    I have been a woodturner for over twenty years And have had the privilege of meeting and watching many world famous turners. You are absolutely one of the best in both your turning skills and how you present your wood turning videos. Thank you for sharing your skills with the rest of us.

    My biggest gripe on CZcams is the click bait titles. 99% of the time they're downright bullshit! So when I saw your title I had to click on it. A truer statement would be hard to find. It is this fact alone that drew me to turning as a primary wood working skill. I live in South Florida USA were tropical's grow in our yards. I don't buy wood. There's always tree trimmings waiting to be picked up.
    Watching you bring that off-cut to life brought a smile to my face! It is a beautiful form . Oh, before I forget... Thank you for sparing me the pain of epoxy pours and polyurethane finishes! In my mind they only impart a plastic look and feel to the otherwise natural beauty of wood.

      Indeed I'm not at all fan of epoxy or anything like that, just don't find a need or better said point as wooden bowl is natural and then adding layers of plastic just make no sense to me....
      Thank you for watching

    Wow, I never would have thought that a "scrap" that size would yield that kind of plate. That turned out very nicely, the plate looks awesome. This is why so many of us hesitate to throw any pieces of wood away. Would be really interested in your assessment of the inner design as you use that plate; I'm still processing that in my mind 😀. Regarding finish: my brother-in-law's wife has given me something called "spoon butter", it is a mixture of avocado oil mixed with melted beeswax. A few applications of this to a wooden object really seems to stand up to a number of washings and re-application every once in a while (like on the order of a year or so) seems to keep water beading off the utensil when washing. Not sure what would happen if one were to vigorously scrub an item treated with this, but in normal use, it seems pretty robust.

      @tomislavtomasicwoodturning Před 7 měsíci +1

      Thank you very much, I do admit the inside is busy but I like that.... I haven't used it yet but soon😉
      That finish sounds great, try it and use the plate every day for one meal and washing.... In my expirience,most of the finishes scrub of , even hardwax oils unless you use multiple coats, but that can bring the price up as hardwax oils are expensive.... But even those with scrub and soup don't last long....I use everyday my wooden dishes and they don't have any finish on it....looks awsome with stains and discoloration.... And with washing they get smother and smother....
      Test it , but it doesn't sound like good product

    Lovely Plate Tomi, amazing how what would normally be considered trash can turn out so beautiful. Thanks for sharing the tip of putting a burr on the scraper, I usually just use a hone like you used to clean the tool burr off, will have to try your screwdriver trick and see the difference.

    I was wondering about the finish. I thought you said you are applying a Tung oil. Is it thinned down with mineral spirits? Also, I noticed you rub on what I assume is beeswax immediately. I wasn't aware that would work. Shouldn't the Tung oil dry first? Oh, and I am your newest subscriber! Nice work.

    What do you accomplished with a Scotch Brite that you can't accomplish with finer grits of sandpaper? Ive learned much from you...many thanks

    • @tomislavtomasicwoodturning
      @tomislavtomasicwoodturning Před 7 měsíci

      Thank you for comment and support.... I'm still playing around with scotch bride pad, but Insted of using higher grits I sand let say to 340 and then 400 grit SBP and the surface is less scratchy and a bit shinier, not by much but enough for me....
      Similar effect is done with hand full of shavings....

    • @philhewitt4757
      @philhewitt4757 Před 7 měsíci +1

      I find that the SBP as a final grade seems to take the dust off the surface, which is useful before finishing.

    Another nice piece! Just curious. With those shot glasses - do you finish them or just sand? Coincidentally, I'm working on a decorative set of "bar ware" like a Martini glass, brandy snifter, highball, whiskey, shot, etc., all placed on a purple heart platter I turned a while back. I thought about making a real shot 'glass' for myself, but couldn't decide what to do about a finish for it. Thanks!

      I finish them as well with linseed oil and wax mix....there is a year old video on these but I'll do new one as well 😀
      I don't put on like epoxy or anything like that as I find nice natural finish to be plenty enough and with time it gets nice patina, especially if in constant use😉
