  • What an absolute honour it was to break the fast with a Malaysian family in their own home in Kuala Lumpur. Not only this but we got to learn more about Ramadan and what it means for Malaysians to fast for one whole month.
    Food we tried from the TTDI Ramadan Bazaar
    - Ikan Bakar
    - Ayam Percik
    - Roti Jala
    - Mangosteen
    - Nasi Dagang
    - Samosas
    - Apam Beras

    From my experiences, in Malaysia, the Malays are friendly people and tolerant plus helpful compared to others. They are always welcome. Their food are tasty full variety of ingredients. Pandan leaves, lemongrass, sambal, coconut milk, shrimp paste (belacan), etc etc.. not only in Malaysia, you also can find this main ingredients around the neighbours country of the Malay Archipelago too.

    Breaking the fast with the dates is not just being symbolic that Prophet Muhammad ate that and we follow. It is because, whatever he chooses to do, eat dates, drink milk, and other stuff, has so much beneficial to humans. 1 single dates could give you enough nutrient and fiber and energy for the whole day. If you combine milk and dates, it become a miracle. It helps prevent dehydration and good for the intestines and stomach.

    This is why I like your channel:
    1. The video production is fantabulous. :-D Great editing and so informational. Professional looking but not flashy - there's substance and I never feel bored. You guys have a good instinct for what viewers want to see.
    2. Your videos are usually longer than just a few minutes. I prefer this format.
    3. Both of you are positive and cheerful. You could probably get hit by a Hop-on-Hop-off bus and still look at the bright side.
    4. You visit so many place of interest and do interest things. Nb: I was going to suggest having dinner or something with a local family but you already have done it!
    5. You're sincere about learning about the countries you visit.
    6. You're sincere about educating your viewers as well as being entertaining. Some vloggers don't bother to do much research. As a result, their videos feel kind of narcissistic.
    7. You're not afraid to show that you're on a learning curve when traveling and you share the mistakes you make. This provides a more realistic feel to your videos and enhances the feeling of discovery. You're also well-grounded and willing to listen and learn from others such as locals and your viewers.
    I love Malaysia and this is my go to channel for videos on this beautiful country. I'm happy you've spent several months there so far. How much longer do you plan to be there?

    Just want to clarify something, not sure Uncle Kamal explained to you.
    Muslims fast during Ramadhan, which is one of 12 months of Islamic calendar. Unlike the Gregorian calendar ( based on earth orbiting* around the sun), Islamic calendar is based on the moon orbiting* around the earth. One Islamic year has around 10-11 days fewer compare to Gregorian calendar. Due to this, every Gregorian calendar year, Ramadhan will not occur at the same date or month of Gregorian year.
    Since Malaysia located so close to the equator, the duration of a day (in hours) pretty much the same through out the year (around 14 hours). However this rule does not apply to other parts of the world that located further and further away from the equator. For example, at the moment, it is summer in the U.K, and Muslims in the U.K have to fast for 17 hours! It won't be fair for Muslims in Europe if each time Ramadhan happened, it always in the summer. However places in the southern hemisphere at this time of year are having their winter. The day is shorter, ie Muslims could be fasting for 3 to 5 hours, and this also would not be fair as well. Therefore, in Islamic perspective, to have Muslims fasting according to Islamic calendar, is the fairest way to ensure they are not fasting according to seasons (winter, spring, summer and autumn). I am just glad I am fasting in Malaysia, because as far that I know of, Muslims in Iceland are fasting for 20 hours :D
    Glad you enjoy your experience with Diyana's and Nenny's family. Looking forward to see your next adventure in Malaysia!
    Edit: Orbiting around the sun/earth not rotating around the sun/earth

    12:08 i don’t think he answered your question, so here is my answer.
    Ramadan doesn’t always fall in the month of june. We muslims have our very own calendar (takwim hijrah/kalendar hijrah). Each year has 12 months with 29 or 30 days, which totals to 254/255 days in a year. We also have leap year. Right now, we are in the year 1439 Hijrah.
    In 2000, we even fasted and celebrated our Hari Raya Aidilfitri twice! We started fasting on Dec 1999 until 7 Jan 2000 and Celebrated Raya on 8 Jan. Then, ramadan came again on 27 Nov until 26 Dec 2000, and celebrated Raya on 27 Dec 2000. I think its going to happen again in 2030-ish.

Some are not good as the sauce is either too sweet or diluted, or the meat is not marinated properly. Malaysia is the only place to eat good satay. Your friend will be able to recommend a good place. I am hoping to be in KL some time later this year and hope you guys are still around in KL. It would be nice to meet up in person. Have a blessed day.

    Dagang means Trade, Pengembara means Traveler

    • @ImagineLovher
      @ImagineLovher Před 6 lety +8

      ManOnTheRun In Kelantan dialect it can mean Traveler. Orang Dagang or Pedagang “Pedage”

    • @mizitige
      @mizitige Před 6 lety +8

      What i know, in terengganu n kelatan dialek dagang mean pengembara..n normal malaysia kamus dagang is mean trade..But if u come to terengganu they said orang dagang..that mean traveller people

    • @ImagineLovher
      @ImagineLovher Před 6 lety +1

      ManOnTheRun Although Dagang literally means Trade, but looking at the old context, traders do travel, traders came from all different continents which made them travelers. Now the history of “Nasi Dagang”, Nasi Dagang was what the travelers/traders or fishermen brought with them to go out on the sea.

      Dagang also means "outsider" depends on context in old language (but still rarely used nowadays), for example "saya orang dagang" means "I am an outsider"

    What a feast! I love seeing you guys eating Malaysian food! What is more exciting is seeing Justina eat with her hands! That was really cute! As a Filipino, the food tastes somewhat better when you eat with your hands. Love you guys. Take care.

    Actually dagang means trade or commerce. Traveler is pengembara or pelancong, depending on which type of traveler you are. But i think, long2 time ago, some traveler doing some trading so people called them dagang or pedagang.

      @gundam4596 Před 6 lety +5

      but it is true that "dagang" meaning is more suitable as traveler. this is because in ancient time that rice is for the man who travel far. normally wife or mother will wrap the rice in banana leaf and it can last up for long hours. thats how it got its name.

      Yes both of you are true, Pierz Zain explained the modern definition of dagang, and Gun Dam gave the classic meaning of dagang. As is "orang dagang" in P. Ramlee movies means "travellers".

      Do u remember there's a Malay saying (pantun)..kajang pak malau kajang berlipat, kajang saya mengkuang layu, dagang pak malau dagang bertempat, dagang saya menumpang lalu..the dagang in this pantun mean travelers..the same as in the case of nasi dagang.
