Yes, the Doge 10 (that's Doesh, not Dodge) has the same functionality. I have the MKIII, based on a review and recommendation from Thomas. I like that it also has two Subwoofer connections, which many amps do not have. The tweaks that Thomas worked with Doge to incorporate into his version are cool too, like the tone control. Doge now is onto version 4, but I think the Gallion still has some differences., especially with some of the internal components It really is an impressive amp, and the best tube amp I have ever had. For me, it has the sound I like, and compared to McIntosh or Cary Audio and other similar, it's a fraction of the price.

The back is where it gets interesting , and don't understand why the official website even does not have a picture of that .
There is a TAPE OUT ....now that is unique for a tube int amp , now I can hook up my ReVox reel-to-reels & it has a SUB OUT which you can use as mono or stereo .

Hi Ron, the "Auto" functions for Tube BAIS, Class A and Class AB switching are a Plus for Galion and maybe Thomas has learned from PrimaLuna EVO line that is the real deal on "Adaptive AutoBias", Triode/Ultra-Linear Switching seamlessly in real time (from remote) and Bad Tube Indicators thru Adaptive AutoBias that puts the Amp into protection mode (no service call), replace with a New Tube and you're off. Another PrimaLuna feature, you can run the Amp with EL34, 6550, KT66, KT77, KT88, KT90, KT120 and KT150's and if you like (not sure why) put any Tube into one of 8 slots (4 Tubes per Mono Design = 8 Tubes) and the Amp would AutoBias and run. I look forward to your review on Galion TS120SE.

One thing I find odd about this amp after reading the manual is that you should not lift it from the side panels as they are wood and attached with small screws and might break off. I think it would be extremely awkward especially with tubes inserted to move the amp around if one had to grasp it from the front where all the knobs and controls are and the back where all of the inputs etc. are. I suppose if it was always placed on an open shelf top with nothing above or on the side this wouldn’t be as big an issue. Just seems like an odd compromise when so much thought was given to the other aspects of the amp. With all of the space age adhesives and fastening techniques available seems like this could’ve been avoided.

Ron, I think you need to do a little more research as you indicated, the features you so admire are by Mr. Zey LIU of Doge Audio and are a standard feature of their Doge 10 amplifier. Credit to Thomas, he took the Doge 10 and had it tweaked to his requirements, but it's still a Doge 10. Doge have also made some nice improvements on their new version around bias class and operations. For all the China haters, why didn't you come up with this design and quality build? This product and the Doge products are very clever and innovative, all credit to the original designer, regardless of origin.

If one is OK with electronic circuits automatically adjusting the bias, why not just implement a continuous real-time adaptive autobias circuit like some other tube amps do? PrimaLuna, Mystere, and VAC are well known tube amp companies that offer some tube amps with such adaptive autobias circuits. The Galion TS120SE's bias method seems like an unnecessarily complicated mash-up between manual bias adjustment and adaptive autobias. Perhaps one could call it semiautomatic bias adjustment.
To be clear, when I say autobias I am not referring to the cathode bias technique that some manufacturers call auto bias or self bias. As detailed below, there are drawbacks to the cathode bias technique which makes manual bias adjustment as well as real-time adaptive autobias adjustment preferable to cathode bias.
The most common cathode bias implementation passes the cathode current through a resistor connected between the cathode and the negative side of the plate voltage supply. The cathode current through this resistor causes the desired voltage drop across the resistor and places the cathode at a positive dc voltage equal in magnitude to the negative grid bias voltage required. The grid circuit puts the grid at zero volts dc relative to negative side of the plate voltage supply, causing the grid voltage to be negative with respect to the cathode by the required amount. Directly heated cathode circuits connect the cathode bias resistor to the center tap of the filament transformer secondary or to the center tap of a low resistance connected across the filament.
PrimaLuna points out that although the cathode bias method works, a large amount of power is wasted as heat generated by the current through the resistor, which reduces the power that the amp can provide to the speakers. PrimaLuna states that an amp that has 35 watts when you use adjustable bias will typically give you 20 watts with cathode bias. Over 33% of the amp’s power goes up in heat through a huge resistor.
Real-time adaptive autobiasing uses sensors to constantly monitor the performance of each power tube. That data is supplied to active circuitry that adapts instantly and continuously to keep the tube within its linear operating tolerances, regardless of the age or condition of the tube. With real-time adaptive autobiasing there is no power sucking, heat generating resistor in the cathode current circuit.
The real-time adaptive autobiasing technique has been around for about two decades. PrimaLuna first incorporated it into some of its products in 2003.

Just another amp for a mere $4k. Not sure what these guys did make all their money but don't know many middle class people who can just drop 3-10k on equipment all the time

This amp has nothing on primaluna amps/preamps. They auto bias almost any tube you put in it and you don’t have to do anything! They’ll also tell you if a tube is bad or not.

This appears to be basically a slightly tweaked Doge 10 with a fancier French name for 2x the price. Pass.

I actually feel like this might be a fair criticism without knowing what the tweaks are and what all has been upgraded. I’ll figure it all out and report back.

@@Newrecordday2013 FWIW, according to Doge, the Doge 10 is 95% identical to the Galion. My guess is some capacitors got upgraded based on what’s highlighted on the Galion product page of their website. Worth the price differential? Not to me.
