5:30am here and he was out having a few last night.
;
Queue the sifting music!
What do you use for the mosquitoes? They are a huge deterrent for me. Even the wimpy city ones drive me mad.
Good soul for cleaning up the trash. Nothing can spoil a mile of north woods scenery faster than a piece of refuse.
Hey I can relate to the "once you get creeped out" feeling. The deer and grouse were there to protect you I think . Hee hee.
But maybe.
Good times as always thanks!!
PS isn't it pure marvel how a fallen tree is still so beautiful?
Gorgeous scenery!
I used deet, definitely not a lot but it helped with ticks, im toing to try s peppermint concoction for mosquitos though, ive heard that makes them go away! Yeah i wasn't worried about the deer or grouse, just couldn't see them and only heard footsteps haha sigh of relief when I saw those gentle creatures!
Sweet finds - and beautiful Minnesota scenery! Your videography gets better and better - nice work. :)
Now that I'm not trying to pump out a video EVERY DAY, I'm working on improving my film-making techniques as well. Watch my new rock polishing video if you get a chance - it's short, but probably will make you laugh. :D
I like your channel, videos are clean, quality is good, no extra fuss on the agates, it's just natural, I like it! Did you ever consider comming to gaspésie in canada? It's FULL of agates. I have bags and bags at home from there
I have a location like this be very careful with the black ones..... They can be very much agate... I would suggest to take a uv flashlight with you... Also the jaspers as well I have found some very pretty pieces that are with in the jasper.
Super easy to get rid of all that "river burn" aka manganese staining. As you did soak the agate in soapy water for 12 hours, scrub it with a brush to remove all the dirt, second soak in Citric acid for 12 hours. You can buy powdered citric acid...it's completely safe and used in foods. The citric acid works quite a bit better than vinegar.
@@AgateDad Yes - I just buy the powdered form off of Amazon. I originally started cleaning agates with Muriatic acid to remove all the manganese...but that stuff made me nervous. The Citric acid works just as well and is way more safe.
Yep, when you are creep ed out you see foot steps...Be at one with nature old friend.
I forget about the density of the forest, and the Minnesota bugs.
I've been doing some rock hunting for petrified wood and agates in North Dakota.
I’m trying but I still can’t tell the difference between agates, quartz and chalcedony! I live in Indiana and have only been to the UP twice and only had a few hours on the Lake Superior south shore so am looking forward to a longer trip one day soon! And gotta look for yooperlites too!!
Quartz in itself is...quartz.. Chalcedony is microcrystalline quartz and can come in different varieties, agates, jasper and chert. Agates are usually translucent but can be opaque, jasper and chert are always opaque. At least I have never seen any translucent chert or jasper. I've read there all chalcedony but the different characteristics of them make them what they are.
What kind of ferns are those?
I live 8n central wisco and am trying to get started into lapidary work.. I have buckets full of awesome random stones and crystals and also quite a lot of pet wood.. im working on building a cabbing machine using an old washing machine motor. Just have to be able to afford all the grinding/polishing wheels I need.. and I really need a saw.. any suggestions on brands of wheels or blades?
I don’t have a cabbing machine but I have a flat lap, not as cheap as a home build but a lot easier to acquire
@@AgateDad right.. I can't afford 2k for a simple machine thats essentially just an upgraded bench grinder lol.. but the wheels alone are expensive. Ive been using a dremel and drill to cut using a 3.5" diamond blade meant for a rotozip.. and then a glue to a nail and put it in the dremel or drill and spin while using hand held diamond grit sanding pads.. I made my first cab last week and it turned out great. Now I'm trying a piece of pet wood.. it was 10 times harder to cut than the last piece which I dont even know what it was.
Hey Agate Dad, check out Mark Bowen’s Channel. The video he posted was from 5 years ago, “Beautiful Waterwashed 16.55 oz Lake Superior Agate,” shows what kind of “bigger” agates when have in E.U.P. of Michigan. Like I’ve said earlier, the big “pounders” are rare over here, but they exist. Most of the agates here are about the size acorn and walnuts, but they’re water-washed and beautiful. The three “pounders” that my GF found were about the same size as the one in Mark Bowen’s video.
Agate Dad, let me know what you think. Mark Bowen is my cousin, and our cousin Noah, introduced us both to Agate Hunting. Around the EUP, Noah is kind of the “agate guru,” and is pretty much the guy everybody goes to for all things Agate.
Saba...Bigfoot?? who knows... thanks for picking up the trash that some fools leave...
When I'm rock hounding alone with no cell service and get creeped out, I figure at least I can throw rocks at whatever is stalking me! Not the good rocks, of course.
Thanks for joining me on this adventure 😊 Don't forget to subscribe czcams.com/users/agatedad
What do you call the hand held sifter tool you use?
