I’ve found it’s best to repot/transfer into leca on the same day when you’re supposed to water. (Or a few days after) the soil comes clean off because it’s already dry, not sticking, and you know it’s safe to water because your plant is already used to the schedule!
The problem is plants that have been in soil aren't used to rooting in water. You can skip all the bullshit about drying the roots and putting it in dry leca and watching the leaves droop by just placing the plant INTO water first for about 2 weeks. Let the plants develop water roots first. Once you see those brand new water roots, you're good to go. It has NEVER failed me yet. Do NOT change out the water when the plant is sitting in water for two weeks because the pant releases a rooting hormone that is in the water which help them root their new water roots. Obviously clean off the roots before you place the plant in water first. I use the hydroponics root starter and mix it with a root drench fertilizer before I put the plant into the water first. It helps them develop the new water roots quicker. Pro Tip: Do not cut off any roots that look like they have root rot because all my rare aroids developed a new root system from the old ones. My biggest mistake was cutting off all the root rot. It took much longer for the plant to form brand new water roots. But they do eventually form new water roots from the old root system. I like to do the transition during the humid summer time in New Jersey. I'll leave the plants outside while they form the new water roots in a clear cup due to the sunlight and humidity helping the plant form new water roots much quicker. If you can't do it outside then invest in an indoor greenhouse with custom lighting.

Just a tip: try gently removing the dirt on fine or small roots with a soft toothbrush. I have been doing that and it works great for the plants like hoyas which have fine roots or ones like my dracaena which had too much soil stuck between the roots closer to the stem.

It almost seems to have a protective coating, because when you take the plant out of the water and you see the white things on the roots, and you submerge back in the water it almost seems like a water bubble goes around it like they don't get saturated. I've tried hydrogen peroxide ,70% alcohol, but they continue to come back .🥴has anyone had this issue? I have no idea what this organism might be😱 I've cleaned everything even with 91% alcohol. Everything around and touching the plants but it continues to come back and I've lost most of my exotic plants to this white substance😭 can anyone advise me? thank you in advance!
Hello, you have amazing videos and you have motivated me to try LECA!!!! this will be my 1st 3 attempts!!! I have looked at endless videos and just want to make sure my plan of action is ok.... I am receiving 3 cuttings: hoya rebecca, hoya kerrii and hoya nummulaeoides... all 3 were rooted in spagnum moss and shipped in moss... once I get them my plan was to 1) check if roots are dry if not wait to dry, 2) put them in dry leca with bare root (no moss) 3)water (with superthrive) but leave no reservoir after 1 -2 days.... [being that they were grown in moss do you recommend I just water for the 1st month without reservoir or can i start a reservoir?]... 4) after I start seeing white roots I will start slowly adding a reservoir with small amount of water.... each time waiting for water in reservoir to completely dry out... 5) after 6-8 weeks I will start to pH and add nutrient to my water 6) HOPEFULLY I did not kill my plants yet!!!....SOUNDS RIGHT??????

But I did see Bebee Plants' video and not watering is really compelling. Quick question for you, do you think it's ok to water during the first month with Superthrive added or do you only treat with Superthrive when you first convert your plants?
I have problem 4, i have my monstera deliciosa super root bound and I can not get out all my dirt of the roots. I hope that she will not have problem with the dirt in future
I personally don’t stress Over the dirt that much because they get root bound so quickly no matter what the situation is and you will be repotting again after this re-pot

Do you have an updated video since Bebe has said she does not like leca and switched away from it? I’m so scared of killing my plants but I hate the fungus gnats and want them gone.
I’m experimenting on that-someone said calatheas hate it-I think pothos would do 100 percent better in this method-all zz plants sansevierias philodendrons aloe euphorbia monstera would be good candidates...even if one waited just 24-48 hours before watering...

@@prettyinplants9580 I did a zebrina in leca a few days ago, the leaves drooped and curled ,two days of that, cut the leaves off and hoped for the best,roots are in excellent condition...and now NEW GROWTH, sprouted a new leaf,and seeing new growth come in..as long as the roots are healthy, new growth should appear, Also, did my White Fusshion, bouncned back very well with new leaves aready coming in,only been a week for that plant! restored my faith in leca!!!
Yes-the only thing about perlite is that it is whisper light. One of the things I use the pumice for is stabilizing the plant and perlite is not good for that

Pretty In Plants just so I’m clear you still recommend letting the roots dry out for plants like maranta and stromanthe even though I think you did a conversion for stromanthe this way and it seems to not take well from looking at your comments on the results in that video. For plants that love moisture shouldn’t they be able to handle leca that is moist instead of dry leca?
if I had to put a number on it I would say 90 to 95% of my plants I allow to completely dry out between waterings-there are a handful of plants that don’t do as well when you do this however my rattlesnake calathea is totally OK with me doing this and has gotten tons of new growth and to me it’s a relative of the stromanthe-But at the end of the day it’s not an exact science and you and your plants will have to get to know one another and figure out what’s best for your plant

Yay for you! I just use at the beginning and then, unless I’m really concerned, I just use plain water

You mentioned let the plant dry out in between watering, does that mean only water when it shows sign of dehydration or let it dry for a day or two?
I dry for a day or two...the roots are still wet up in the LECA

I just add volcanite and mix in-the roots love it-any type of aggregate from volcano will be full of natural minerals
