Watch how Mt. Fuji blends in with nature and men with Time-lapse.
Mount Fuji (3776 m) is the highest peak in Japan. It is treasured as a sacred mountain where the gods reside. Often shrouded in clouds and mist, its visibility is always hard to predict. Since Mt. Fuji was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2013, it had become increasingly popular as a tourist and hiking destination.
In fact, Mt. Fuji is only the modern version of the volcanoes in Japan. Compared with Mt. Ogasawara and Mt. Hakone, which formed hundreds of thousands of years ago.
Actually, the Mt. Fuji we see today is also called "New Fuji" as there used to be two coexisting Mt. Fuji between 17,000 and 3,500 years ago until the "Old Fuji" completely collapsed and dismantled around 2,900 years ago.
Since the Heian period, Mt. Fuji had erupted continuously. The Zhenkan Great Eruption (864-866) and the Hoei Eruption (1707) caused much devastation and loss of lives. People took pilgrimages to Mt. Fuji to show their faith and belief in nature.
