    In regard to cleaning: it is advisable to dismantle the Aerocat every week, and to place the 4 parts in a container with lukewarm water with a drop of neutral washing-up. Soak for 15 minutes and then rinse the parts thoroughly, and let them dry. It is important not to a dishcloth or something similar. This can create a static field in the chamber through which the medication adheres to the chamber, and can not / badly be inhaled. Cleaning is important because in the long term the residue of medicines adheres to the walls of the chamber, so that the medicine cannot be taken sufficiently to the cat because the medicine can adhere to the residue.

    That cat was just relaxing no problem. How can I teach my cat to chill out because she HATES her inhaler and fights me and it's awful. :(

      I watched some videos here on training and they said it can take up to two weeks for some cats to get use to using it. They showed just starting off with the mask and getting them use to that to begin with. I think my kitty will need a lot of patience before she will let me use it on her.

    Thank you for the video! I just purchased one of these for my cat and this was a very helpful demonstration.

    This video is by far the most helpful of all that I looked at. I was so scared to try this procedure on my asthmatic cat not knowing if he'd cooperate but I got lucky and it turned out to be no big deal. He did fine and wasn't bothered by the mask or breathing into it. Thank you so much Brynn for this helpful video with all the tips. Very grateful.

      How much did you give him? My prescription says 1 puff every 12 hours

    If the medication is dispensed and the cat doesn't take a breath right away how does the inhalant get from the tube into the cats lungs? I don't get the use of such a huge tube.

      I suspect that one full human dose is too much for a cat. The tube dilutes the medicine. So some medicine is probably wasted.

    My cat just received his but unfortunately he is very afraid of the puffer...he is unwilling to have the mask part of his face...as a result, we have ended up with scratches all over our arms. Is there a way to get him to take it without scaring him? We haven't been able to give his medication properly due to this issue.

      Hi. We recommend starting slowly and making it a positive experience. This can mean giving your cat a chance to get comfortable with the device by letting them sniff and see the chamber before it is used the first time. Wiping a little tuna on the inside of the mask can also help acclimate them. When you go to deliver the medication, in the beginning we often recommend puffing the inhaler into the chamber behind your back first. The sound of the puffer going off can sometimes be startling. The AeroKat* chamber is made of anti-static materials to keep the medication aloft and available so that you have time to subsequently put the mask on the cats face. You can also try swaddling your cat to make them feel more comfortable. The key as noted above is to make it a positive experience with lots of pets, hugs, and treats. Some cats may take a few days to come around so sometimes a little patience and persistence is needed. But, it is worth it to reduce the potential side effects from systemic side effects of oral steroids!

      I started out having to basically manhandle our cat, holding him between my legs, to administer the inhaler. While doing so, however, I would pat him around his head which he usually likes. Afterwards I always give him treats. He calmed down quite a bit over time. Now if I can grab him when he doesn't expect it, he will usually submit to the inhaler without much resistance. It seems that if he suspects I intend to put the inhaler on him he runs away. He seems to hold his breath for a bit before giving in and inhaling, so I usually wait until I think he is about to inhale before I press the spray button. There are some videos that explain better ways to train the cat to voluntarily inhale the medicine, provided you have the patience and time.

    Why fit the mask after the inhaler has been shaken? You didn't show the button being pressed on the inhaler: When do you press the button -before (when it won't freak the cat out, but some vapour will escape) or after?

      Anecdotal, but we do the puffer after the mask is on our cat's face. But every cat will probably be different depending on how nervous they are.

    • @TrudellMedical
      @TrudellMedical Před 5 lety +3

      Sometimes the sound of the inhaler being activated can startle some cats. To prevent startling, the inhaler can be activated into the chamber behind your back and then applied to your cat's face. The AeroKat* chamber is specially designed to keep the medication aloft and available so that this is possible. As your cat becomes more accustomed to the therapy, you can try activating the inhaler after putting the mask on their face.

    Nope. My cat isn’t gonna let this happen. Should I get her really high on cat nip first? She is not having it
